The Nest

Our calendar is updated in real-time & our nightly rates are accurately displayed. Simply enter your desired dates and click 'Book Now!'

Tucked away on 2.6 acres of woodlands like The Nest that it is, this cozy, traditional home makes a wonderful base for your Vermont adventures. Whether you're planning to hike the surrounding forest, catch spectacular fall foliage, or ski Mad River Glen and Sugarbush Resort, you'll be greeted back at home each day by a private hot tub and a crackling wood stove.

The setting is quiet and secluded - a place to spend summer mornings on the second-story 360-degree wraparound deck, listening to the sounds of birdsong and the babble of a neighboring brook. Yet you'll also be incredibly close to Mad River Glen (three miles), Mt. Ellen (four miles), and Sugarbush Resort (six miles), with an on-site EV charger making transportation all the easier.

The warmer months are for lingering outdoors - walking your dogs in the mornings, barbecuing in the afternoons, and roasting marshmallows around the firepit before slipping into the hot tub in the evenings. The winter is every bit as inviting, thanks to plush sofas, smart TVs, a woodstove to warm you, and plentiful windows framing the forest dusted in snow.

At night, find three bedrooms paired with three full bathrooms. Bonus features include a washer/dryer, large mudroom, electric vehicle charger, UV air purifier, a propane furnace with forced-air central heating, a MERV13 air filter, three dog runs, and a dog gate at the ground level deck.

Do Not Stay in Winter
There is a lot to like about this property - beautiful development, convenient to both ski areas, views of MRG and Mt. Ellen, dog friendly, each bedroom has a private bath, washer/dryer/dishwasher, hot tub, spacious mud room w lots of storage. Unfortunately the complete lack of care by property management made this a terrible experience, and I would recommend against a winter visit. There were 2 significant storms while we were there - 5 inches and 12+ inches, and at no point in the 5 days was any snow clearing done. There was 1 shovel and empty sand bins. I shoveled the entire driveway and all 3 parking areas the upon arrival, but since the very steep driveway needed to be sanded, only the car w studded snow tires could go down. Despite multiple calls, Vacasa never brought sand or managed snow removal (along with several other smaller issues that should have been resolvable). In the second storm we had to shovel a walking path up the driveway, all around the house for hot tub access, and clear the roadside parking ourselves. The EV car in our party had to park in town, as there was only parking for 2 at the road, and the EV charger was inaccessible without snow removal and sanding. I ended up having to stay an extra day because time lost to shoveling and transportation caused so much delay. One of the resolvable issues was that there was not cookware compatible w the induction stovetop, so assume you have to bring your own pots/pans. Great property, atrocious management.

"Adventure" for sure
The property itself is lovely and as advertised, though as other reviews point out, the hot tub is in an enclosed, insulated hut. This trades views of the scenery (which are great, but not from the hot tub) for privacy (which our group enjoyed). What the listing does not say is that the property is approx 3/4 miles up a 7% grade dirt road that is heavily rutted with mud. We made it work, but Vacasa (the property management company) remained very strict on their 10am departure and were unwilling to grant any flexibility during a spring blizzard. If there hadn't been a break in the storm at about 9:30, I'm sure we would have been much later in getting out and the script the customer service staff was working with did not seem to give any leeway for that eventuality. So very glad we didn't need to put that to the test. The property also didn't have nearly enough towels - 5 bath towels and 1 beach towel for a "six person" stay.

Scenic Ski Stay
The proximity to Sugarbush ski resort, boot-room entryway, hot tub and comfy beds made it a great stay for our family ski trip. There are some rustic details and a hilly dirt road and steep driveway but the gorgeous scenery and the relaxing sounds of the bubbling brook nearby totally made up for that! We appreciated the small details that accommodated our dogs. Kitchen was pretty well supplied* for cooking at home & grill worked great as well. (*note to future guests - please don't put the cast iron pans in the dishwasher! Luckily there was some veg oil available so we could still use them!)

Great location, with a sub-par stay
Honestly, this was one of the most disappointing stays I've had in over 10 years of renting. Location is great, but the house is not worth what's being charged per night by Vacasa. Seems like they did the absolute bare minimum to consider this rentable. On top of being over valued, you can utilize arguably the worst located hot tub you could ask for, which is inside an insulated shed that basically turns into a sauna after 5 minutes. For 5 nights/5 adults we were given 1 trash bag with no spares and 2 dishwasher pods which ran out after 3 days. Do better Vacasa.
