Shaconage Lodge (Sha·KON·a·hey) is Cherokee for “Land of Blue Smoke” and the name says it all. From the upper and lower decks you can readily see why the Cherokee came to name the Great Smoky Mountains as Shaconage and the reason why we chose it for our lodge.
We would like to thank you for taking time to explore the possibilities of our 5 bedroom 4.5 bath luxury lodge that sleeps 14 very comfortably. This exquisite cabin includes 4 master suites all with adjoining bathrooms that include private Jacuzzi tubs and showers. Three of the suites have king beds while the fourth suite and 5th bedroom have queen beds. All beds have pillow top mattresses for the most luxurious sleep you can imagine. If you have never slept on a pillow top mattress then you are in for a real treat. The kitchen is fully stocked with cooking and baking utensils as well as a dish washer to simply your life. The lodge is family friendly with different zones for different activities and of course flat screen HDTVs in every room. Our driveway and turnaround area can easily park 8 vehicles so no need to park along a crowded street and walk a long way. The hot tub seating 5 is to die for after a fun filled day.
As you enter our home you will immediately feel engulfed by nature. The expansive walls of glass open up the home to the impressive views of the distant mountains and immediate woodlands. The main floor houses the living room with 50” flat screen High Definition HDTV, year round romantic gas fireplace (we do not restrict its usage to certain times of year as most rentals do - so please enjoy), dining room, kitchen and two king master suites. The leather furniture, comfortable and inviting, mixed with the warmth and charm of yesteryear antique decorations will help you immediately feel like you have arrived home.
The open kitchen allows interaction with the rest of the family during meal preparation. There is an in-door fridge ice maker and filtered water, pots, pans, baking goods, blender, food processor, coffee maker, plastic storage bowls, etc. and of course place settings for 18. We even include spices, aluminum foil and cellophane wrap, tea and starter coffee with filters.
The loft, containing the 5th bedroom is open yet semi-private and has the added benefit of providing the best view in the house all while lying in bed. On a sunny day one can see 50 miles or more across the mountain ranges. The loft also contains a half bath, full size air hockey table, sitting area with queen sofa sleeper and 32” flat screen HDTV. The loft overlooks the main floor and truly provides the most spectacular views around.
The basement contains the other two master suites, one king and one queen. The game room offers another queen size sofa sleeper along with a regulation size pool table, 55” flat screen HDTV, Blue-Ray DVD player and Wii game with 4 controls. There is also a utility room with full sized washer and dryer and we even include the detergent and dryer sheets for your convenience. You will find the iron and ironing board there also.
Our home is wired with cable TV and each TV (7 in all) is equipped with true HD channel boxes, for the ultimate in your viewing enjoyment and a DVD player for any movie buffs. Speaking of movies, there’s the Starz Movie network channels for free movies 24/7. For those who feel the need for speed and connectivity to the outside world, the house has high speed Wi-Fi Internet with excellent reception from everywhere inside the lodge not to mention anywhere on the property including the decks. Its password protected to ensure you have maximum bandwidth for your personal use.
The lower deck, off the game room contains the 5 person hot tub and plenty of rocking chairs to rock away the hours. The upper deck has a nice pub style table and chairs just perfect for eating outdoors or that relaxing morning cup of coffee. Mornings are our favorite time on the upper deck, just sitting and taking in the peace and solitude and watching the squirrels jumping from tree to tree. It makes our morning cup of coffee feel like so much more. In addition, there are more rocking chairs and benches for your relaxing enjoyment.
Each Jacuzzi tub comes with a sampling of bath salts, bubble bath, shampoo and conditioner, just in case you forgot some of the essentials. Please feel free to indulge yourself and let the relaxing jets carry your cares away. The bath salts are an especially inviting treat that we hope you will enjoy.
You will be mesmerized by the views of both Mt LeConte and Clingman's Dome. The cabin sits atop Panther Knob on a heavily wooded one acre lot so you feel secluded while sitting out on either deck. We are close enough to Dollywood (approx. 2 miles) that you can hear the train whistle inside the home. Being centrally located, Pigeon Forge is only 15 minutes away and you can take back roads to Sevierville and Gatlinburg bypassing all the heavy traffic. During winter months you can watch amazing sunsets through the barren trees.
There is wildlife all around on this mountain. On any given day you can see wild turkey, squirrels, raccoons and of course bears. Most nights you can turn off the interior lights and leave the upper deck porch lights on and be greeted to an entertaining and comical show of a mother raccoon and her very inquisitive 3 babies. We strongly advise against feeding them or harassing them in any way as they are wild creatures. Then there is the mamma bear and her 3 cubs that also frequent our home. No need to travel all the way to Cades Cove to see wildlife.
If you are seeking a cabin filled with luxurious amenities, close to all the action that the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge areas have to offer then we invite you to check us out. We would be honored to have you vacation in our home and feel the peace and quiet that we love to enjoy.

My father grew up in the Smoky Mountains and we still have plenty of relatives living up and down the mountain ranges. As a result, I grew up vacationing in and around the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge areas and so have loved this area for as long I can remember. My wife fell in love too on her first visit. It has been our dream to retire here and so we purchased a cabin that would eventually be our permanent home. We wanted a place with low crime rate where our grand kids can come and spend time with us and there would plenty for us to do with them. After more than a year of searching we finally found the place to call home.
Lu and Jerry Calhoun purchased this lodge in 2011
This area has such a diversity of great things to see and do. Both Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge offer so many festivities throughout the entire year that it is impossible to be bored. Then there is the natural beauty of the Smoky Mountains itself that almost defies description. From the history of the Cherokee Indians, their struggles and triumphs, to the early pioneer settlers and their way of life; experiencing it all is the only way to be able to truly relate to what we feel about this oh so very special place.
Mountain time in this area tends to run a little slower and allows you time to reflect on what is important in your life which helps clear out the cob webs that gather from the daily stresses that we all face.
This is a fantastic family friendly area with an extremely low crime rate. That is important for us and for our future grand kids that will be coming to visit us, giving us a great opportunity to spoil them. You will feel it with your own family too.
We spent more than a year looking and researching for just the right cabin and when we first walked in this one it felt so much like home that we knew it was the one for us. We love so much sitting on the deck watching the hours fly by and seeing the shadows chase the sun across the mountain tops until night falls and the most unbelievable starlit sky fills the heavens. There is a peace and solitude that fills the soul when one takes time to rest and watch nature in all her glory. It recharges our internal batteries like nothing else has been able to do.
We have filled this home with love and designed the interior furnishings with quality and comfort in mind. It has truly been a labor of love getting our home ready for the rental market and it’s our desire to make our home as open and comfortable to you as it is to us. We hope that staying here will bring you the same inner peace we feel whenever we have the chance to stay.
Our home is centrally located such that the major attractions can all be gotten to by traveling back roads which saves so much time, energy and frustration. We provide maps in the cabin that details all the major back roads so you can get around like a local and spend more time experiencing the things that this area has to offer.
Shaconage Lodge is a family friendly home where there are things for kids of all ages to do and experience. The acre lot gives the kids plenty of room to play in the woods just being kids. We are located at the very top of the mountain and there is little traffic to worry about so kids can explore the wonders of nature without the hassles of dangerous fast moving vehicles. There are numerous games inside to keep them occupied when the weather prevents outdoor play or nighttime falls. So, bring your family and relax. Let your soul feed on the peace and tranquility that Shaconage Lodge will provide you.
This is by far the best cabin I have ever stayed in. The decorations were amazing!! When we entered the cabin we were greeted with splendid Christmas decorations. We would definitely stay here anytime we visit the area. It was a short stay but we really enjoyed it. Thank you!!!

We met family at the house and celebrated a 40th anniversary. The great room was beautiful with its mountain views. The bedrooms with their adjoining bathrooms were nice with a pretty rustic feel and some of the most comfortable beds I have slept in.
The kitchen however was a little disappointing. Very little cabinet space. Opening a cabinet door usually meant having things as pots and pans or bowls fall out at you. No real space for any groceries. Some of the dishes and silverware were put away dirty. One dish towel and dish rag for the three days we stayed did not seem adequate. And the bumble bees were taking over the deck including near the stairs going up to front door. They seemed to be nesting inside one of the massive wood structures supporting the roof over the deck.
Lots of great games at the house.
We had a family group of 7 adults and 5 small kids (ages from 1 to 8). In short, the home was perfect for our needs. It had sufficient space to spread out during the day, and we could put the kids to bed at night and still have a place for the adults to relax. It was at the top of a mountain so we had amazing views. It was still close to Smoky Mountain National Park and Gatlinburg so we had plenty of outdoor things to do nearby. Everything was as advertised - TV's worked fine, pool table was fun, kitchen was fully stocked with all the items we would need for our extensive cooking, grill worked great, hot tub worked great, beds/linens were in great shape. The home is cozy and comfortable.
Our only "snafu" was that I was emailed a check-in time of 3pm, but when we arrived at 3pm, the home had not yet been turned. This was inconvenient as we had to wait until 4:30, but the owner and cleaning crew were apologetic and moved as quickly as possible.
Overall, it was an excellent experience and we would love to stay here again.
Had a Spring Break for two adult grandkids, a vacation for a married grandson and his wife, parents, and grandparents, total of 8. We had a great time and because of the way the house is arranged, everyone had their own private spaces, no fights over bathrooms etc. The lower level was separated enough for younger ones to watch B'Ball tournaments, girls to the hot tub and old folks to bed and no one bothering anyone! Of course lots to do in the area, and did try the Alpine Coaster as someone suggested, in addition to the Aquarium, Hatfields And McCoys Dinner show, Dixie Stampede, Wonder Works upside down house for whole rainy afternoon, Dixie Stampede, and Aerial Tram. On one day, went over the mountain to Biltmore for a fabulous day trip. Great vacation from snow and weather has to be warmer south of northern In. so enjoyed that too. Nice place and easily recommended!
Love, love, love the gorgeous views this home has to offer. Very spacious, beautifully decorated and well stocked. We celebrated bringing in the New Year with friends and family. There was plenty of space to spread out, TV's for the ballgame enthusiasts, comfortable beds, well stocked kitchen. We prepared all our meals at home, even enjoyed a sumptuous grill-cooked steak will all the trimmings for NYE. Loved sitting out on decks drinking hot chocolate in the early mornings and seeing the lights of town at night!! Thanks for the quick response to an issue we had while staying there. Boomer and Jerry came out a night to help us and make sure we had what we needed. Didn't have to go to town much but recommend taking shortcuts given in your paperwork due to heavy traffic during the holiday season. Most of our group rode the Alpine Mountain coaster, a must do for the thrill seekers (adults and children, too). Hiking is a fun thing to do in the moutains, some of our group even got to see snow on Roaring Fork Nature Trail. Definitely look forward to staying there in the future. Thanks for the use of your beautiful home allowing us quality time together and all the special memories we carry home with us.
It has been 20 years since we have stayed in the Smokies and expected traffic but it took us over 2 hours to get from 40 to the cabin because of traffic. We did figure out going over a few a few lights further on 40 no traffic. The cabin was excellent and plenty of room for my family with outstanding views! Only comment would agree about lighting in kitchen and we could not figure out how to use the dish washer. Thanks great place!
What a beautiful place! Our family- (My husband and I, our 3 children and their spouses and five of our grandchildren) had the most wonderful Thanksgiving week together in this beautiful lodge. We got to know our newly adopted 3 year old grandson-such a special time. Plenty of room for everyone ( all the kids loved playing and sleeping in the beautiful loft)-and what a view! We even had snow on Thanksgiving day! All being from Alabama-you can imagine the excitement. The beds were extremely comfortable-and the furnishings were so nice. All the guys enjoyed the pool table-and with 7 TV's-there was something for everyone the whole week. We did leave the lodge some for hiking, shopping, ski lift, etc. Thanks for sharing your beautiful lodge with all of us. We made memories for a lifetime.
