We were looking for a place that was secluded and private, yet easy to reach for family and friends to come often. I grew up spending summers in the mountains of NY and always feel at home here . My husband and I envisioned something beautiful and found it here. With all the beauty and activities of the Hudson River, with our own woods and fields facing the mountains, it was a perfect spot.
My husband and I needed a weekend away and found this beautiful home. We invited another couple and the house was so spacious we could all work and hang out with plenty of quiet space.
We cooked gourmet meals together with all the utensils we needed. The house is filled with beautiful art, rustic antiques and a wonderfully comfortable living room with a glorious wood burning fireplace. We loved the hot tub under the stars. The bedrooms each had extremely comfortable queen beds, great linens, all overlooking the beautiful woods and foliage with the mountains beyond. We can't wait to go back. The owners were helpful when needed and completely non-intrusive. We had total privacy the whole time. Thank you for allowing us to share your beautiful home.
My husband and I recently stayed in this home for 4 nights. The house is beautiful, very large and clean, filled with beautiful antiques and original artwork. It was just the two of us, but we could envision the house as being very comfortable for a large family or a few friends getting together. We greatly enjoyed relaxing on the very private deck and swimming in the pool. There is also a large hot tub on the deck, but as we were lucky to have beautiful swimming weather during our stay, we stuck with the swimming pool. The house also has a front porch that also is very private as the house is set on a very large, well maintained property up a long driveway from the road. We enjoyed watching the visiting deer on the property and listening to the chirping birds.
I must admit that we were initially nervous about renting the home after reading the last review, although we were comforted by the fact that all the other reviews were very positive. We would now like to add our positive report to those others. The owner was very pleasant to deal with, and flexible in regards to some requests that we had. The owner also has taken the time to print up detailed information regarding the closest groceries and supermarkets as well as nearby sights and local attractions which is very helpful. There are also many pamphlets in the home about the local attractions. We also want to report that we did not have a problem receiving back our full security in a timely manner. We look forward to hopefully returning to the home for another vacation.
Six of us stayed at the house over MLK weekend. The house is spacious and has a great fireplace and a good sized kitchen. If my review were on the house alone, I would give it an average rating. The reason for the low rating is our interaction with the owners.
To start, the contract contained very odd restrictions (eg, do not raise the thermostat above 72 degrees or you may incur charges) and required us to pay an additional cleaning fee and VRBO insurance on top of a security deposit and the rental fee. We spoke with the owner, Judy, about the contract, but she reassured us that she was not as intense as the contract would lead one to believe and she would not nickel and dime us.
When we arrived, we were met with numerous signs instructing us that we were guests and were forbidden from opening certain cabinets and entering certain areas. It was the opposite of welcoming. One shower didn't have hot water and we had trouble getting the hot tub warm enough, but generally our stay was fine.
Before we left, we followed the multi-step instructions (including: stripping the beds and bringing linens to laundry room, emptying all trash cans and bringing the main trash can down to the street and making sure the hot tub was fine). The dishwasher had not cleaned our dishes from the night before, so we had to leave dishes in the sink to meet the mandatory 11:30 checkout. We had paid for additional cleaning services so thought this would not be a problem. Wrong.
Soon after we left, Judy called (she called us repeatedly after our stay had ended) and said we may be charged because the housekeeper stayed late to wash dishes. Further, the housekeeper had told Judy that a strap on the hot tub was broken (although she did not know if we broke it or if it was broken before we arrived), so this might also result in charges. Eventually Judy became convinced that it was us (presumably because she still had our security deposit). Initially, she wanted to charge us to replace the entire cover ($400), but after we resisted, she came up with her idea of an elegant solution. She decided she would charge us $150 to fix the strap.
Needless to say, we were incredibly frustrated. We spent multiple hours on the phone with her and responding to emails and frankly felt held hostage by the fact that she was withholding our deposit. We will not return.
Thank goodness this house was available for our crew (a last-minute stroke of good luck!) The house is big, clean and tastefully appointed. The master bedroom has an amazing bathroom with a massive tub and lovely shower. The 25' pool kept all our kids busy from sun up to sun down. Kitchen is roomy and good for multiple cooks in the kitchen. Outside is gorgeous and feels VERY private. Fantastic hand made swings hang from several trees. A really nice basketball hoop was fun, as was the professional-grade ping pong table. Really, something for everyone. If you want a roomy, quiet place to read, swim and drink wine on the deck, this is it. (Oh, and the weather rocked! Thanks weather!)
We stayed there for a week and had a wonderful time! This home is very private, comfortable, large and clean. The land is gorgeous and the kids loved running around the lawn and playing on the swings. We saw deer, turkeys and rabbits around the house every single day and lots of fireflies at night. We all enjoyed the large deck with the swimming poll and went many times to the creek for a quick swim and to look for fossils… And we did find some! The area has many attractions but we ended up spending most of the time enjoying the property. This was our second time there and we will definitely go back next year.
3 couples travelled to this lovely home for New Years gateway. This home is very nice, clean and kid friendly. Upstairs bedrooms are a nice size. Master bedroom is gorgeous. We very much enjoyed relaxing, outdoor hot tub and ping-pong table. We are hoping to come back again very soon.
