I can't begin to say enough great things about Casa Azul and it's owners. This most recent trip made our 10th visit to Caye Caulker. In the past we have rented other houses on the island, however not a single one comes anywhere close to the experience of Casa Azul. The house itself is more than just a rental property. It is truly a home. Pictures of Mark and Susan(and the kids) adorn every room in the house and it has a wonderful "lived in" feel... not just some rental property(i think Mark even had some clothes in the closet... heh). The house is impeccably clean and is decorated in standard Belizian style with local furniture and art. Communication with the owner, Mark couldn't have been better. He always promptly returned emails. We now consider him to be a great friend. You couldn't rent from a better guy!
Located at the far end of the airstrip, Casa Azul is set off a little from the hustle and bustle of town. It feels like the island is practically all yours with no one else in sight. The view from the veranda is absolutely amazing. The third story of the house(master bedroom level) sits about 20 feet above the tree tops so you have a fantastic 360 degree view of the island. You can watch both the sunrise and sunset from this elevation. Every morning, we sat in our hammocks and watched the spotted eagle rays feeding right in front of the house(and on two mornings we even saw dolphins playing).
In the past, we've stayed in other houses on the island that required us to bring just about everything(sheets, towels, TP, etc.), but Casa Azul is very well stocked(much better than we had expected). The house comes complete with fresh linens, towels, local cell phone, ipod, bikes, snorkel gear, fishing equipment, and a variety of other amenities to make your stay perfect. There are also plenty of dishes and cooking supplies(nice grill, pots, pans, knives, etc). In the spirit of "pay it forward", we noticed plenty of other useful items that seem to have been purposely left behind by previous guests: bug spray(not needed too badly), sunblock, flashlights, books, and even a bottle or two of rum(not sure if thats standard, but someone left it behind and we graciously accepted the gift and left some in return).
We'll definitely be renting this house again next year!!!!!!
