This is one of two carriage house apartments next door to my home (see 2-bedroom/2 bath listing #368828), in the heart of the Santa Fe historic district. Both apartments are newly renovated inside by one of Santa Fe's leading architects, but retain the charm of an historic building on the outside.

Turn off a quiet neighborhood street into a long drive to off-street parking in front of the apartment, nestled among lovely old trees. This unit is on one level, with a bedroom, bath with large shower, living area, large gourmet kitchen and dining area, looking out to the trees through light-filled windows. Apartment includes its own washer/dryer.

Enjoy the charm of living in a real Santa Fe neighborhood but with the convenience of a few short blocks to the Plaza or Canyon Road art district. Though so close to dozens of shops, galleries and restaurants, this apartment is in a calm and quiet setting.

SORT OF AN AVERAGE PLACE WITH SOME GOOD FEATURES

The very best thing about this rental is its location--an easy walk to the plaza and convenient to everything in Santa Fe. It's quiet and hassle-free and just ever so much nicer than those hotel/motels out on Cerrillos Rd. Also, the apartment was spotlessly clean and reasonably well supplied. And the owner was a pleasure to deal with in making arrangements. Directions were excellent for getting to the apartment and then into it even though we arrived quite late at night and so were on our own.

The very worst thing about this apartment is that--after a three-hour delay in our flight to Albuquerque, meaning that we arrived exhausted at about 2 AM--the heat had been left turned off, and the apartment was freezing cold. And there were no extra blankets or quilts to pile onto the chilly bed in the ultra-cold bedroom. And no one we could call at that hour. So we slept with our clothes on--and the apartment was still cold in the morning. In fact, it took most of a day to get it warmed up to a reasonable temperature.

Also, be aware that this apartment is very small. There is barely room to move around the bed in the bedroom. The furnishings are minimalistic, but adequate. There is wonderful light in the bedroom but the living room is dark, with only the one window. Skylights in the kitchen provide excellent light during the day, but the kitchen is not well lit when the sky is dark.

The bathroom sink drain closing mechanism was broken so that the stopper would not open. How could the cleaning person not have noticed this when cleaning the sink? To the owner's credit, he did get someone out quickly to fix it when we called to complain. But then how could the handyman not have noticed that the drain was also stopped up?

We very much liked the relaxed yet professional and helpful attitude of the owner, and we loved the location. But next time we're in Santa Fe, we'll probably stay somewhere else.

Owner's Response: Wow, I'm so sorry I didn't know about the heat being off until now. A call is always acceptable in an emergency, so I'm sorry the guest didn't let me know at the time. I'm also a little perplexed about the complaint about lighting in the kitchen, as it has overhead recessed, an accent on the wall and under cabinet lighting. This is the first I've seen this mentioned.

I'm grateful for what the guest did like about the apartment, location and service. I'm just sorry it wasn't a perfect stay for them.

SUPER LOCATION IN SANTA FE

We enjoyed our stay in this clean, well furnished rental. It's location, close enough to walk to the Plaza yet tucked away on a side street, was a big plus. While not huge, it is certainly big enough for a couple to be comfortable for a longer stay. The owner was very responsive to our questions.
We found the property to be as advertised. We didn't find the outdoor seating area appealing as it was very small and just off the parking area which is shared with other renters and is a bit tight.
The location makes it easy to get to the Opera as well as hiking trails and restaurants.
Altogether a great choice for a Santa Fe visit.
