|Minimum Stay||7 nights|
THIS IS A 7 NIGHT MINIMUM RENTAL. Beautifully restored but with all the modern comforts, this historic home was built along with 5 others in a row in 1886 by noted Spanish architect, Rafael Guastavino and is featured in several self guided NYC architectural walking publications. Located on a quiet, friendly, tree-lined street near the Museum of Natural History - 'Time Out Magazine's 'Best 50 Blocks in NYC' publication ranked our block #10! The home has just undergone a complete historical restoration of the front facade, bringing the home back to its original glory! Our 4 story, 5 bedroom, 4.5 bath home is the perfect respite from a busy day of sightseeing! Walk up the ornate stoop (great for sitting on to meet the neighbors or just watch the world go by) to the parlour level entrance and enter a wide open space that includes a light-flooded living and dining room that continues back through a large open pantry and breakfast bar to a large, fully stocked gourmet kitchen that overlooks the back gardens. Through the french doors, an ornate iron stairway takes you to the garden where you can dine alfresco on pleasant evenings. A teak dining table and chairs plus a covered living/lounge area provide ample seating for a festive BBQ (gas and charcoal). Back in through french doors at garden level is a home theater/den with a 52' flat screen television, reclining theater seats, a queen air mattress with bedding and an elliptical machine. There is also a kitchenette with sink, wine cooler and 2 drawer under-counter refrigerator and cabinets with BBQ supplies. A small half bath in the hallway outside of the den and a stairway leading up to the parlor level completes this floor. NOTE: we do have a long term tenant in a studio at the front of the house who is quite friendly and helpful; however there is a door in the hallway that closes and locks for complete privacy if you desire it. A beautiful carved mahogony staircase takes you up to the third level which contain master and guest bedroom suites. The master bedroom towards the back of the house has a king bed, love seat, television, walk in closet and tiled bathroom with a clawfoot tub, two person shower, and marble sink. There is also an ornate iron catwalk through the french doors that open onto a large deck overlooking the gardens. The guest suite has a king bed, lounge chair, television, tiled bathroom with shower stall and large bay window facing the street with its beautiful trees (3 seasons!) and the 8 additional row of Guastavino brownstones directly across the street. Up the final carved staircase is the fourth level that we call 'the kids floor' with 2 twin bedrooms and one double bedroom, a tiled bathroom with tub/shower, a tiled bathroom with shower stall, a laundry room and an open 'common room' which leads to a small deck also overlooking the gardens. There are ceiling fans in every room; central radiant heating and zoned air conditioning throughout the house. May not be suitable for groups with very young or infirm members.
1/2 block from Natural History Museum, 1 1/2 blocks to Central Park. Walking distance to Lincoln Center, Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Children's Museum, Free Shakespeare in the Park (summer only), Macy's Thanksgiving Eve Balloon Blow Up (1/2 block), Wollman Ice Skating Rink, and legendary deli, Zabars. Sunday Flea Market and Farmers Market around the corner! Please note, do to the numerous stairs (this is a four story townhouse) it may not be suitable for parties with very young or infirm members.
