Therese Potgieter purchased this house in 2013
The de Waterkant area has a unique character, that has its own story to tell its also some of the oldest buildings in Cape Town dating back to the 1700's. So it contains a little bit about South Africa's heritage. It's cosy and private, with an amazing view
- The house itself: Newly refurbished
- Downstairs wooden deck with jacuzzi
- Main bedroom with terrace view of Harbour / Ocean
- Roof Deck with full view of Table Mountain and Harbour / Ocean
( I want to give this place 5 stars but the website won't allow it!?)
Stayed here for two weeks in January 2014, with partner although I think this is a great place for a small family as well. The location if superb e.g. with restaurants just around the corner, the city center and V&A Waterfront within walking distance. There is also a supermarket approximately 5 minutes walk away (Cape Quarter Shopping Mall) if you want to cook at the premises.
The layout and design of the property is brand new and done up to a very high standard. The views are glorious. Outside is a lovely jacuzzi so we spent s few evenings in this with some bubbly watching the sunset.
The property is well maintained e.g. fresh towels & cleaning service daily. The property is situated in a very quiet street yet is still so close to the hustle and bustle of the city.
For what you get, the price is a steal, we will definitely stay here again - it was lovely thank you.
I can't fault De Waterkant Cottage at all! Upon arrival I found the trip from the airport very enjoyable and it really doesn't take long to get there.
It's situated right by the V&A Waterfront which is great, they have all kinds of bars and restaurants right there no need to go too far. I enjoy swimming and being clsoe to Green Point you can go and swim in the Lido which is basically a public open-air swimming pool but right next to the beach!
We loved the feel of the house it just made me feel at home! We had some great times in the jaccuzi and the views from the rooftop was breathtaking.
I think it's great value for money and would reccomend it to anyone wanting to go over and visit! Can't wait to come back
Cape Town is just absolutely beautiful having lived there for a year it is most definitely a place to visit. The things I enjoy most about CT is:
Cape Town is most certainly one of the places that must be visited, for its Nature, Culture and vibrance.
5mins away: Climb up Lions Head. Sea kayaking by Kazkazi Kayaks. Paragliding from Lions Head. Green Market
15 Mins away: Clifton Beaches & Camps Bay
20 Mins away: Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens offers amazing walking routes. Also hosts live concerts on Sundays! Wind Surfing on Blouberg Strand.
30 Mins away: Horseback riding on Noord Hoek beach by Sleepy Hollow Horse Back riding. Nude Beaches
40mins away: Many spectacular wine farms to go wine tasting ( Tokara, Delaire Graff & Kleine Zalse).
40mins Away: The Cape Agullas, visit the Southern most tip of Africa
40mins away: Robben Island visit Nelson Mandela's once prison cell.
Furthermore, the food is superb. Cape Town has many an amazing restaurant these are our favourites: Carne, Savoy Cabbage, La Perla, La Colombe, Harbour House Kalkbay, Sevruga, Beluga, Deer Park Eatery, Paranga, to name a few.
De Waterkant Village itself is very locally situated with the Cape Quarter 3mins walk away here you will find clothing boutiques, a high quality super market as well as clubs, restaurants and bars in the area. Its an good idea to just relax in the area for a few days.
For shopping the Waterfront has most designer brands as well as local stores and crafts. Green Market Square is an excellent choice to get a feel for African arts as well as a sense of what the inner city is like. The Biscuit Mill in Woodstock is a favourite amongst locals. Kloof Street also boasts with a series of artsy and concept stores.
Be sure to book some shows. Kirstenbosch Botanical has a live band every Sunday. The Fugard Theatre never disappoint with brilliant productions. Visit www.computicket.com to see what's going on.
For those who would like to venture out, Shark Cave Diving is 2 hours away in Gansbay. Safari trips are 3 hours away near to Worchester there are many more small interesting towns to visit such as Hermanus and Greyton.
