NEW! HISTORIC FARMHOUSE, MODERN SENSIBILITIES, STUNNING VIEWS, 11.17 ACRES

Woodstock Farmhouse Rental Photos and Description

3 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, 2 Fireplaces, Indoor Jacuzzi, + 1 Guest Cottage W/bath

Perched high atop one of woodstock’s prettiest mountain roads sits avalon farm. Named for its proximity to the lovely camelot trail, avalon farm lives up to its magical moniker. A vision in cream with tranquil, white-on-white interiors and utterly mesmerizing views, the home is an absolute oasis of calm.

In summers, the sunroom, with its cathedral ceiling, floor to ceiling windows and cool, stone floors becomes a family gathering place. Drink in the heavenly scent of the heirloom lilac trees just off the bluestone patio beyond. Watch the sun’s reflections glimmer across the reservoir far below. Or keep an eye on the kids as they romp under the trees in the gently sloping (and beautifully landscaped) yard. No need to worry about deer ticks. Deer fencing encloses the entire property! In warmer months only, the sunroom sleeper sofa can accommodate two extra guests. In fall and spring, the swedish kakelugn (tile stove) extends the season, keeping you warm and toasty.

In winter, migrate indoors to one of two sitting rooms downstairs. The hand-hewn exposed beams create a cozy atmosphere. In the larger of these rooms, you’ll find an entertainment center, a flat-screen tv, cable, dvd player, sound system, and a sofa large enough for the whole family to stretch out. There’s also and wood-burning fireplace. Watch the flames or watch a film? Both! The other room has views of the sunroom and the yard beyond. It’s a great place for the kids to spread out with toys or for adults to curl up with a good book.

Upstairs, you’ll find three surprisingly roomy bedrooms. Off the master bedroom is an anteroom that serves as nursery. Perfect for parents of young children! Here you’ll find a daybed, a crib, and shelves for toys and books. There is an additional crib located within the master bedroom itself.

The master suite has a king-size bed, windows on three sides and more breathtaking seasonal views of the reservoir. Surrounded as it is by greenery and sky, you’ll feel as if you’re sleeping in a tree house – but with much better plumbing and heating. Stretch out on the chaise by the windows and watch the clouds roll by. Yoga aficionados will especially appreciate the smooth floor with space enough for daily practice. The master bathroom has a large jacuzzi tub (also with seasonal reservoir views), a shower and a double vanity.

The other two bedrooms share a separate bathroom with a shower-tub combination and single vanity. One bedroom has a king bed, the other a queen bed and a small desk.

The large, open kitchen is perfect for entertaining, with two wall-ovens, a dishwasher, full refrigerator, and stove, plus an expansive countertop, cooking is truly a joy here. Here, too, the room is surrounded by windows and flooded with light. The half-bath off the kitchen is an added bonus.

For those traveling with extra guests, avalon farm also has a separate guest studio with a newly remodeled bath and a queen size sleeper sofa. The studio sits under a canopy of trees just off the kitchen and sunroom. For those telecommuting while on vacation, the studio might also serve as a quiet space in which to do work. The studio also makes a great locale for an in-home massage or private yoga instruction session. There’s plenty of room to set up the table or roll out the mats.

Those looking for a scenic hike couldn’t do better than the camelot trail. Located just a few feet from avalon farms, the trail wends its way through the woods, past two waterfalls, and ends at historic byrdcliffe colony. Take a tour of the artists’ studios or catch a play. Then make your way back home. The trail is gentle enough for seniors and young children alike. Avalon farm does not have a pool, but the local two swimming holes (both featured in the new york times) are less than 2 miles away, as are some free public tennis courts.

With its proximity to town, its updated heating and plumbing systems, clothes washer with two dryers, avalon farm makes a perfect family retreat.

Top of the world!

As another New Year's eve passed, full of all kinds of resolutions, my friends and I headed to Woodstock to start the New Year off right. Avalon Farm looked as if it would be big enough for us, but not so big that we'd be swamped by house. Boy, did we make a great choice! The house is almost at the top of Overlook Mountain. You feel like you're on top of the world. There are two hiking trails very nearby. One that's practically outside the door (and which is the better one of the two trails, in my opinion.) It was so nice to come home and build a roaring fire after the hike. The views of the reservoir are so peaceful! And it sort of makes you dream big! Which we did! Usually while cooking in that fantastic kitchen. Raye, the property manager, set us up with a massage therapist, and we each had a session out in the guest cottage. That was a real bonus! The rest of the group could continue yakking away while each one of us had our massage in the very peaceful guest cottage. Love all the trees around that place! We were a little worried that the house might be drafty (old farmhouse), but the heating systems have all been upgraded. We had to turn DOWN the thermostat upstairs, the heat was so efficient. Best of all, the owners have AMAZING taste. All the furnishings, and especially the art work, is incredible. It was so unbelievably tranquil here. Thank you, thank you! We'll be back in summer to try that swimming hole!
