Leave the traffic and stress behind! This peaceful place is a perfect spot to unwind!.
For those who want to be centrally located to wonderful things the Front Range of Colorado has to offer, this is a great home base for your adventures. Go skiing, bird watching, hiking, biking, fishing at the State Park and more. It is located in the mountains less than 1 hour from Denver, Boulder, and Rocky Mountain National Park so there are many day trips to be taken in all directions! The new Gilpin County Recreation Center has 2 pools and a water slide, classes and workout facilities.
Be sure to take time to relax on the deck and enjoy the breathtaking views and sunshine.
My husband and I arrived early in the week, awaiting our son/d-in-l and two little girls (1 and 3) for the fourth of July weekend. It was a perfect spot for us all: relaxing and comfortable, clean and very well equipped, with plenty of outdoors to entertain the girls with rock and pinecone gathering and decks for the adults to sit quietly and watch the water. Nederland and environs drew our attention for a play area and the Carousel of Happiness, with grocery and shopping options that fit our needs (although we had made an early week excursion into Boulder for some more esoteric supplies). After an trip to the nearby Golden Gate state park , we happened upon a huge moose, wandering and splashing in "our" lake! And on two separate days, we were treated to early morning sightings of a herd of elk across the lake from the house! Kris could not have been more helpful in supplying us with ideas for fun in the area, and we certainly hope to return to take advantage of more! Many thanks!!
Our family had a wonderful time at this mountain spot. Comfortable, beautiful views, and as convenient as you will get in the mountains. We really appreciated the information compiled by the owner that directed us to nearby Nederland -- a wonderful little town -- and to the nearby state park. The mountain bikes that were available were a nice surprise for the young adults. This was a great location to use as our home base for RMNP and Boulder/Denver activity.
We enjoyed the house very much. It slept 6 adults very comfortably and was clean, nicely furnished and well equipped. You had to drive about 45 min. to a grocery store (convenience store/gas station was just a short drive) and a variety of activities were 1-2 hours by car (hot springs, gambling, Coors brewery, shopping, Denver and National Parks), but you were right at the entrance to Golden State Park and the scenic drives up the mountain were breathtaking. The lake is small (about a mile around) and there is no fishing allowed, but we enjoyed watching the fish jump out of the water as they fed on insects. It was very peaceful to sit on the deck and just take in the beauty of the lake with the backdrop of the Rocky Mountains. Would definitely recommend to anyone who likes to get away from it all, but still be close enough to enjoy other activities.
From the moment we drove up the long, peaceful driveway and stepped inside this beautiful lakeside home, we knew we had made the right choice. No more hotel rooms, noisy "neighbors", cramped quarters and sharing one bathroom for our growing family of 4 (including 2 teenage boys who refuse to share a hotel bed.) Staying in a real home for our two weeks in Colorado was such a blessing. Everyone had their own bed; two huge bathrooms made for no fighting in the morning; we could have a leisurely breakfast without the huge food bill, and everyone slept so peacefully. It really added a dimension of peacefulness that we had not experienced on previous vacations.
Kristine's home is beautiful and stocked with everything we needed for our day-to-day activities. The view from the master bedroom, and back deck is gorgeous, and we saw elk twice (very early in the morning) drinking from the lake. We loved practicing our photography skills on the chipmunks, rabbits, and hummingbirds that joined us every morning in the back yard. The neighborhood is so quiet, yet there were neighbors nearby so we didn't feel like we were in the middle of nowhere. We were close enough to bigger cities (Boulder, Denver, Breckenridge, Estes Park), yet far enough away that we felt like we were truly getting away. The farthest we drove for a day-trip was to Colorado Springs, yet even then we were within two hours.
Although the owner doesn't live instate, she has a wonderful property manager, Lauri, who lives close to the property and who was readily available to answer our questions, give us lots of information about the area, and even shopped for a birthday cake and groceries prior to our arrival, to help us surprise our 13-year old! Kristine, the owner, provided us with plenty of information prior to our trip, as well, which made planning easy. Everything that was shown or stated on the website was exactly the way it was in person (the house layout, the decor, the ammenities.) I would highly recommend staying at Kristine's "home away from home" when visiting Colorado. We can't wait until we can stay there again!
Lastly, some local restaurants and attractions that we really liked: The Sundance Cafe, The Black Forest Restaurant,The Gilpin County Community Center (spent a morning there swimming and working out on the equipment), the quaint shops in Nederland, walking around the Barker Meadow Reservoir, hiking at Golden Gate Canyon State Park, the scenic drive to Boulder. Great vacation!!!
My sisters and I took our first vacation together and spent a week at this house. The house was very comfortable, well stocked, and the view was breathtaking. Kristine could not have been more accommodating and patient, since she was trying to please five women all at once! Thanks Kristine for providing such a great spot for our first annual sisters road trip.
Centrally located to everything! Less than 1 hour from Denver, Boulder and Rocky Mountain National Park. Just 1 mile from the north entrance of Golden Gate Canyon State Park. 4 miles to Gilpin County Rec Center with indoor pool, water slide, work out facilities and classes. Travel 10 miles south to historic Black Hawk and Central City for some western history, food, fun and gambling. 10 miles to the north, Nederland has some good restaurants with live music several nights a week, shopping and several art and music festivals in the summer. Many find it hard to leave the house, it is a perfect place to just relax and get away from everyday stress, traffic and recharge while enjoying the beautiful lake and mountain views.
