CHARMING SHOT-GUN STYLE ROW HOUSE NEAR DOWNTOWN LEXINGTON

Lexington House Rental Photos and Description

1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 4

The Space

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE LISTING DETAILS, HOUSE RULES, AND CANCELLATION POLICY BEFORE BOOKING!

The home is small but charming at only 728 square feet. Referred to as a “shot-gun” house due to its long and narrow build, this simple architectural structure was brought to America by Haitian refugees in the early 19th century.

Although technically, it is a one bedroom house, there is a full-size solid wood futon with a Sealy posture-pedic mattress that sleeps very comfortably located in the back room. The bedroom has a king-size bed. This house can sleep between 2 to 4 people comfortably by way of the bed and futon. Both the bed and futon mattresses, box springs, and sleeping pillows are encapsulated by protective cases for personal hygiene and safety. All bed linens, including comforters, are laundered after each guest visit.

Children are welcome, but please note that the only childproofing in the home is outlet covers. There are no cabinet locks.

The kitchen has all the modern amenities needed to cook and clean up, such as a refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, and a Keurig coffee maker. There are place settings and flatware for up to six, all the necessary pots, pans, and utensils needed for cooking, along with simple spices and oils as well. I provide one Keurig coffee cup per guest per morning.

The home also offers free, secure wireless internet and a Roku streaming box complete with a subscription to Netflix and HuluPlus, in addition to hundreds of free Roku channels. There is no cable.

This is a Pet Free house designed specifically for guest use so there are NO personal belongings at this home meaning you can feel free to stretch out and make it your own.

The bathroom has a spacious standing shower, but no tub. It is fully stocked with fresh linens, soaps, shampoo, toothpaste, Q-tips, cotton balls, toilet paper, and a basic hair dryer.

It has everything you need to enjoy your stay in Lexington. It is less than 2 miles from most downtown attractions and new local breweries so going out and touring the city is easy, but the large double lot backyard allows for relaxing evenings at home.

Guest Access

Guests will have access to the entire house and yard. There is off street parking in the driveway alongside the house, but no parking garage.

Interaction with Guests

My interaction with guests will be little to none, unless requested. However, I live nearby and am always accessible by phone, if needed. There is a key-less entry system and a code to access the home will be given upon confirmation of reservation so guests may check in any time after 3 pm on the day of arrival.

The Neighborhood

Row house neighborhoods are not generally high income areas. Although I am comfortable in the neighborhood, it is blue collar, a bit rough around the edges, and can be intimidating to those more accustomed to the finer things in life. So, if you're counting on white picked fences and polo shirts, look elsewhere. However, things are changing with the addition of the new Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) replacing the old, historic Eastern State Mental Hospital (2nd oldest insane asylum in the USA). As well, there are at least three of Lexington's new artisan breweries within a mile of the house; Blue Stallion, West Sixth, and Town Branch Distillery. This home is a great value considering its amenities and proximity to downtown, campus, Keeneland, the Horse Park, and the new Distillery district.

Getting around

LexTran is the public transit system of Lexington. There is a covered bus stop two blocks down the street from the house. A bus leaves every 30 minutes from this location to the transit center located downtown. Visit LexTran for details.

Per MapQuest, the home is located the following distances from certain Lexington area attractions:

University of Kentucky Student Center 1.8 miles

Bluegrass Lexington Airport 7 miles

Rupp Arena / Heritage Hall 1.4 miles

Kentucky Horsepark 10.6 miles

Keeneland 7 miles

Center of Downtown Nightlife 1.8 miles

I-64 / I-75 Split 11 miles

My name is Jill and I live on the outskirts of Lexington with my husband, Chad, our five dogs, two cats, and a plethora of chickens, ducks, and guineas. I enjoy traveling, learning languages, collecting mid century blonde Heywood Wakefield furniture, Zumba, yoga, and playing Jeopardy with my husband.

I was born and raised in Trapp, Kentucky but moved to Lexington in 2003. I graduated from Eastern Kentucky University and am a self-employed property manager and vintage shop owner.

I strive to make sure the little home I offer for rent is clean and comfortable, and that your stay there is a pleasant one.

Jill Walker purchased this house in 2013

My husband and I live on the outskirts of Lexington in horse farm country. We love living in the country but also enjoy the attractions of downtown. I've always loved small houses, particularly favoring bungalows, cottages, and row houses because of their homey feel and cozy charm. We bought this little row house as our 'city home' for times when a downtown event may keep us out late. I decided to offer it up as short term vacation rental as a way for it to get more use and for others to enjoy it as well.

PRETTY LITTLE HOUSE

  • 3 of 5
Very pretty little house in blue collar neighbourhood close to centre. Very comfortable, lounge very dark even with all the lights on. Nice bedroom, bathroom and kitchen area. Patio in back garden needs attention as dangerous at moment with broken bricks. Everything was very clean and owner left 'treats' in kitchen which was a nice touch. Would recommend it to friends subject to patio being fixed,

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review. We are aware of the brick patio needing repair and apologize for its appearance. The brick really wasn't broken like it is now until after the terrible winter we had here in Kentucky this past season. We had our last snow the first week in April, so we hope to have the brick repaired now that the getting weather is warmer.

LOVELY VISIT

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I stopped at Jill's spot on our way to North Carolina. We got in late and were exhausted. Imagine our pleasure at finding a beautifully appointed, thoughtfully-furnished oasis in the midst of our travels.

The house has wonderful character and fascinating historical significance. Having gone to graduate school in Lexington, I was aware of the neighborhood and was delighted to discover the improvements and work that has gone into the area since I was there. Jill has created a very secure environment and I would have no qualms about staying there with my children.

The interior of the house is decorated with an eclectic mix of vintage, antiques and modern decor, exactly as pictured. She has a charming, uncluttered style that is at once warm and inviting and also airy and calm. The bed was wonderfully comfortable with lovely high thread count sheets and perfect pillows. We dropped off to sleep immediately.

We awoke to hot showers with a great massage feature. The husband cooked delicious bacon and eggs on the lovely cookware provided. And I had cup after cup of coffee from the Keurig. After a short drive through the gorgeous Lexington Cemetery and the fascinating African Cemetery No. 2, both of which are just a short drive from the house, we were on our way.

In short, our stay was perfect. And I'm already planning our next trip. Thank you, Jill, for a lovely experience.
