2 bedrooms and 2.5 baths with a wrap-around porch, large yard, and pond

This house is so charming, inviting and romantic! It is furnished with an eclectic assortment of antiques and very comfortable furniture that will make you feel right at home. The wrap around porch welcomes one with a view of the pond and rolling acreage beyond. Did I mention it sits on 67 acres! This will definitely be your favorite spot!

You are also surrounded by towering pines, beautiful gardens and horses grazing in the pasture. The house is secluded and safe for letting kids run around.

During the day, we encourage our guests to check out downtown McDade, TX. Other attractions are Winedale, Giddings, Bastrop, and Smithville, TX. These four towns also have great antique shops as well as tasty BBQ joints, fine restaurants, quaint downtown areas, and theater/art showcases. Roundtop Antique Festival is a huge attraction held in April and October. In the summer, Shakespeare at Winedale puts on two shows that run continuously over the weekends and are not to be missed. Live music can be found most weekend nights in these and other nearby small towns, and of course, Austin and all of its fun and attractions is less than an hour away

McDade, TX is located along HWY 290 less than an hour outside of Austin, TX (45 min. from the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport). Our house is located on private property and is just outside of McDade. McDade was originally a railroad and agricultural community with an unusually bloody past. It had more shootings, stabbings, and assassinations than Deadwood and Tombstone combined from 1875-1884. Nowadays, McDade is a sleepy community, which was recently the set of the miniseries 'True Women' based on the Janice Woods Wendle book. In the spring, the wildflowers color the hillsides blue and crimson red and indicate the start of a very active antiquing season. In the summer months, people eat ice cream and go swimming at one of the myriad of riverfront parks in Bastrop Co. The fall brings harvest season for many of the local farmers (keep an eye out for signs indicating weekend farmers' markets). And when the rest of the US is covered in ice and snow, we boast highs in the mid-60s.

Rental Rates for this vacation farmhouse rental in Bastrop, Texas

Cleaning $150

Payment is usually accepted in the quoted currency () unless the currency and the amount is specifically agreed in advance with the owner / advertiser.

Notes

  • $4,000 per week
  • We require a $200 deposit to hold the reservation. At the start of your rental period, the amount will be held as a safety deposit. We will return the full $200 as soon as we have verified that no damage occurred during your stay. If you are paying by check, we require half of your rental fee 60 days prior to the start of your reservation and the second half 30 days prior to the start of your reservation (gives us time to make sure that the checks clear). When you make a reservation, we will mail you a rental agreement with clear disclosure of terms. Please sign and sent it back with your deposit. As always, please call if you have any questions or concerns. We are amenable to other methods of payment, but we are still setting up the procedures.

Notes: Our beautiful, farm house retreat is located on our pond property in McDade, Texas outside of Bastrop County. This house is perfect for a visiting couple, or a family interested in exploring historic Central Texas and enjoying the outdoors. Our kitchen is furnished for light cooking, and the two bedrooms are extremely comfortable. The decor is very Anthropologie, with many charming found objects reflecting rural Texas. The wrap-around porch lets you relax and enjoy the cool country breezes.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Pond House. The house is beautifully decorated with thoughtful antiques and cozy places to sit. We came to town for a nearby Tough Mudder and it was my husband and myself, our kids and my parents. We all fit VERY comfortably here, with room to spread out and enjoy the peace and quiet.
We had friends come over for dinner, and we all fit comfortably on the outside wrap around porch. The new grill is fantastic, and all was appreciated. The kids ran around and played games outside for HOURS! It was memorable for everyone. The house was VERY clean and well-maintained.
We had a welcome basket awaiting our arrival with goodies for everyone. The beds were super comfortable.
Our weekend included a different set of weather every day, and it was easy to adjust. The first day was hot, so we left the air conditioning on, the second day we left the doors open (there are wonderful screen doors on every door) and enjoyed the cooling breeze, and the third day we used the heat!! Very comfortable.
We ate dinner one night in nearby Elgin at a BBQ place, and were pleased with the fare. And Austin really wasn't that far away at all.
The owners and everyone involved were very accommodating and made sure we enjoyed our stay to the fullest.
Everyone left the Pond House saying, "I would love to own a place like that someday" and "when are we coming back?!"

Definitely recommend! Thank you so much for our wonderful experience.
