2 BEDROOM CABIN NEXT TO YUBA RIVER

Donner Lake Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 1 Queen, 1 Bunk-bed, 2 Beds +, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 7)

Experience an incredible back country escape to a comfortably appointed mountain cabin! Our delightful cabins are next to the Yuba River in the middle of the Tahoe National Forest.

TEDDIE LANE CABIN: When you arrive you'll find a fully appointed vacation retreat with a bunk house that sleeps 3-6 in three comfortable beds with one bathroom, a full kitchen. (There is one bed inside the cabin as well as the three beds in the bunk house.)

A-FRAME: Our delightful A-Frame cabin is next to the Yuba River. When you arrive you'll find a fully appointed vacation retreat that sleeps 7 in five comfortable beds with one bathroom, a full kitchen (except for an oven, we could not bear to remove the 1912 real wood cook stove). The open loft design of the cabin is best suited to a couple or single family use. Washer/Dryer in cabin.

We have two cabins in the same area: Let me know which cabin you would like to rent and I will send you that agreement. They are both the same price. Thank you

The river is stocked with trout, if you would like to fish make sure to purchase a fishing license.

You are just minutes away from the Historic Town of Kingvale and Truckee and about 15 minutes from Donner Lake and magnificent Lake Tahoe. In the summer you can get in all the summer attractions that you want: biking, hiking, river rafting OR you can just cherish the remote serenity of our little haven in the woods, curl up with a good book and let the world beyond drift away.

I love teaching different sports activities, such as: skiing, sailing, water aerobics and I have just became certified as a ballroom dance instructor. Am loving that very much.

Pam Neff or Kathy Potter purchased this cabin in 2003

You will love the feel of nature and just relaxing near the river, or just to get away from everything.

The sound of the rushing Yuba River in the spring. Peaceful place to go and relax. A great time to get away with the family and not worry about the hustle and bustle of everyday living.

NICE CASUAL GETAWAY

  • 4 of 5
This cabin is a good spot for a private weekend in the woods, or for families with the bunkhouse being a great place for the kids. If you're looking for maid service and plush surroundings this is not the place for you...but if you're looking to spend some time with nature without sacrificing all the comforts of home then this is a great alternative to tent camping. The river was low during our visit but we found great swimming holes just a few exits down, and there are plenty of trails to hike. Although you can still hear the freeway a bit, the cabin is set well back in the woods and is fairly private. The large fire pit was great for relaxing even as the night cooled off. The only suggestion I would have is for screens on more of the windows; the home retained a lot of the daytime heat and it was slow to cool down with the small screened windows. But who knows; maybe the squirrels just steal them anyway!

I think that if you're expectations are realistic and you want a comfortable place to escape modern life while still being able to take a shower, this cozy little cabin may be just what you need. It was for us!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your response and glad that you had a nice time. I will suggest screens to the owners and see if we can get some screens up to be able to open up the windows.
Take care and do remember us for next get away.

FAMILY FROM DAVIS

Lovely cabin. Perfect amount of space for our family of four. Try to get here in daylight. Roads are not paved and tough to navigate. House is cozy and property mgr is very helpful. Owner had a nice welcome note and fire ready to light. Great getaway weekend!

We enjoyed our stay very much! We had a problem with hot water but owner's took care of it promptly. We will definitely go back but in the spring when the water is higher in the river. Good times!

VERY CUTE CABIN

  • 4 of 5
This was a cute cabin hidden in the woods, indeed very close to the Yuba River. There is alot of privacy. The main cabin is comfortable, except for the bed. It was really needed to be pointed out that the bed would not accommodate anyone over 6 feet tall. My husband is 5'11, and had to sleep diagonally. Pictures of the bed nook would be helpful to imagine the bed space. The owners were very helpful and friendly in arranging the rental. Our dog loved playing in the river, and it was a safe place to play -- no roads or cars near by.

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying with us and sorry about the size of the bed, we do have another cabin with a queen size bed where I am sure your husband would be much more comfortable. Would love to have you come back and stay again.

QUAINT GETAWAY!

  • 3 of 5
My husband and I were in the area for a wedding and were pleased to find a place to rent for only a few days during the holiday week. The cabin was very clean and had all the essentials--but no air conditioning for the hot summer month of July in the Reno area. Directions to the cabin are not navigable at night--unfortunately, had to call the owner and she had to talk us through.

Owner's Response: We do hope that you enjoyed your stay. It is best to arrive during daylight since the cabin is in the forest and hard to see at night. Hope to have you come stay again.

GREAT LITTLE CABIN BY YUBA RIVER

  • 5 of 5
We had a great time at the cabin with the kids. It's not luxurious but it's clean and comfortable and the detached bunk house is great, especially for the kids. Sure beats tent camping with little kids. Our girls had fun catching and releasing about 8 fingerling trout in the Yuba River right next to the cabin. The water level was very low but there was a pool of water next to the cabin and a bit further down the river. No fish bigger than about 3-4 inches, but it was fun nonetheless. We also made a half day trip out to one of the local lakes for a picnic. The kids and the dog loved playing at the lake.
It was nice to feel like we were in the wilderness but be so close to Truckee and Lake Tahoe. The only restaurant in Kingvale, Donner Pass Pizza, had surprisingly good pizza (who would've thought there would be good pizza in the middle of nowhere?). Also went to Truckee for dinner at Tacos Jalisco, which had better Mexican food than most places in the Bay Area or LA.

A couple things needing attention at the cabin:
1) the shower drain was very slow and water would pool in the shower even with a very short shower
2) the plywood board being used as a landing/step in front of the bunk house entry door was warped and pretty unstable and would seasaw back and forth when you step on one end or the other. I was able to put a piece of wood underneath it to stabilize it a bit but it was only a temporary fix. I kept worrying that one of the kids would take a spill trying to get into or out of the bunk house (which wouldn't have been good since our younger one already has a cast on one arm from an arm fracture that happened a couple weeks before our trip--did I mention I hate monkey bars?). It seemed like an accident waiting to happen so it would be nice if a more stable landing were installed to prevent any falls.

Other than those issues, we really liked the cabin and the location. Would definitely consider staying there again in the future.
