Neighborhood feel, friendliness, more relaxed pace of life. Love the diversity! A few houses from the Glendale blvd, this is a great location and is quiet, safe, family friendly area.
Original Character, quiet Location, hear duck flying to river, humming birds, many other birds and wildlife as steps away from La River and Griffith Park.
This is our third trip to LA, and by far our best experience. We loved this house. We fell in love the minute we walked in. Great location, nice neighborhood, very charming and comfortable home, nice little backyard deck. We had a great week.
The house is amazing. Classic early 20th century architecture, even the original heater! You can walk to a dozen eateries. Cuban, Vietnamese, a German gastropub with rattlesnake on the menu, all within 2 blocks! Pizza, too, for the less adventurous. And it's not a strip mall, it's a funky, neat, walkable downtown with nary a chain store in sight. Plus you are half a block from the L.A. River, which is a neat walking experience. It's is a perfect location to visit universal studios, Hollywood, and especially the Griffith Observatory. Some places may be closer to one attraction, but this is relatively central and much safer feeling than many other places you could stay. I was comfortable walking with my three girls under ten years of age in the evening. A great value!
If you have ever rented or lived in a much older house, then this property will be very familiar. As with many older homes this has the layers of paint and the creaky hardware and odd spaces that are from an older era. If you are a person who expects fresh and new this is not the space for you. While not new, the space was very comfortable for us.
The space has two decent bedrooms with a shared bathroom. The shared bathroom needs you to make rules. I grew up in a house with a bathroom with 2 doors so it was very familiar to me. The bedrooms are nice and the beds were comfortable.
The living room and the dining room were comfortable and spacious enough for 6 or seven people to visit and eat. There is also a really nice back yard deck with an umbrella.
The kitchen is odd but functional. There is also a laundry which was very useful.
As a tip: The space has on demand water heating, so you need to let it run for a little while before it starts heating water. Once it is going it works great.
Kevin was very responsive to questions and I am sure if we needed anything he would have dropped over very quickly.
Lastly, but most importantly the closeness to Atwater Village main drag (Glendale) was really nice. We could to stroll up for a breakfast or desert or shop. We went to the farmers market on Sunday and even went to the library to print boarding passes. It was really nice to not have to hop in a car to get dinner. This is a very safe and quiet (except the traffic noise that is all over LA) neighborhood.
My husband, two year old son, and I stayed here during a week that combined work and vacation. The wood floor, kitchen tiles, and structure of the house are classic 20s Los Angeles (made me nostalgic for the apartment I lived in before moving from the city), while furnishings and linens are modern, appealing, and comfortable. The two-bedroom set-up with a shared bathroom between was perfect for us as a couple with a child. There's a pleasant small, sunny office space off the kitchen and the back deck, tucked away from the living room and bedrooms, great for working while someone else is using the living room. Enjoyed the back deck in the afternoon and during a morning cup of coffee and the yard for a game of catch and blowing bubbles with our kid. Some hip stores, a first-rate bakery, cozy drinking spots from wine bars to dive bars, and many family-friendly eating spots nearby on Glendale Blvd, and (with a little more energy) on Los Feliz-- a good walking neighborhood. Near I-5, with very easy access to work or entertainment downtown (though many Angelinos would be appalled at the idea of attempting public transportation, anywhere in the city, I was even able to take a bus home one day from a work meeting, while my husband and kid had our car). Owner was friendly and helpful and easy to contact by phone. We would definitely stay here, again.
we stayed at this property for about 5 days, and were very happy with everything. the place looks exactly like it does in the pictures. the beds were comfortable, everything was clean. the couch was especially comfortable and was nice to relax on after a long day of playing at theme parks and wandering around cool LA neighborhoods. i'd definitely stay here again. the neighborhood is very walkable and is close to restaurants, coffee shops, etc. and is full of the cutest homes. if you choose this place, feel confident that you are getting an awesome place to stay.

Only about a few 100 ft from LA river which is very nice in this area because it feels like a real river. Here there are many birds and ducks and other wildlife. Just a couple miles to GRIFFITH PARK, which has everything like hiking, tennis,horseback, pool, tennis court,soccer,and more. Less than 1/4 mile to all of Atwater's Shops, eateries, coffee houses, even Trader Joes is less than 1/4 mile away!!
