The old grindery 'Obenrüdener Kotten' is located within the protected landscape of the Wupper River in the middle between Cologne and Dusseldorf. Situated right at the river banks and aside the small village Rüden the restored and listed building bears witness to the long tradition of knife industry in Solingen. 300 years ago knifes and scissors have been grinded, polished and assembled in this building. Today the place invites you to relax or be sportive. The Wupper turned in to an attractive canoeing and fishing river. The building - like the small village - is named after the dog of duke Robert von Berg, who saved his life after a hunting accident in 1424 by directing the shoot towards his harried master. From his memorial the faithful dog watches over the valley until today.

Where in former times knifes have been grinded and polished you will now find a unique living surrounding. The iron lattice windows are typical for industrial architecture a hundred years ago. On 130 sqm you will find 2 bedrooms (one with access to terrace and garden), 2 bathrooms (1 with an old-fashioned cast iron tub, the other one with a shower), a large entrance and a small chamber. Upstairs on the gallery there is a large living area with kitchen and dining corner as well as the fireplace and access to the roof deck. Bedclothes and towels are available, also wood for the fireplace. Pets are welcome!

Just step out the door to find your way into the beautiful landscape along the Wupper. High above the river on shady forest tracks or easygoing along its side you will find an amiable landscape full of character. The Obenrüdener Kotten is situated at the interface of small and larger hiking trails, like for example the 'Klingenpfad' all around Solingen, the 'Castel Trail', the 'Landrat Lucas Trail' or the trail 'From Hut to Hut'. Your might like to see the famous 'Wupper Castle', which is only 12 km away, or the 'Müngstener Brücke' (20 km), which is still the highest railway bridge in Germany. There are more opportunities to discover the Bergisches Land, though: Riding a bicycle, on an expedition through the museums of Solingen, enjoying our delicate specialties like 'Bergische Kaffeetafel' or a solid bacon pancake in one of the village inns - just try it!

Notes: Where once knifes have been grinded you will now find a housing space with an unique character. The huge steel muntin windows which are typical for the industrial architecture of 1900, the gallery under the shed roof and the brick-lined walls create a very special loft atmosphere. On the first floor you will find the grand gallery including kitchen, dining corner and lounge corner with fireplace. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a small chamber and a large floorboard are situated downstairs. The flat has also got a solitary garden and a wooden terrace with an enchanting view to the valley. The rooms are provided with wooden floors and the bathrooms are tiled with schist and marble. If you like to relax, try our nostalgic iron bath tub. Towels and bed linen are included. Pets are welcome and feel well in the rural surrounding.

Numerous projects have been realized already and among the famous destinations quite some insider tips wait to be discovered. Band weaving mills, zoo and 'Schwebebahn' in Wuppertal, the bridge park 'Müngstener Brücke' and the historical old town centers of Remscheid-Lennep and Solingen-Gräfrath are attractive places of excursions, but also the large cities along the Rhine river - Cologne, Bonn and Düsseldorf - are not more that 30 km away. ....das Steinhaus ist wirklich wunderschön und mit viel Liebe zum Detail aufgebaut und eingerichtet worden, die Ausstattung ist sehr gut und wir haben gerne das angebotene Kaminholz benutzt! Sauber, gepflegt, kleiner Garten, gerade für uns als Hundebesitzer für abends ideal. Auch von der Lage her wurde nicht zuviel versprochen, wunderschöne Wege direkt an der Wupper entlang beginnen vor der Haustür, was allerdings auch sehr sehr viele Wanderer, Jogger, etc. mit sich bringt und besonders bei schönem Wetter am Wochenende "knubbelt" es sich sehr direkt vor der Tür. Sollte man einen extrem wachsamen Hund dabei haben, ist diese Lage etwas schwieriger, weil ständig Leute am Haus vorbei gehen. Sehr nette Vermieter. Kleiner Wermutstropfen im Idyll: im und direkt am Haus KEIN Handyempfang und das angebotene freie DSL funktionierte nicht immer reibungslos. 2 Restaurants mit guter Küche direkt unmittelbarer Nähe zu Fuss erreichbar.

Nicht zu viel versprochen…

Eigentlich entspricht die Anzeige im Internet nicht der Realität... es ist noch viel besser. Schon die Vorbereitung der Anfahrt mit der hervorragenden Wegbeschreibung durch die Vermieter (ohne wäre es auch nicht ganz einfach zu finden) versprach nur Gutes, und die Unterkunft ist wunderbar, wenn man Ruhe, Erholung und dennoch einen guten Ausgangspunkt für Ausflüge sucht. Tips für die Umgebung und Ausflüge bekommt man vom Vermieter mehr als ausreichend. Auch die großen Rasenflächen neben dem Haus erlauben besonders Kindern vielfältige Möglichkeiten, dem Bewegungsdrang nachzugeben. Mit wenigen Schritten ist man abseits der von Radfahrern und Wanderern hauptsächlich genutzten Wege, und selbst im Sommer schafft man es dann, lange zu gehen, ohne auf andere Menschen zu treffen. Ausflüge nach Köln oder Wuppertal sind auch mit öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln leicht zu bewerkstelligen, und die Natur im Tal der Wupper sowie die anderen alten Kotten bieten dem Interessierten genug Abwechselung. Für das leibliche Wohl sorgen ausreichend Gaststätten in der Umgegend (auf jeden Fall eine bergische Kaffetafel probieren), Honig direkt vom Imker und auch der mit einem netten Spaziergang zu erreichende Hofladen Rusticus, in dem man sich auch gleich für den Rückweg stärken kann, um die dort gekauften leckeren Lebensmittel nicht schon unterwegs zu verzehren.
Alles in allem ein rundum empfehlenswertes Domizil...
es sei denn, macht braucht ständige Animation und weiß sich nicht selbst zu beschäftigen ;-)

Wir waren für ein verlängertes Wochenende dort in October mit unseren 2 Hunden und da gab alles was wir eigentlich brauchten. Das Loft war wirklich perfekt eingerichtet und kann ich es nur empfehlen. Wir haben auch den Hofladen Rustikus besucht als das Wetter schlecht war und das ist auch wirklich empfehlenswert, kann man sehr lecker essen und auch frische Produkte direkt vom Hof kaufen. Wir können kaum erwarten nochmal dahin zu fahren. 100% Ruhe und erholsam!

Wunderschönes, mit sehr viel Liebe und Geschmack restauriertes Ferienhaus. Natürlich, teils rustikal und modern zugleich eingerichtet. 2 wunderschöne moderne Badezimmer...aber auch hier spricht das Online-Inserat eigentlich schon für sich...wir können nur sagen es ist genau wie auf den Bildern. Sehr schön auch die Dachterasse, rustikal aber den ganzen Tag Sonne (wenn sie denn scheint). Alles in allem, es fehlte uns an nichts.
Sehr sehr nette Vermieter, die auch nichts gegen unsere 2 Hunde einzuwenden hatten.
Super Ausgangslage für Wanderungen direkt vom Haus weg. Restaurants sind fußläufig zu erreichen und überall sind Hunde willkommen.
Wer Abends nicht selber kochen möchte so wie wir und wer zudem noch gerne gut isst, dem können wir nur Haus Rüden empfehlen...Super Küche...Nette Bedienung...Super Biergarten und auch von innen sehr schön.
Hoffentlich konnten wir mit dieser Bewertung hilfreich sein.

Eine wunderschöne Ferienwohung auch für längere Aufenthalte. Naturliebhaber und Ruhesuchende werden begeistert sein. Das Einzige was man hier hört sind Vögel und das Rauschen der Wupper. Die Gastgeber sind supernett und haben immer einen Tip parat. Essen kann man wunderbar in dem nahegelegenen Ort. Spaziergänge, auch längere Wanderungen beginnen direkt an der Haustüre.
