Located on famous Magazine Street and surrounded by restaurants, boutiques, antique shops, art galleries, bespoke clothiers, artisan jewelers, potters, coffee shops and more, this 1850's property has been updated for modern living while its charm and architecture have been maintained. Join the activity on the street, view it while sipping/grilling/dining on your spacious balcony, or retreat to your quiet, comfortable apartment with high ceilings, hardwood floors, 12-foot windows, central air/heat, comfortable king-size bed with luxury cotton linens, well-appointed cook's kitchen, full bath with soaking tub/shower and fluffy cotton towels. Amenities include gas grill; washer/dryer; satellite dish TVs; stereo system, and WiFi. Property was designed for the owners, an interior designer and an etched glass artist, and contains art glass and paintings throughout. The apartment home is designed to sleep two but will sleep four.
Gerry, an etched glass artist, and Melissa, an interior designer, purchased this 'building no one wanted' and our relationship to this historic property has been a longstanding love affair. We enjoy sharing it with others and have met a lot of fun and interesting people doing just that.
Melissa Myers purchased this apartment in 1996
Gerry had his Architectural Etched Glass business in this building for over twenty years.
Our location is like the old French Quarter with similar architecture, hidden courtyards, and very creative people living and working here. It has a village feel that we love.
Everything about our stay was amazing. The location was perfect, the home was very beautiful and extremely comfortable. We wish we could have stayed longer. We hope this home is available next time we stay in NO. You will not be dissappointed.
Oh, where do I begin? First, Melissa and Gerri, were the nicest landlords. They were there if we had questions, and very nice if we happened to run into them. We would love to sit down and have a drink with them to hear their New Orleans stories! Maybe our next trip ;).
We are quite experienced with VRBO, having used it as our only way to vacation travel for at least 10 years. This was the best so far. Mind you, we have never had a bad rental experience, but this was beyond our expectations. It has everything going for it, location, amenities, owners that live in the same building, an interior designer and glass artist owners, the list goes on.... The apartment is BEAUTIFUL! We have never stayed at a place that was so well stocked, from hair dryers, tea and coffee, electrical outlets EVERYWHERE, premium cable, dishes, linens, etc. Our only complaint was that our stuff totally polluted the beauty of the apartment.
The location couldn't be any better. We enjoyed walking the neighborhood among the Garden District Mansions as well as the local restaurants and shops. We could take the bus out front to downtown or the French Quarter as well as the St Charles street car a few blocks away.
Below are a few tours, and places we highly recommend.
Taxi, we figured out that it is much better to get to know a specific Taxi Driver rather than a company. A Much more reliable way to taxi. We highly recommend Kirkpatrick Singleton of White Fleet Taxi. He calls to confirm and always arrived a little early so you wouldn't wonder if you were getting stood up. His number is: (504) 450-4570, email K_singleton@hotmail.com.
1. Tours by Isabelle for plantation and swamp tours is fantastic. They will even pick you up at the apartment. They have a website. We would totally do the swamp tour again.
2. Bullfrog Bicycle Tours in the French quarter. This is an excellent way to see many of the neighborhoods in the city and learn a lot of local history. It is easy riding.
3. Haunted History Tours- one of their tours is in the Garden District neighborhood. It was fun learning about the mansions that we had been admiring all week on our walks.
4. World War II museum- this is a thirty minute walk down magazine street, or you can take public transport. It is worth the visit.
Thank you, Melissa and Gerri, for making our vacation so memorable. We miss New Orleans already.
when you can stay at Casabianca on happening Magazine Street. We stayed in the Quarter for years and were yearning for something fresh but with the historic feel. Casabianca fit the bill perfectly. Melissa has filled this lovely apartment with anything anyone could want. Her attention to detail shows her thoughtful planning. Everything you could possibly want is on Magazine Street -- we never strayed off it! And the balcony is fabulous -- allowing you to sit and watch all the action below! The bedroom in the back of the apartment makes for very quiet serenity and the kitchen is well equipped. We are VRBO owners also so really appreciate a turn-key property! This is it -- we'll be back!!!!
My husband & I visit New Orleans often and stay in various hotels in the city. We were looking for a different option where we weren't living out of our suitcase and had the opportunity to visit w family and friends in a home. We found Melissa and Jerry's beautiful home and booked. I cannot tell you how thrilled we were with our entire experience. The home is beautiful, spacious and well appointed. We had several friends and family over and had plenty of room to host dinner w everything we could have ever needed in the kitchen! We were able to have our meals here or simply walk right onto the street and find so many food options at our fingertips. The bed was so comfortable we slept for hours and relaxed like we were at our own home- this was amazing because we were there for 7 days and were in no rush to leave! We loved being there. We had the great fortune to spend some time with Melissa and Jerry and I cannot tell you how friendly and kind they were to us and our family. They truly made us feel so welcomed and will be friends upon our return. We are looking forward to booking the house again soon. Do not hesitate this property is a gem. Go saints!
We have the opportinuty to travel a good bit and always use VRBO; San Juan Islands, WA, Hawaii, Paris and Argentia. However, this rental exceeded all expectations. The apartment was truly a refuge to relax, catch up on my needed rest and use as a base while exploring the great city of New Orleans. We felt as if we had rented the 'dream' apartment - the pictures do not do The Casabianca justice. The artwork and furnishings were simply beautiful. We loved the location and found the shops & resturants in this strech of Magazine St great. No need for a car rental we walked all over the city and loved it. A couple of nights we caught a cab back from the French Quarter.
Melissa was wonderful! Listen to her recommendations - she is spot on. We will be back.
I was born and raised in New Orleans so I can honestly say that Casabianca is as good as it gets for a stay in this city. The house is even more beautiful than the pictures (which were totally accurate). Melissa and Gerry were so friendly and made everything so easy. It was very well stocked with everything you could possibly need. We were 103% happy with our stay :)
This part of Magazine Street was once called 'The Hippest Neighborhood in North America' by the Utne Reader. And being in the midst of the burgeoning movie industry has only added to the unique character. Historic Magazine Row, the 19th Century architectural jewel, is home to very unique businesses and residences. Nearby is Audubon Park, Zoo, & Golf Course; St.Charles Avenue Mansions and the architecture and gardens of our area,The Garden District; the French Quarter; the Mighty Mississippi River; Mardi Gras Parades, Mardi Gras World where the magic happens; WWII Museum; Coliseum Square Park; Ogden Museum of Southern Art; Aquarium of the Americas; The Insectarium; Riverboat Excursions; Convention Center; and the National Shrine of Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos, Contemporary Art Center; Julia Street Art District intersects with the Magazine Street Art District. Transportation is readily available by Streetcar, Bus, or Taxi.
