Ormond by the Sea is just north of Daytona Beach, famous for the Daytona International Speedway, Spring Break and annual events for motorcycle and automotive enthusiasts. In addition to all the attractions of Ormond Beach and Daytona Beach, the location is an ideal base for your vacation to Central Florida. From here, you’re 50 miles south of Saint Augustine, 60 miles from either Orlando, Disney, Universal Studios or the Kennedy Space Center and Port Canaveral, and just 80 miles south of Jacksonville.
Ormond Beach developed at the turn of the 20th century as a vacation retreat for the country’s ultra wealthy, including the Vanderbilts, Flaglers, Astors, and John D. Rockefeller, whose home “Casements” now serves as the Ormond Beach Community Enrichment Center. Early automotive pioneers drove their motor cars up and down the hard-packed sand beach, earning it nick name, “The Birthplace of Speed”. Driving is still permitted on parts of Ormond Beach but cars are prohibited at the northern end of the beach.
The City of Ormond Beach is located on either side of the Halifax River, which is part of the Intra-coastal Waterway (a series of federally maintained navigation channels extending from Norfolk, VA to Miami, Fl). There are wonderful walking trails along the river.

I inherited Bluebird Cottage from my father when he passed away several years ago. Before him my grandmother owned the cottage which she purchased in the early 1960's. My husband and I live in Texas but hate the idea of giving up such a family heritage. So we rent the house as often as we can and enjoy it ourselves several times a year. We just love the beach - watching the waves, surfers, pelicans, dolphins, turtles and people. The beach is never the same two days in a row. We have a dog named Calie and she loves to come with us. Therefore we have a pet friendly home.
Ormond Beach has a lot to offer. It has great restaurants, shops and parks. It has a very interesting history which you can explore through the Ormond Beach HIstorical Society. You are only an hour and a half from Disney World, St. Augustine and Cape Canaveral- which makes for fun day trips. Daytona Beach is a short distance away and the Daytona 500 Speedway is always fun to visit. Then there is the beach! The beach in Ormond by the Sea is clean with hard packed sand and the beuatiful blue/green water is always inviting- no matter how hot it is. When your done at the beach you have lots of other things to do- or if your like me a good book will do ya. John D Rockefeller chose Ormond Beach as his last home before he died at the age of 97. His doctors had told him that Ormond Beach was one of the healthiest places in the world to live. As we all know John D Rockefeller, without doubt one of the richest men in the world, could have lived anywhere in the world. There is something about the area that just makes you feel good and Mr. Rockefeller knew it.
There is nothing like sitting on the porch in the morning in the rocking chair and watching the sunrise. I could sit on the porch all day. Its a great place to pass the day. If you want to take a walk you are less than 30 steps to the beach. We have a Starbucks which is only a few miles down the road. A donut shop is within walking distance. So is some of the greatest pizza parlors and sandwich shops. If you haven't driven The Loop then you need to google it and take the ride. The drive is through some of the most beautiful, pristine countryside you will ever see. Just down the street is a kayak rental. If you like to fish there are several charters leaving from Ponce Inlet where you can see the lighthouse. If your less adventuresome you can try surf fishing right outside the front door. Needless to say you will not be bored! There is a Publix grocery store less than a mile away which is very convenient and the house is less than 5 minutes from a great shopping district.
