COZY CONVERTED BARN ON SECLUDED 6.5 ACRES

Shaftsbury Barn Rental Photos and Description

1 bedroom + large loft, 1 bathroom, sleeps 4 comfortably (8 max).

Spend the month, week or weekend in a beautiful rustic converted barn on 6.5 very private sunny country acres with southerly long-range views of Mount Anthony and the Bennington Monument (Stays of 2 or more weeks are progressively discounted depending on the length of the stay). Wander the park-like trails through 4 acres of old apple orchard and woodland. Why get a bed and breakfast when you can have a house and land all to yourself? This vacation rental is located in southwestern Vermont, less than 12 minutes from downtown Bennington (but still feels very quiet and secluded). Pick apples, bird-watch, and view other wildlife like deer, grouse, wild turkeys, rabbits, and an occasional black bear that wanders through the property. Excellent fly fishing on the nearby Battenkill river. Attend the summer horse shows in nearby Manchester. Enjoy the world-famous Vermont fall foliage. Watch the flowers bloom in the spring. Enjoy a bon-fire in the back-yard. Five major ski areas are located within an hour's drive. House is fully furnished and has slate shower, bear-claw bath tub, gas cooking stove, microwave, refrigerator, cable, DVD/VCR, and wireless internet, plus two wood stoves and free wood to keep you warm at night (There's also central air heating if needed). There's a large downstairs master bedroom with its own gas stove/fireplace for ambiance and extra heat. There is a living room, dining area, and another small room that could sleep 2 with large electric blowup mattress on site. A spiral staircase leads up to a large loft with a spring mattress futon. The barnhouse was actually part of a large picturesque Vermont farm just up the dirt road (and viewable from parts of the property) until it was rolled down on logs and converted into a house some years ago.

He is a VERY avid skier who also enjoys camping, hiking, mountaineering, kite-surfing, watching the Minnesota Vikings, and spending time with his wife and children. Kristen teaches electronic engineering at the college level and is an avid wind surfer, hiker, and quickly improving skier.

Our family of three spent a wonderful and very relaxing week at the house. The property is very peaceful. The house has all the necessary amenities, but has a great rustic feel. We loved the gas fireplace in the bedroom! Our 4 year old daughter loved taking baths in the big tub. Bennington is a nice town and just down the road. We recommend Lively's Livery horse drawn wagon rides and the Bakkerij Krijnen bakery. Also loved looking for the many moose statutes in town.

What a lovely property!! My boyfriend and I wanted a place where we could just go and relax and this was it. Not only was the house immaculate and just as described but very comfortable and homey with lots of personal touches. Lars was beyond helpful and very accommodating every step of the way! The original stove was so cool and a little tricky but once we got used to it no problem. It was cozy and romantic and just what we needed. We also loved that as you walk through the trails on the property there are chairs and benches everywhere which must be wonderful int he summer. We will definitely be back! Thanks so much!!

The most divine and romantic getaway

I've dreamed of a red barn retreat for years and finally we had the chance to book this barn homeaway in Vermont and it truly was the most special place. From the moment of booking, Lars was responsive and so professional and friendly in every way. The place was so well maintained and so well situated for cafe stops and organic produce. We loved the big comfy chairs and bed and the gorgeous bath and all those great books to read and movies to watch! Lots of wood to build romantic fires and a view from every window that made me feel like we were living a dream. Soft falling snow as we remained cozy inside and a velvety silence outside to allow time to just be and to let everything s l o w down. We can't wait to return!!

Thanksgiving Holiday!

  • Submitted: Dec 9, 2013

We recently spent one week at the barn during Thanksgiving. It was an idyllic place, perfect for relaxing and spending time with family and friends. The barn was warm and cozy. It took very little effort to keep the wood stove going. I could see myself spending a month at the barn - hibernating with a pile of books and taking leisurely walks around the property. It was very comfortable to share with three teenage girls. They occupied the loft area and we had a bedroom to ourselves. Thanks you Lars!
