1 bedroom + large loft, 1 bathroom, sleeps 4 comfortably (8 max).

Spend the month, week or weekend in a beautiful converted barn on 6.5 very private sunny country acres with park-like trails through 4 acres of old apple orchard and woodland. Why get a bed and breakfast when you can have a house and land all to yourself? This vacation rental is located in southwestern Vermont, less than 12 minutes from downtown Bennington (but still feels very quiet and secluded). Pick apples and bird-watch on the property. Excellent fly fishing on the nearby Battenkill river. Five major ski areas are located within an hour's drive. House is fully furnished and has slate shower, bear-claw bath tub, gas cooking stove, microwave, refrigerator, cable, DVD/VCR, and wireless internet, plus two wood stoves and free wood to keep you warm at night. There's a large downstairs master bedroom with its own gas stove/fireplace for ambiance and extra heat. There is a living room, dining area, and another small room that could sleep 2 with large electric blowup mattress on site. A spiral staircase leads up to a large loft with a spring mattress futon. The barnhouse was actually part of a large picturesque Vermont farm just up the dirt road (and view-able from parts of the property) until it was rolled down on logs and converted into a house some years ago.

Shaftsbury is nestled in the southwest corner of Vermont bordering Bennington and New York State. It is approximately a one hour drive from Albany NY and Pittsfield MA; four hours from Boston and NYC and 45 minutes to many ski resorts. Bennington Vermont is located just south of Shaftsbury and Manchester Vermont is 20 minutes north. Enjoy leisurely drives over dirt roads, peaceful hikes throughout our beautiful mountainsides, quiet lakes, bicycling, fall foliage, cross country skiing, snowmobiling and take a moment to discover its rich history.

  • $300/weekend, $700/wk, or $2000/mo
  • In addition to the per night charge, there is a one-time $90 cleaning fee. Well behaved pets are welcome for an extra $30 to cover the extra cleaning necessary when pets stay. A $500 refundable security deposit is required with an extra $100 per pet.(if pets are involved). You many purchase rental insurance through Homeaway for $49 (non-refundable) instead of putting down the security deposit. There is a 9% VT state room tax applied to the rental and cleaning fee if staying less than 1 month.

A clean and inviting place to stay for the whole family. Very secluded yet close to shopping or eating out. We saw several different types of wildlife. Lars answered all of o

The barn was everything my girlfriend and I were looking for for a weekend getaway. The land and the house were beautiful and Lars provided us with detailed directions and instructions for everything and even recommended a few hiking spots in the area that we took advantage of. Great experience all around.

We enjoyed our short stay in "the barn." The inside was interestingly but comfortably decorated and the views were fantastic. We enjoyed wandering through the apple orchard and although we didn't see any deer, we did see evidence that they had been there. The barn was very clean and well appointed for our needs, with a clear outline of how everything worked, including the wood stove(s). We really loved the surrounding areas - especially Bennington - and were sorry we had to move on. Hopefully we can return!

Relaxing, quiet, perfect

My husband and I had a fantastic stay at the Cozy Barn. The property and house are lovely and well maintained. Everything was clean and ready when we arrived. We spent most of the time at the house and lounging in the yard. We enjoyed exploring the pathways through the property and discovering hidden chair swings and picnic areas. It was great fun watching the deer roam through the backyard at dusk. Lars was a great host and very helpful. We will definitely be returning next year!!

If you are looking for an escape from the business of daily life, this is an excellent retreat. You'll leave relaxed and reinvigorated!
