Great Value for a Comfortable Stay in Paris
Two couples comfortably and enjoyably spent 8 nights at this apartment.
There is a lot to like. To start with, it's one of the few legitimate 2 bedroom-2 bathroom properties we found available in central Paris, with both bathrooms ensuite and of a decent size. The bedrooms are not big, but serve well - reasonably comfortable beds, sufficient room for a wardrobe.
The living area is very functional, OK for 4 people, but not too many more. We used the kitchen a couple of times and did not find anything lacking in terms of utensils, pots/pans, dishes.
The wireless internet connection was great - we had multiple devices connected at the same time and the performance was very decent. Satellite TV was OK, we wish there was a better selection of the English-language non-news channels. On the other hand, the DVD library provided by the owner is pretty extensive and up-to-date, so that makes it better.
When we were booking, we thought we were trading off - greater convenience/comfort for the less central, more residential location. True, northern 16th district might not have the charm of the 7th or history of the 1st, but we found ourselves loving it. It's a 3 minute walk to Trocadero square, which is the observation spot for Eiffel Tower. The Trocadero metro stop is at the intersection of 2 lines that get you to most Paris attractions with 1 transfer tops. Five more minutes walking gets you to the Champs De Mars RER station with direct trains to Versailles (or D'Orsay & Notre Dame going the other way). Nearby cool restaurants are few, but there are decent options: the restaurants around Trocadero Square may be touristy and a bit overpriced, but we had good food and courteous service. Bistro Scheffer, almost around the corner from the apartment is a very nice example of a traditional Parisian bistro, red-white checkered table cloths and great food. If you prefer to stay in, there is a supermarket just down the street, great bakeries, butcher, cheese, and wine shops a mild walk away.
To bring it all together: combine a comfortable, well-equipped apartment in tasteful modernist style, with a location that I think accomodates almost any desired type of stay in Paris, subtract the residential, less-trendy quality of the neighborhood (if that's a big deal for you), then add the very competitive price (without hidden/fine print add-on fees) and you get a great value. When I go back, I am not looking elsewhere.
