WINTER RENTAL-FRESHLY RENOVATED BAR HARBOR HOME IN IDEAL QUITE DOWNTOWN LOCATION

Bar Harbor House Rental Photos and Description

3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 8

Be snug as a bug in this cozy home located in the hive of activity that is downtown Bar Harbor. The Honeybee house was built in the 1920’s in a year round residential cul de sac and was fully renovated in 2007 opening up the downstairs floor plan to a more functional and modern family style. Purchased in 2013 by Mountain Sea Properties, we updated the home with new furniture, new linens, and fresh paint colors.

New to the vacation rental market, this fully renovated downtown home features an exceptional location in the heart of Bar Harbor within walking distance to all downtown restaurants, shops, supermarket and amenities including the main hub of the island wide free bus system allowing for a car free vacation. Walk to the local bike shop to rent bikes and ride directly into Acadia National Park. Pack a lunch and walk straight to the dock where your whale watching excursion boat departs. Grab the kids and walk downtown for an ice cream. Or enjoy that special dinner with family and friends with out that hassle squeezing everyone in a car and finding parking.

About Jennifer Wales

Adam and Jen have a deep love and understanding of the natural beauty surrounding the Acadia/Mount Desert Island area. Jen grew up summers on Long Pond and Adam on a 110-acre farm in Western Maine adjoining the Appalachian Trail. They met here in Bar Harbor working as sea kayak guides in the summer of 1993.

Over the years, they have hiked, biked, paddled, and sailed every conceivable route on and around Mount Desert. Adam completed his goal of hiking every trail on the Island in the summer of 1994 and Jen authored The Sea Kayaker's Guide to Mount Desert Island published by Down East Books in 1997. Together they paddled the Maine Island Trail, a 175-mile 28-day kayaking trip from Portland to Machias, up the entire Maine coastline.

In the summer of 2000, Jen and Adam started Mountain Sea Properties with a single house, Eagle Cliff, where they were married that same summer. The owner had approached them expressing her frustration renting the home through larger rental operations on the island. She complained that her house was one of hundreds represented so the service she received was minimal. She also stated that those who rented the house were not as well informed as they could be. The tenants were also one of hundreds and the service they received was minimal.

Adam and Jen offered to represent the house committing to providing top quality service to both owners and tenants by representing a limited number of houses and providing personalized vacation services.

Since then, Mountain Sea Properties has grown along with the Wales family. As year-round members of the Island’s community, Adam and Jen are dedicated to the vitality of the people of Mount Desert Island. Thus, each year they donate a portion of their proceeds to local organizations devoted to sustaining the beauty and well-being of the Mount Desert Island area.

Walkable location + Pottery Barn aesthetic!

  • 5 of 5
My family of 4 really enjoyed this cottage. (We had one unused bedroom, so it could easily work for a couple more.) First, the Pottery Barn colors and linens are much better than average cottage fare. If aesthetics matter to you, you'll like Honeybee. Second, it's walkable to a well-stocked and very competitively priced Hannaford. When we have vacationed on islands in the past, we pay a premium for food that is shipped from the mainland and is past its prime. The Hannaford was so convenient, we could decide what we wanted to eat and have it in-house within 15 minutes. Third, since we did a lot of adventuring -- stand-up paddleboarding, sea-kayaking, rock climbing, etc. -- we wanted to be right in the hub of activity. Because of the central location, we spent more time doing and less time driving around Bar Harbor and trying to park. We could also walk to great restaurants. You should know that Honeybee does not currently have outdoor seating. A bluestone patio with a dining table and chairs and/or a couple Adirondack chairs would be nice. They may add that in the future. It also doesn't have a view. But, if what you're looking for is cheerful, livable, comfortable, centrally located, and quiet, this cottage is a good bet.

Owner's Response: Melissa, I never even looked at Pottery Barn but I think your description of the colors is right on! You're description is just what I think of for the Honeybee House: 1) really comfortable and relaxed but new, fresh, clean and crisp 2) very convenient from the grocery store, restaurants and shopping right in Bar Harbor but quite on a small one-way side street. Thanks for your feedback about outdoor seating, we have actually added two wicker couches and a coffee table on the sunny inclosed front porch and an outdoor dining set on the back porch by the grill since you left. Hope to see you again- Jen Wales, Mountain Sea Properties

Spent a Happy week here.

  • 4 of 5
Two couples shared this lovely home. It is so centrally located, we could walk to just about everywhere in Bar Harbor.
The house is roomy and furnished nicely. The front garden is beautiful and true to it's name with lots of honey bees and hummingbirds. A raspberry bush in back was full of ripe raspberries every day.
The manager provided good customer service and was very helpful and accommodating.
The interior of The Honey Bee House has all been recently refurbished so you have the charm of an older home with a new kitchen and bathrooms. We would definitely return to this home, its great. I have already recommended it to a friend.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much Bonnie. I searched for 6 years to find what I considered the ideal downtown Bar Harbor rental and finally found this wonderful house. It didn't even make it onto the market as I was able to find it word of mouth. You really touch of what I feel are the benefits of this property: it's so close in town but on a very small quite street, it is a historic classic Bar Harbor house build in the early 1900's yet renovated in 2007 and then again by myself as the new owner in 2014 giving a modern yet traditional layout of the interior with new fresh and clean decorating, furniture and supplies. And yes, the flowers are to die for! Jen Wales-Mountain Sea Properties
