Nestled under the sandstone bluffs that nature carved out of Rocky Hollow, things are quiet, easy going, and perfect for your holiday away from it all. Here lies Big Rock Log Cabin tucked away in the Kentucky mountains yet only minutes away from Natural Bridge State Park, Red River Gorge and the Daniel Boone National Forest. After a day of fishing, hiking, or rock climbing, Big Rock is a wonderful place to come home to. Relax on a large covered porch complete with comfortable lounge chairs and table. Come ready to grill out on the porch at the gas grill and eat out under the trees at a picnic table nestled up in Big Rock Hollow. Big Rock Log Cabin beckons you to slow down, relax, and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature, all in the comfort of a cozy & well furnished log cabin, or lean back in a lounge chair inside Big Rock’s own rock shelter. Big Rock Cabin is fully furnished with new furniture and antiques, creating a cozy, comfortable feeling. All linens, blankets and towels are furnished so all you need to bring are food, drink, and personal items. Central air and heat will keep you comfortable any time of the year. Big Rock Cabin has a bath and a half plus a Jacuzzi. Do you like to cook? We just finished the new galley style kitchen that is fully furnished with refrigerator, electric stove, dish washer, microwave, toaster oven, coffee pot, and all the utensils you need for cooking, eating, and drinking. Don’t want to cook? During the season Big Rock is only 5 minutes away from great pizza, subs, or a full buffet dinner. That’s the nice thing about Big Rock, it’s close to everything, but when you top the ridge and drive down into Rocky Hollow you are suddenly away from it all. Natural Bridge State Park is only 5 minute drive where you can enjoy hiking trails, swimming pool, fishing lake, or dinner in the resort lodge. Five minutes more and you are in the Red River Gorge Geological Area and the Daniel Boone National Forest with it’s forest and mountain trails leading to huge natural stone arches and fantastic views of cliff lined valleys. You can even enjoy the trails with your dog in the National Forest. This is a wonderful, undiscovered part of nature where you will see breath taking views without hoards of people. There isn’t a stop light for 20 miles. Come to the Kentucky Mountains and stay at Big Rock Log Cabin. This is a family cabin and not for parties so no spring breakers please.
Originally an archaeologist but for many years I have dealt in antiquarian books and historic documents with my bookstore Glover's Bookery. I live in downtown Lexington, KY but am a nut for the great outdoors, thus Big Rock was born [my life saver].
John Glover purchased this cabin in 2005
Big Rock is only a hour from Lexington yet located in the most beautiful deep woods natural area in Kentucky surrounded by cliffy wilderness. I bought Big Rock specifically because it is a Log cabin (a must), was unfinished (so I could finish the inside like I wanted), is under the cliff (my golden retrievers don't know what a cliff edge is), the property has interesting features (massive block boulders, a rock house, and gorilla rock), and lastly is close to Natural Bridge and Red River Gorge (Natural Bridge State Park shares a back property line with Big Rock). Fell head over heels for it the moment I saw it.
New log cabin yet cozy, rustic, and inviting. All wood everywhere, not a drop of paint or sheetrock to be found. Nestled under a 40 foot sandstone cliff with flanked by block boulders the size of a house. Just steps from a huge rock shelter (the rock house) and Gorilla Rock. The cabin if full of unique Folk Art from all over rural American as well as from my travels.
As my husband said, He brought me here for my birthday and it was one of the best surprises I ever had. This place is magic. So many thing to appreciate (the cabin, the design, decoration, camp fire outside, every thing clean, cozy, prepared with so much love!..). The natural beauty surrounding the cabin is just surreal. I barely went to sleep. The excitement of being here was great. Now we are leaving I almost feel depressed, I don’t want to go back to reality but also a feeling of joy and hope we will come back soon!
I live in Stanford, KY but I’m originally from Sad Paulo, Brazil and this is one of the most beautiful place I visited, love U all, Thanks for everything
Nice cabin, nice location. Cabin is well equipped with everything you need. Comfortable furniture & beds. Bathroom is very nice. Our stay started off a little disappointing. The cleaning lady had car trouble, so it wasn't cleaned when we arrived. Brought all our stuff inside, so when she arrived a few hours later, we asked just to have the bathrooms cleaned & sheets changed. It must have rained before we got there...couldn't use the firepit because it was too wet & muddy. Wrap around front porch with ceiling fans & rocker chairs was awesome. Beautiful & quiet. Natural Bridge Park is really nice, but take note if traveling with dogs, the park does not allow you to take them.
Great location! Quiet and secluded yet located in heart of Natural Bridge & RRG. Cabin clean & well maintained - kitchen is well stocked with plenty of cookware and even a spice rack. Interesting rock formations, wide variety of trees including big leaf magnolias - RRG at its finest!
We decided last minute to ditch our traditional wedding plans in our home town and instead marry here in Slade. We got this cabin to have a night as newlyweds by ourselves. It is beautiful!!! The location is secluded and the inside makes you feel right at home. There is an array of boardgames and puzzles to choose from to enjoy your time together as well as a few movies to choose from. The kitchen was fully stocked from a wine corker all the way to a toaster oven and full size stove and refrigerator. John even emailed us the day of our check-in to advise us of a slick spot on the road. Anita, the housekeeper, was very pleasant to speak with when we called to ask about trash placement. We definitely hope to be back soon!
Thank you! We enjoyed staying at your cabin. We didn't expect decorations for Christmas so that was a very nice surprise and the Christmas tree all light up upon arriving was warm and inviting. the location to where we were hiking was perfect. Ours dog family like the stay as well. Thank you again. We would recommend your cabin to others and we would come back again.
At Big Rock Log Cabin you are surrounded by deep forest, towering cliffs, and you'll have your own large rock house just outside the backdoor of the cabin. The are boasts some of the most beautiful hiking trail east of the Mississippi, most leading to stone formations or natural stone arches. An undiscovered bit of heaven.
