This is a comfortable, unpretentious, home in west Petaluma. The streets are wide and tree shaded, and you are a walk or bike ride away from the historic downtown, the Theatre District and many local parks.
Dine out or dine in, or picnic in the back yard garden. Amble to the Farmer's market (Saturdays) and take your finds home to create in the vintage kitchen or just hang around the house and relax with the modern amenities of WiFi/ flat screen TV. Or pretend you're not connected, and play some board games.
You can catch a live act at the Mystic or the Phoenix, or stay home and jam on the piano or guitar. The walls are hung with local art and the organic cotton linens are fresh and new.
Take the scenic back roads west to the coast/Point Reyes, or east to the Sonoma and Napa Valley wine country; jaunt up to SF, or explore local history and antique stores -whatever your plans you'll find Petaluma a unique town that works as well as a destination as a starting point.
'The Old Country' was the term my children used for this house after they left home. Like immigrants to a new land recalling their roots, they always felt a connection to the house they grew up in. We hope potential visitors feel as welcome.

My husband and I spent a month in Patricia's nice vintage house. Patricia is a very sweet lady and she and her son Jesse were both very easy to work with. The house is in a very safe and quiet neighborhood about 10 minutes walk from downtown Petaluma so close to coffee shops, restaurants, theaters, shops and the Petaluma Market for groceries. The neighborhood is nice for walking and isn't too far from Helen Putnam park for more strenuous workouts. It is very easy to get out of town for trips to the ocean or wine country. The outside cat, Ruby, was there to greet us in the backyard along with the fragrant jasmine and Meyer lemon tree. There were city bikes in a storage shed in the back for our use. Inside, the house was spotless. Patricia had flowers in many rooms and Petaluma pie in the fridge for us. The bathroom is modest but has everything you need and everything works. Kitchen is vintage but again has everything needed to make meals which we did frequently. A nice plus was the good selection of knives and pots and pans. There is a nice big dining table just off the kitchen and a comfortable sofa with big screen TV in the great room. Wifi is also available along with satellite TV. The heater in this area works fine but is a bit noisy when it is running but the heat is nice on cool Petaluma nights. The master bedroom has a very comfortable queen bed with nice linens and the most amazing down comforter. The twin beds in the other room were less comfy but there is plenty of bedding and blankets and towels. Washer and dryer work well and there is a clothesline in the back for hanging things out. Patricia's house suited us very well. After a month, we were starting to miss our own home with some more modern conveniences but we really did have everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. We would certainly consider staying again.
We have just returned from staying in this lovely house for the last week of our three week trip to the US with our two teenage kids. The first two weeks were full on in an RV and covering 2000 miles so we were ready for a week of relaxing and being in one place. And what a lovely place. The house itself is pretty, homely and spotlessly clean - it has obviously been really loved over the years. Light and roomy with a lovely vintage feel, well equipped and comfortable. The garden was a really tranquil place to sit and we loved the fruit trees. The pies on our arrival were very welcome and set the tone for the week. Petaluma is a great town and the house is just a ten minute walk to downtown. We loved the Petaluma market and used it daily. We visited the farmers market, mooched in the shops and went to the Petaluma Pie shop and the Applebox for lunches. We found the Visitors Centre (once we had found it) really helpful. Used the house as a base for visiting San Francisco, Armstrong Woods, Russian River, Napa Valley, SausalIto and the coast. All very easy to get to. Loved it - thank you so much Jesse and Patricia for making us so welcome.
My husband and I, and our son and his wife stayed here in July of 2014. We were amazed that our every need had been thought of and accommodated in advance; from extra lap blankets for chilly nights sitting in the yard to aprons for messy cooking jobs. The kitchen was the most complete we've ever come across, so check it out before you grocery shop. The ''cottage" was immaculate, homey in a retro way but up to date with needed tech.
Patricia was a lovely hostess. Four fabulous Petaluma Pie Co. mini-pies greeted us on the kitchen table and fresh flowers graced several rooms. Patricia introduced us to all the fruit trees with an invitation to pick any ripe fruit. The location made for an easy walk into downtown where we stopped at Bus Stop Coffee for the best coffee experience in the entire area.
Our son would have preferred a more comfortable and less noisy twin bed than the metal roll away that was the second bed in the second bedroom, but for children the bed would probably be just fine. The other beds were very comfortable and the bedrooms spacious, each with a sitting area. Overall, this was a great home away from home!
Grandparents + two granddaughters + Old Country rental = fun, comfort, relaxation. As noted by previous renters, this home offered great location, wonderful landlords (Patricia & Jesse), cleanliness, and all necessary essentials for cooking. The beds were comfortable, and the bicycles provided hours of amusement for the girls. The backyard is so restful--decorated with two couches & a hanging swinging chair. Patricia checks in with guests upon arrival and left us some fruit pies from the local Pie company. This location offers a myriad of things to do: walking distance to downtown Petaluma, easy drive to Sebastopol, Bodega Bay, Valley Ford & Duncan Mills--some of our favorite haunts. Our trips to this area always include a visit to Dinucci's in Valley Ford; our grandgirls love the family-style atmosphere and food. Petaluma downtown provides great shopping and restaurants as well as music venues. This property is equally good for families, seniors, or a girls outing. We hope to return soon!
this comfortable home met all our needs so that we could have a family and sight seeing adventure in beautiful petaluma and surrounding area! we were able to have a small friends and family dinner here and also have a comfortable place to relax and rest up for our next adventures! our son, neil and his fiance, kimi, were married in the area and this gave us a central base for many gatherings! it is quaint and well appointed. the yard has beautiful flowers and delicious fruits! the location is ideal for all the petaluma area and nearby vineyards! it has the feel of home and all the necessities to make a trip relaxing and comfortable! and such a wonderful hostess, Patricia! her influence was felt throughout the home!
What a gem! We spent a wonderful week at the cottage while visiting family in town. The owner, who is just lovely, went out of her way to make us comfortable and greeted us with treats from a local bakery as well as lots of insider advice. There was plenty of room for us (two adults and one toddler) and it was spotless—and I mean spotless--and stocked with everything we needed to feel at home (plenty of soft linens, cooking utensils, washing machine with detergent, etc). There were also fresh flowers in every room and a lemon tree full of fruit in back. We loved the retro charm of the cottage, with the old-fashioned-looking (but updated and very functional) appliances, and the location. It's in a cute neighborhood with some great locals parks and playgrounds nearby, and Helen Putnam Park, with its trails and views, is just a short run or drive away. We found it to be an easy walk into downtown Petaluma (we had borrowed a stroller, and the three of us walked into town almost every day). It's also a great base for exploring the North Bay area (so much to see and do, for kids and adults!). We were so very happy with our choice. We loved staying here, and will definitely be back!
We are half a mile from historic downtown Petaluma. We are also just a few blocks away from the Petaluma Boys and Girls club and McNear Park, both of which offer many free recreation options from public tennis courts, to soccer, basket ball, softball, children's play ground, and after-school kids programs.
