Epic Eire Adventure - Dingle Pennisula

  • 5 of 5

If you ever get a chance to visit the Emerald Isle you must see the Dingle Pennisula. And if you're truly blessed with the "luck of the Irish" you will be fortunate enough to stay at this home. Magnificent views of both land and sea are in every direction. To say this home is comfortable is putting it mildly. The owners are two souls, whose seemingly sole purpose is to make sure that your stay will forever be one not soon forgotten. From Eric's archeological tour of the Dingle Pennisula (an absolute must!) to Leah's mind-blowing level of customer service (how many owners will call you back at 1130P to tell you how to turn on the blasted oven - since the cooks have had a couple - three beers and scotches while reading the manual!) to arranging dinner at one of the most sought after local restaurants complete with cake & candles for your birthday. You start to wonder if this woman is some siren conjured up from the Irish Mist! The word "disappoint" is not included in their vocabulary. Neither will that word ever be used to describe their home. Book early (as in months) or you will miss out on this gem. Plenty of room for all; there were 4 in our party. Space to sneak away for quiet time be it reading a book, reviewing pictures, or a quick siesta all the while listening to the ocean / waves crashing out upon the rocks as well as the occasional braying donkey! Local golf course just down the road - good warm up for taking on Waterville, Ballybunnion and the like - that also serves a wonderfully done traditional Irish Breakfast (newly minted black pudding fans)! Natural land and seascapes during trail hiking leaves you shaking your head saying to yourself 'is this for real?" all the while grinning from ear to ear. You can either head into Dingle for dinner (15-20 min) or stop in Ballyferriter for food and pub crawl, which is less than 5 minutes out the door. Supervalu in Dingle has everything you need if you want to just cook/stay at home and enjoy the sunset. Thanks so much for sharing your home as well as your local knowledge. In doing so you truly made it one of the most memorable experiences for my lads and I on my 50th birthday / golfing tour of Eire. You've afforded all of us an inner perspective of our our Irish heritage and for that words simply cannot express our deepest thanks. Slainte!!

Hope to see you again one of these days!...Fondly, Leah

Vacation of a Lifetime

Our family stayed at this amazing home for a week in August 2013. There were 6 adults, and the space was perfect (Mom and Dad, plus 2 children and their spouses). Leah was the perfect hostesses. She met us at the house when we arrived, and gave us tons of information about the area, and told us all we needed to know about the house. Leah kept in touch, but was not intrusive. We now have a new friend in Ireland! The area around the house is easily walkable and never ceased to amaze us -- beautiful views of the ocean, cliffs and countryside. Ballyferriter is a short drive with good pubs. Dingle is also close and is full of things to do. Wonderful food to eat, a good grocery store for everything one needs for the house. We ate breakfast every day at the house; lunch if we ended up there at noon; always ate dinners out. Played golf at the nearby Dingle Golf Course; did the Blasket Island tour; bought beautiful pottery at Mulcahey Pottery next door; were introduced to Dingle Gin and Vodka, and enjoyed the shopping and pubs in Dingle. It was a wonderful week, made most enjoyable by Leah and her comfortable and beautiful home.

We have only just returned from our stay at this fantastic home last evening but we are so excited to share our thoughts! I won't go in to what amenities are in the house b/c what is listed is whats there and more!
While it can be nerve wracking to book such a big vacation online and "site unseen", so to speak, rest assured this listing is 100% accurate in both written and visual description! It is located in Ballyferriter, about 15-20 minutes outside of Dingle town. We were a group of 6 travelling with 2 young children (6 & 8). We were greeted by Leah upon our arrival and given a tour of the house and some brief instructions about it's operation (water heater, dehumidifiers etc...). She was most informative throughout our stay but never intrusive. She and her daughter made themselves available if and as needed (good thing too b/c we had a lost bank card incident that could have ruined our vacation had it not been for Leah's quick thinking and initiative).
Every room in the house was beautifully appointed with magnificent paintings and antiques yet extremely comfortable. We were so taken with her daughter Honora's work that we purchased one of her prints to take a piece of Clogher home with us!
The highlight of each morning was just sitting and listening to the waves mixed with the sounds of the local cows and sheep...heaven! As far as making a recommendation on what to do...there is SO much just on the Dingle peninsula that it is a vacation in and of itself. We thoroughly enjoyed just driving around and exploring on our own. But as we had 2 children with us Oceanworld was fun for them as well as a 2 hour boat charter for the 6 of us (out of Dingle) during which we glimpsed the iconic Fungi the dolphin AND got to do some fishing; enjoying our catch for dinner that evening! A trip highlight was Leah's recommendation of a 2 hour traditional music concert at the Dingle Music Shop...a must! We thoroughly enjoyed all of the dining recommendations especially Murphy's in Ballyferriter and Fenton's in Dingle.
I could go on and on about this place but you just have to experience it for won't be disappointed!
Leah, Honora and Eric thanks a million for allowing us to share your home. This was our 1st but most certainly not our last trip to Ballyferriter/Dingle area :)

The Perfect Vacation Home

If you travel to Ireland, you must include the Dingle Peninsula as part of your itinerary.
And, if you go to Dingle, you should try your very best to stay at this fantastic home. Not only is the location stunning - views of the water, the islands, the mountains - but the home itself makes you welcome immediately and offers every convenience and comfort that you could possibly want or need.
My wife and I and our three grown sons have traveled throughout North America, the UK, France and Italy and always stay at vacation rental houses. We have been very fortunate to stay in some lovely houses, but nothing that quite compares with this home.
The kitchen, dining room, living areas are all well appointed and accommodated all of us very well. The four bedrooms are all incredibly generous in size and the beds just envelop you. We all slept extremely well after each day in the Dingle countryside.
Our hosts were very helpful in making suggestions of things to do and places to see - Eric even took us on a tour of the area to see historic sites that most tourists would miss. Leah tipped us off about a terrific musical evening at the local music store which was a very special experience.
The ponies on the property just add that extra touch that make you realize that you really are far away in a very magical place.
We are determined to return to Dingle and this fantastic home.
