Comfortable, quaint, and cute are words often used to describe this tropical A-frame located on the Mississippi Sound. A wrap around deck shaded by palm trees leads down to the water and the 36' fishing pier. Fish or crab from the pier, soak up rays on the deck, or watch the tug and barge traffic pass by on the Inter-coastal Waterway. 10 minute walk to the beach. WiFi provided.
Queen bed in the downstairs master, 2 full beds in one bedroom and a daybed with a 'pop-up' trundle in the other upstairs bedroom sleep 8 people comfortably.

Loni purchased this chalet in 2001
'Captains Quarters' was purchased as my primary residence in 2001 and was not rented out until recently. I settled on Dauphin Island because it is the most 'laid back', relaxing place I have ever found. The fishing is fantastic, the beaches are beautiful, and the Sunsets are phenomenal!
Sunsets, sunsets, sunsets!!! Fishing and crabbing off the 36' pier. Swimming or shelling a 10 minute walk on the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico. Scooter or jet ski rentals minutes away. Bike trails, best birding in the Southeast, Audubon Park, historic Fort Gains, Dauphin Island Sea Lab and Estuarium. The best offshore Red Snapper and sports fishing in the Gulf and inshore speckled trout, white trout, flounder, crabbing and red fishing on the private pier. Mobile Bay Ferry available for day trips to Fort Morgan or Gulf Shores. The casinos of Biloxi are 1 hour away and New Orleans a short 2.5 hours away.
7 days of heaven!! Layout is perfect for 4-6 people. Owners response fast and hospitable. Rode our bikes around the island and there was nothing that compared to "Captains Quarters"! The only reason to leave is to visit the great market (they rent bikes and have just about everything you may need....or want!!) or grab a bite at the local joints.
We had a great getaway at the Captains Quarters, quiet and peaceful and pet friendly. Be prepared to fix breakfast at home in the off season, except for the Lighthouse Bakery. Centrally located on the Island. Then there is the pier, yes it's wonderful to fish from and has lovely sunset views, but the most wonderful sunset is from the Gulf side of the Island.
We enjoyed every minute of our visit. If you want to take a step back to the "Old feel of a Bay side house" this is the place, yet you will have easy Beach access. Good communication with the owner, Lori is easy to work with, refund on the deposit was within 1 week after we left. Overall a great place to stay. Loved the resident pet who hung out on the pier daily, a big beautiful Blue Herron, that bird was something else.
We stayed at this lovely home for 8 wonderfully comfortable & quiet nights. The pictures are very accurate and we loved the decor! We heard no traffic, no noises except the sounds of nature & the downstairs bed is very comfy! Loni has made sure that there are plenty of towels - even beach towels, as well as all the cooking supplies one would need. The house was clean & welcoming. The dock to the water was used by us every night, where we watched the sunsets. We wished we could have stayed longer, but "real life" called us back home. Loni was very easy to work with & I received my deposit back very quickly. We will definitely be returning in the future & recommend Captain's Quarters to all of our friends! Thank you Loni for helping to make our vacation a wonderful and relaxing one!!
We enjoyed our stayed at the Captains Quarters! The pier is an excellent place to watch spectacular sunsets and unwind. Our kids enjoyed fishing off the pier and catching crabs. The house suited our needs perfectly and we would recommend to others. The owners made the rental process so easy and were very accommodating! So many great things to do on Dauphin Island...it has quickly become a family fav for us! We also highly recommend taking an inland fishing excursion on the Duke-Call the Marina to book it! We had a blast and caught plenty of fish!
We had a fantastic time at Captain's Quarters on Dauphin Island. The past couple of summers we have taken beach vacations and the kids (12 and 10) enjoyed fishing, so this year we chose a destination where we could primarily enjoy fishing and still get some beach time. Captain Quarters was perfect for that! It has a nice private pier where we spent a lot of our time from the moment the kids woke up, and late into the night fishing, fishing, fishing. My 12 year old son caught a small shark!! Highlight of the week. We also love the beach, and the Gulf side was only about a 5 minute walk away. Perfect! Be sure to eat at Barnacle Bill's, the Lighthouse, and grab some fresh seafood to cook at Spinners! It was very laid back and relaxing and Loni was super easy to get ahold of and very easy to deal with. The house was very comfortable and had everything we could have possibly needed. We will most certainly be back!
The Captain's Quarters is a great place to stay. It is a good vacation spot for relaxing and for pier fishing. It is in close proximity to the water and has a very nice pier. The water is plenty deep to fish, even during low tide. We caught an abundance and variety of fish. I had never been in an A-frame before and was pleasantly surprised how much space it had. It was nicely decorated and the kitchen was well stocked with utensils. The owner replied quickly to any texts I sent. I would highly recommend staying at the Captain's Quarters and I plan to return.
