Situated on the edge of The Narrows at the entrance to the Port of St. John’s, a beautiful and unique vacation home located in a former light keeper’s house at Fort Amherst - the site of the first lighthouse in Newfoundland and one of the most photographed sites in the province.

House completely renovated, beautifully and tastefully decorated. Two bedrooms (one with king-size bed and one with twin beds) each with flat screen TVs, pull out sofa bed, two full bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen, BBQ, dishwasher, washer/dryer. Front deck with views of Signal Hill and the harbourfront. Sit back and watch the boats entering and leaving St. John’s Harbour. Enjoy whale watching from our large rear deck overlooking the spectacular Atlantic Ocean. Depending on the season lucky guests will have amazing views of icebergs along the coastline. Entrance point to the East Coast Trail just steps away.

Minimum three-night rental. Off-season rates available.

We are now accepting bookings for the head lightkeeper's house which will open June 15, 2013. This two-story, 3-bedroom/3-bath house has been completely and beatifully restored and renovated. The listing is located at www.vrbo.com/469496.

Current owner, Peter Gill, is the grandson of Leo Power, one of the longest serving light keepers at the Fort Amherst lighthouse.

This property exceeded our expectations.
The location was spectacular being so close to Downtown St. John's yet feeling secluded because of it's proximity to other residences.

We slept 5 people very comfortably, and never felt crowded. We couldn't have asked for a better home away from home.

Peter and Nicole were very attentive when required, made us feel at home and provided excellent advice with regard to attractions and dining.

I would certainly stay here again and would recommend it to friends and relatives.
I don't think you will find a better location or value in all of Newfoundland.

A house at the edge of the earth.

I have been lucky to visit this property many times and had the privilege of spending a night in late November. What a truly beautiful and peaceful place. It was such a treat to watch the ships move through the narrows and the waves beat against Signal Hill. I would recommend it for anyone looking for a unique vacation rental. The house itself was very well appointed, large kitchen, fabulous family room and very generous bedrooms with comfortable beds. I wish I could spend more time there. If you're lucky enough to visit NL in the summer you are also almost guaranteed to see whales playing in the surrounding water. A truly remarkable place and I would (and have) recommended it to many people.

Maison particulièrement agréable, site exceptionnel, propriétaires très sympathiques, séjour extra !
En provenance de Saint-Pierre et Miquelon, nous avions choisi de passer le nouvel an en famille avec 4 enfants dans cet endroit de charme. Nous n'avons pas été déçus, et avons apprécié tous les aspects du séjour. A recommander sans hésiter.
La maison est très bien agencée pour une famille, et très confortable. La vue est à couper le souffle, et c'est un plaisir de voir passer les navires sous les fenêtres. Prévoir une voiture pour se rendre au centre-ville.

Wonderful experience!

This was a great place to experience one of St. John's natural beauties. My kids and family loved it! Very spacious, clean, and well thought out for all your needs. Next time we stay we hope to stay during nicer weather...the road is a little nerve-wracking but that is what you get for a lighthouse in Newfoundland! The horn blew so we got to experience that, a ship came in and the sun came out! Absolutely wonderful!

Wonderful, caring owners, sparkling clean home, unbelievable location...what a trip. We had great weather...well, at least before and after the hurricane, and, all that really did was bring a little excitement! The owners called and offered us different accommodations because of the storm (which we declined) but the locals were going to stick it out...so we did as well. The home offers quick access to St. John's and all that wonderful city has to offer. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.
