38 loader is situated in the de waterkant area of cape town cbd. The de waterkant area consists of many similar cottages and has been registered as a south african heritage site. Historically the area was believed to be constructed by slaves of the 17th century with some cottages dating back to 1760. It was historically part of the colorful bo-kaap separated by strand street, resulting in its evolving unique style.
Its centrality provides easy access to local amenities by foot or car. The nearest beaches are clifton and camps bay which are about a 15min drive away. The cape quarter, is just a minutes walk away, where one can find boutiques, café’s as well as do shopping for essentials.
I am from South Africa and my partner is Austrian. We are currently living in Vienna, Austria. We are crazy about Cape Town, and visit as often as we can. I used to live in Cape Town and consider it to be one of the best cities to visit in the world.
We wanted to buy a property in Cape Town, but didn't just want a commercialized flat in a building, neither did we want a house. The de Waterkant area has a unique character, that has its own story to tell its also some of the oldest buildings in Cape Town dating back to the 1700's. So it contains a little bit about South Africa's heritage.
Its location makes it very central to most main points in Cape Town as well as many restaurants, bars and boutiques in the area. Its also very quiet and provides a good space to 'chill out'
We completely redid the house in 2013, we spent a period of nearly 7 months in getting it completely perfect to a European standard.
- The house itself: Newly refurbished
- Downstairs wooden deck with jacuzzi
- Main bedroom with terrace view of Harbour / Ocean
- Roof Deck with full view of Table Mountain and Harbour / Ocean

Furthermore, the food is superb. Cape Town has many an amazing restaurant these are our favourites: Carne, Savoy Cabbage, La Perla, La Colombe, Harbour House Kalkbay, Sevruga, Beluga, Deer Park Eatery, Paranga, to name a few.
De Waterkant Village itself is very locally situated with the Cape Quarter 3mins walk away here you will find clothing boutiques, a high quality super market as well as clubs, restaurants and bars in the area. Its an good idea to just relax in the area for a few days.
For shopping the Waterfront has most designer brands as well as local stores and crafts. Green Market Square is an excellent choice to get a feel for African arts as well as a sense of what the inner city is like. The Biscuit Mill in Woodstock is a favourite amongst locals. Kloof Street also boasts with a series of artsy and concept stores.
Be sure to book some shows. Kirstenbosch Botanical has a live band every Sunday. The Fugard Theatre never disappoint with brilliant productions. Visit www.computicket.com to see what's going on.
