A great place to stay in Merida: perfect for a couple.
Walking distance to two markets, and the downtown Centro. Large, deep pool. Merida is a great place to visit, 4th safest city in the world, with ballet and symphony! Chitzen Itza, one of the World's 7 Wonders, forty minutes away w/ tours.
There is an outdoor patio around the pool, with fountain.
Breakfast patio overlooking looks the pool. Privacy & outdoor shower.
Visiting Merida & staying in our home staying prevents having to 'taxi' everywhere. One can walk and see homes, shops, & the hustle and bustle of the city. Bus stop one block away for the town of Progresso and the beach, twenty-five minutes away.
The magic of Merida, Yucatan awaits you.
I fell in love with Merida one night while attending the cultural program on Calle 47 at Calle 60 that occurs every Saturday night. Two days later, one of the first homes I saw, bought our casita with three rooms and added another three rooms plus pool. Moved in 4 months later with my 80 year old Mum and husband, in tow, for Christmas.
The architect, Pedro, kept the new addition true to its history: simple and elegant with open space to spread out. Not too much room that one spends all their time keeping up: just the right amount of space.
Garden is quiet, peaceful and private with outside shower. If warm, one can swim at 2 a.m. and go back to sleep soundly, cooled off for hours.
Chris and Karen purchased this house in 2007
I loved the tile floors, the neighborhood has a little mom and pop shop 3 doors down, a tortilla 'factor' 2 doors down, and in the middle of two markets with churches, parks and WIFI. It's friendly and you will get to know Angel and Anjelica at the Jon Keneday Shop, 3 doors down. They sell everything including homemade green salsa, not too hot, just right!
A 16 minute walk to the Zocolo and center of town, Teatro Contrerras for ballet and symphony and shops along the way.
There is so much to see in al Centro, one doesn't need to venture to the outskirts.
Suggestion: Ek Baalam, Chitzen Itza, Yellow City for tours.
I didn't know it at the time of purchase, but the casita is perfectly located for walking every where! Two blocks from the English library and free week-end talks and house tours, 3 blocks from the LA 68 Cultural Center with foreign films and great gift shop.
Terrific central location in Merida. You can walk to most things from here so no need for a car. Well equiped kitchen and lots of cookbooks in the library if you need to study up on your skills. The property managers, Carlos and Liz are wonderful and quick to help with any questions. Nice small pool and garden in back.
Carlos and staff were fantastic and went out of their way to assist in making our stay comfortable and enjoyable. House in good location to learn your way around Merida. Walking distance to Santa ana, Santiago, Santa Lucia, parque grande, and English library 3 blocks away. Good restaurants nearby. All cooking supplies are available at house with good market at Santiago y Santa Ana for fruit vegetables eggs and honey. We had a great month!
We spent 11 nights here. Carlos the manager meet us at the house to show us the house and he is very attentive and replays to requests quickly. The house lovely large rooms and has large kitchen with assorted spices to use Everything you need to cook is there. it has a big deep pool that cleaned every week. Cleaner comes every Thursday to clean.
They supplied a huge bottle of water.20 liter water is 4 pesos down the street and the guy will bring it to you but the cooler does not get cold.
There is no cable tv but it's has a dozen movies to use. It is noisy in the front living room because you are on Calle 47, but can go to dining room for a quieter place. No internet there only in front living room.
Karen the owner is very good at getting back to you with information about the area and etc.
I would highly recommend adventures mexico agency for cooking classes, I went to the huge market with the tour guide to learn and taste the food, there was only 3 of us which was great then we went to local host house to learn to cook there. Only 59 USD.
Also went to LA 68 restaurant for home and garden tour on Wednesday .which was excellent. Also the food was good there as well, on 68 calle and 53
Kat un restaurant on 49 calle and 66 calle has very good seafood but slow to get it.
On Sunday would highly recommend to go bicycling on the paseo de montejo, road is closed til 1230pm.
The house is close to St Ana which has good juice and food. On Saturday night a lovely show there.
I would recommend the house because it is close to everything and very good price.
