A wonderfully relaxing and serene homebase after a day of exploring the city.
Had such an amazing time staying in your apt. It was so centrally located and within an easy walking distance to great restaurants, dining and public transportation. We felt safe walking around, and we loved that the grocery store is so close by. Can't wait to come back to New York again and stay at your apt!
For starters, Louis (the owner) was a fantastic person to deal with. He's a top-shelf guy who exceeded every expectation he set and was very accommodating. We booked on relatively short notice, but he really went the extra mile to make things great for us. He picked up a nice bottle of wine that my wife would like, he stocked the fridge with a couple of items for us, and he picked up some nice chocolates that we enjoyed.
The place was fantastic. My wife and I debated a lot on whether to go the hotel route or the VRBO route. With the hotel, you know what you’ll get but they are usually super generic and make you feel a bit like cattle. With VRBO, the risk is always that you walk in and are instantly disappointed. We were super happy we went with the VRBO route. The place was great.
I hate doing rankings on the 5-star system because these things are so subjective and depend on any individual’s expectations. Here’s what I can say…totally honestly. I live in Vancouver, Canada and we tend to enjoy pretty nice higher-end hotels and the like when we travel. My expectations are pretty high. I was holding my breath a bit, when I first walked into this building because the structure seems pretty old. The doorman was super nice and I let my breath out as I walked down the hall to the elevator because I looked through the courtyard into an apartment that looked pretty swank. Then, when I walked into Louis’ place, I let out a big breath because it’s great. I loved the lofted bedroom. I am an early riser and having a separated bedroom allowed me to go into the living room and read while my wife slept. We had grand plans to eat breakfast at the place (part of the reason for choosing the VRBO route) but found ourselves with too many great places in Soho to try eating at so we ended up eating out for every meal. I grabbed some ice cream on the way home one night and it melted in the freezer, but that might have been my fault…maybe that wasn’t a freezer.
The location is spectacular. You are literally about 20 paces from Broadway and boom…right in the thick of Soho.
I’d sum up by saying if you are really debating between a decent 4-star hotel and this place…choose this place. I think you’ll be happy you did. We were.
I am a resident of Chicago and came to NYC for business and pleasure.
I loved this location, and much prefer it to Times Square/Midtown. Honestly, If I ever moved to NYC, this would be the ideal neighborhood!
Here are some of the highlights:
- Whole Foods is 4 blocks away
- Morton Williams which is open 24 hours is 2 blocks away
- Tons of great restaurants like Bond St, Mercer Kitchen, Lafayette, Blue Hill, as well as cheap and cheerful places like Pinche Taqueria
- Washington Square Park looks amazing after all the recent renovations
- Apple Store is 3 blocks away...handy when my iPhone needed servicing
- UPS Store 3 blocks away
- Angelika Film Center for indie films is 1 block away
- Crate & Barrel 1 block away
- Starbucks half a block away
- And a great 24 hour deli with delivery that served as my version of "room service" with eggs, coffee, bagels, etc
And most importantly, it is one of the few areas on the island where so many subway lines are easily accessible:
- 6 train Bleecker St stop is 2 blocks away
- N/R Prince Street stop is 2 blocks away
- B/D/F/M Broadway/Lafayette stop is 1 block away
- A/C/E/ is one stop away (take the BDFM to West 4th and transfer).
Thus, I can get to Times Square, the Met, or to World Trade just as easily...not many parts of town offer than convenience.
All in all, I loved my visit and hope to have another soon!
I wanted my first trip to New York to be unforgettable so I opted to rent a place. I was very impressed how clean, neat, convenient, beautiful this place was. Louis was very accommodating, he made sure I would feel at home and even took me to a nice brunch right around the corner from the apartment. I enjoyed every second I had in this apartment, made me nespresso coffee in the morning and even used some of the kitchen gadgets to make breakfast before starting my day. A big plus was the luxurious bathrooms, nice hot showers and soaking in the bathtub was relaxing after a busy day in the city. I truly loved this place! It was near the subways stations and all the shopping and great restaurants. I'm already planning my next trip to the city next year and will definitely be staying here again. Can't wait!!!
By far the best place my wife and I have ever stayed in NYC.
This apartment is the perfect retreat from the activity of the city. The furnishings are top of the line and well maintained. The apartment is as clean as it could possibly be. We loved the 3-level layout and the two bathrooms.(the shower in the upstairs bath was great!). The large windows open onto a courtyard so it is very quiet and there is great natural light.
The owner couldn't be nicer or more attentive. He met us when we arrived and showed us the apartment and how to use all the amenities. He also checked in with us to make sure that everything was going okay.
The location of the apartment is in our favorite part of the city, so we couldn't have been happier. The building has a doorman and is very secure. There's a nice grocery store just a couple of blocks away with fresh bagels and fruit, as well as anything else one would need. Lots of restaurants within a short walk. Subway stops are very convenient and it's just a short ride to get to midtown for plays.
We're already making plans for a return trip in the fall!
Great apartment, great location, great host! We thoroughly enjoyed staying in the apartment-loved the furnishings! The host provided helpful hints and tips during our stay including places to shop and eat. The location is so central to everything, subway, fashion and an amazing organic supermarket. The apartment is very quiet which allows for a restful nights sleep.
We recently spent 3 nights at this perfectly located 1-bdrm 2-bath 3-level apartment, finding it exactly-as-advertised – quiet, clean, and comfortable. Its modern minimalist decor was surprisingly warm and cozy, and a most welcome contrast to the slushy city weather. One of those places you want to snuggle into and read away the day in bed until the city beckons.
Located in the heart of downtown New York City where the West Village meets Soho, you are less than 3 blocks away from amazing shopping such as Prada and Marc Jacobs, great restaurants such as Bond Street (sushi) and Mercer Kitchen (a Jean-Georges restaurant) and Washington Square Park.
