While I will admit the photos are of this house, that's where the accuracy of this listing ends. The pictures do not reflect the current condition of the home nor do they depict the stained and mismatched sheets and threadbare, worn out towels the home owner claims to have replaced per their response to a previous review. Not only did they not replace the linens and kitchen utensils, they clearly have not even opened the pot drawers as there were mouse droppings in them. This was after leaving the home the first day so cleaning people could be brought in because the house was filthy and the pool was green when we arrived. We spent our first night in a local hotel and would not have returned to the home at all except we were unable to find accomodations for our large party. So we had to make the best of it. We purchased all the new sheets, towels, pillows and cooking supplies we would need for our stay and made sure to spend as much time away from the home as possible. The home owner was difficult and unreasonable, and after agreeing to reimburse us $2000 for the five hotel rooms and the loss of a night in the home they then threatened not to release the funds if we posted a review of the home. I have provided all these details and more with my complaint to VRBO and as per their policy this review can be edited by the home owner if my claims are unsubstantiated or I am trying to threaten them with a poor review in order to get a refund. The exact oposite happened here, the home owner knew we were stranded and threatened to give us nothing if we posted a review. IF the home owners invested in a good cleaning crew, a conscientious manager, a reliable pool service, an exterminator, airconditioning (a portable unit with a six inch tube stuck out an open unscreened window is unacceptable), ALL new linens (matching cotton would be nice), and repaired or replaced the broken furniture, I would say a fair rental price would be $4500 maybe a bit more for Derby week if you are desperate. This is my sixth year renting from VRBO and this experience has taught me how impotant an honest and fair review is to perspective renters. VRBO cannot substantiate the home owners response to reviews so be warned they DID NOT do what they said they did in the last response to the reviews, and after personally dealing with them I seriously doubt they will do whatever they claim they will in repsonse to this review. I am limited to 2500 characters here or I could go on & on!
Owner's Response: Hello. I was out of the country and my managers had to deal with this group.
They had an expectations of Ritz-Carlton or at least Four Seasons, forgetting that they are renting a private home, unique home. My family, kids have lived in different parts of the world and my house has a specific atmosphere with our celebrity pictures and gifts, trophies for our guests to enjoy.
This group was given the opportunity to leave immideatly, as soon as they complained about my home and they did in fact leave. However they asked to return and were allowed to by my kind managers. We replaced and addressed all her issues immediately. I will not disclose the financial manipulations of this lady. I was shocked by her comments, as I have always received direct thank you cards and letters of appreciation from my guests for many years.
