About Carol Deyong

My husband and I built our dream house on this fantastic view property. For 9 years we have lived to find time to go be there as it is not our primary residence. This is the first time we have listed it to be rented.

Carol Deyong purchased this house in 2002

Why Carol Deyong chose Salt Spring Island

When I visited Salt Spring Island 10 years ago I met someone who said, 'there is healing properties in the soil on this magical island' . At the time I needed healing and this resonated with me. I began visiting Saltspring after that every chance I could. Ultimately my husband and I decided we had to build our dream house there.

What makes this house unique

In the summer nature calls to you from every spot. For instance, we have placed a shower stall outside on the deck in a very private spot so it seems like you are showering while in the woods.

In the winter the couches in front of the wood burning fireplace beckon you to please come, curl up and read a book.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you and glad you had a great week. Did you know that there is a wifi connection though it is not wireless? It is beside the dining table and the cord is yellow.

Again your week sounds like a wonderful Saltspring experience.

Girl's Weekend

Girl's Weekend
  • 5 of 5
There are not words to describe the beauty of this property. My friends and I stayed here for a weekend at the beginning of October 2013. This is our ninth annual girl's weekend but the first at this property. I can honestly say it was the loveliest place we have ever stayed. From the first contact with the owner through to the end of our stay everything was exceptional. The caretaker was waiting for us when we arrived and walked us through the spacious house and then we were on our own to enjoy the house and the amazing views. We were blessed with wonderful weather and enjoyed hours on the deck, taking in the scenery. We took in the Saturday market and shopping in Ganges which was the highlight of the trip. The owner was incredibly helpful in answering questions and returned my damage deposit within a handful of days. For anyone looking to rent this property be advised that the photos don't do it justice -- the house and views surpass anything that is shown on this site. There is no one thing I would have changed. Thanks for the great weekend!

Gorgeous home and million-dollar view!!

  • 5 of 5
Our family stayed at this property for a week in August, 2013 and from the moment we arrived at the house we were impressed. This property is about a 10 minute drive up a beautiful road, from the main townsite of Ganges. Ganges is the main hub of Saltspring Island. We arrived off the ferry at about 2 pm, and stopped to take in the fantastic Saltspring market, prior to driving up the hill. The home is incredibly spacious with many rooms and corners for reading a good book. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need to cook meals. A bbq is provided which we used as well. The view from the balcony is breaktaking. You can see for miles; the house overlooks other Gulf Islands and a beautiful view of Mt. Baker is in the background....the mornings are absolutely stunning; we woke up every morning at 5:30'ish to take in the magnificent sunrise. This house will in no way disappoint you. We visited the three wineries on the island, along with the cheese farms. We spent some time on Beddis Beach and at Vesuvius Beach, which is where we discovered that people swim because the water is warm. We drove around the entire island and stopped at various places along the way....the island is dotted with artists' shoppes everywhere you go....many homes have on the edge of the property where you drive by, vegetables, fruit, and crafts for sale on an honor system where you drop money into a box after you choose what you want to purchase. We loved Fulford Harbor and its great little shops, stores, cafes and restaurant. It's a beautiful harbor....we also hiked in around that area. Ganges has everything you want by way of restaurants, cafes, shops, etc. Treehouse Cafe and Restaurant was amazing for us...we loved their food....Barb's Buns was another great spot we found for coffee, baking and lunch. We hired Lorenda Sailing Expedition to do a three-hour sailing trip, which we loved. We also went on Saltspring Island Adventures with a kayak guide and did a three-hour kayak to chocolate beach which was an absolute highlight. We stopped to check out the starfish and spotted seals along the way. We found we did need to prepare ourselves to take drinks and food back to the house as it is roughly a 20-25 minute drive there and back to Ganges. We just picked up items while we were out and about during the day so if we wanted to stay in at night, we weren't short of anything. The only thing that would have been nice is to have WiFi in the house. Loved it!!

Magnificant 180 degree views, Private & Peaceful

Magnificant 180 degree views, Private & Peaceful

Just a wonderful house with alot of TLC. The views from the deck will take your breath away! This house was immaculate, beautifully designed & perfectly situated. Wildlife was amazing, from the deer, eagles, turkey vultures, grouse, pheasants etc. Amazing library and huge living room with fireplace to sit & read or just relax. The views from all the great sized bedrooms were spectacular. This house had a very peaceful vibration & you felt completely at home as soon as you walked through the front door. The caretaker was top notch, informative, always accessible & willing to help in any way if needed. Ganges village was just down the road with shopping, great restaurants & a wonderful Saturday market with crafts, jewellery, clothing, along with organically grown products, cheeses etc. Highly recommended for the perfect vacation & getaway!!

The view! The peace! The quiet! The beauty!

The view. The view. The view!! It is simply breathtaking -- and from so many places in this beautiful, well-maintained, well-designed home. We felt at peace on our vacation here. The quiet was lovely. The eagles & turkey vultures amazing to watch, riding the air. We cooked many meals in the lovely, comfortable kitchen. And the house has so many places to sit & enjoy -- from the lovely, farm-house kitchen table to the island to the wrap-around deck to the cozy window-well seats in the living room & upstairs bedrooms. The master bath is peaceful & looks out onto a grove of trees. The owners have a terrific library - I felt a bit like I was in a small library/bookstore & loved looking through art, architecture, education, and other titles. Nice seclusion & peace.

was like being on Mount Olympus

This large home offers breathtaking panoramic views from one of the highest points on the island. Staying here provides the feeling you are alone, yet you are really close to the main shopping and art areas. The house provides comfort for all in large spacious rooms and gets its warmth from a large fireplace.

The pictures do not do the place justice...and quality of the amenities are excellent. The wrap around decks are great for letting the days pass by and the french inspired decor makes it easy to spend the nights inside. Stargazing at night is good as well, as there are no lights anywhere nearby.

One of the best places on the island for sure.

Magnificent Unique Setting !

  • 5 of 5
I have never experienced such a magnificent place. The view is literally a panorama which one moment shows striking sunrise to gulf island serenity to the dramatic snowy peak of Mt Baker. It is impossible to describe this view fully and it needs to be experienced.
The house is lovely, very comfortable and beautifully designed. The bath is gorgeous. As you soak you feel as if you are in the forest. The owner is wonderful and the caretaker is a helpful gem.
And all this on an extremely private, quiet, serene acreage.
Amazing. I highly recommend staying, just to experience the magic of it.

several yoga studios, local art studios tours, winery, cheese farms, organic farms, massage therapy, good hiking trails, grocery stores, restaurants, Sat. market in the summer. There is enough going on on Saltspring that you can choose to explore the small village shops or you can decide that you want to retreat and have some solitude and privacy. Either is possible. The house is on 9 very quiet acres.
