We purchased this home in the spring of 2013 and are in the process of doing some renovations. It is not perfect but it is large, comfortable and located on a beautiful piece of property overlooking Portage Lake. This 3,200 square foot ranch home features four bedrooms, four bathrooms and two large living areas. It can comfortably accommodate two families with kids, three or four couples or five singles privately. For entertainment the home has a puzzle table, tons of games, books & DVD's, a pool table, a ping pong table, large screen TV with Apple TV and WiFi.
Portage Lake is an all-sport lake that is connected to Lake Michigan through a channel. Portage lake is great for sailing, fishing, motorized and non-motorized boating, swimming and watching the sunset.
Home is located 5 miles North of the Little River Casino. In the winter it is about 45 minutes from Caberfae Peaks and 30 minutes from Crystal Mountain for skiing, close to snowmobile & cross country ski trails, on a great lake for ice fishing and close to many charming towns filled with wonderful restaurants and shops. In the summer is is close to many great Lake Michigan Beaches and within 30 minutes of many quaint waterfront towns & villages, wineries, antique shops, art galleries, hiking trails and museums. Less than 30 minutes from amazing golf courses, including Arcadia Bluffs (9 miles away), Manistee National (15 miles) and the Heathlands (less than 1/2 mile). About an hour drive to the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore or Traverse City. There is so much to do in this area!
Towels, linens and basic paper products are provided. All bathrooms have basic toiletries for your convenience. Guests are welcome to use spices and condiments but please replace anything that you use all of. All mattresses and pillows are new and encased in a hypoallergenic covers.
My husband and I live in the Grand Rapids area with our youngest daughter and Chocolate lab. Our oldest daughter lives in Colorado with her Alaskan Malamute. We are both Michigan natives and love the state we live in!
Angela & David purchased this cottage in 2013
When we were younger and newly married we rented a little tiny cabin located next the launch and park in town. We fell in love with the lake and the area and vowed that one day we would have a place of our own. In May of 2013 that dream came true!
Thank you so much for sharing your lake home! We had a great time and enjoyed exploring the area!! Can't wait to return next summer!!!
Angela and Dave-thank you for allowing us to rent your beautiful home. It was very clean and tastefully decorated. We really enjoyed the rec room and your amazing yard. It was such a great vacation. We hope to get back there again and I will definitely recommend it to friends and family.
Thanks- Jen and Joe
Very nice place with a great deal of space / ammenities. Water access on an in-land lake with direct connection to Lake Michigan is a huge plus. Pool table, ping pong and a spacious floor plan enabled everyone to relax, play games, read, etc.
Close proximity to Arcadia Bluffs and other top-notch golf facilities as well as several towns for dining, shopping, groceries, etc. was very convenient.
Big yard allowed the kids to play many games right outside the house which was very convenient as well.
This house has so much room! We had 3 families that comprised of 5 adults, three teenagers and 3 little kids. The kitchen is fully equipt so making meals was a breeze when we didn't want to go out. The bedrooms are spaced throughout the home which made it nice for sleeping (didn't have to hear snoring from another room, etc). What I loved the best is that in the living room off the kitchen area was a lovely quiet spot to do jigsaw puzzles, the kitchen and dining area were great gathering spots for playing cards or general socializing and the big rec room was attractive to the kids and was far enough away from the previously mentioned other two areas to allow the kids to play ping pong, board games, laser tag and such without the adults having to hear the ruckus! The channel right out of the back door was great for watching birds and swans as well as docking the jet skiis that were launched at a nearby public launch. The dunes and beaches were beautiful and fun and the restaurants were tasty and close! The owners were very helpful in guiding us where to go for dinners and fun. It was a fabulous vacation and we will surely stay again!!
Lovely setting ! Well stocked. Everything you needed was there to insure a great stay. We would love to go back again.
Home is less than an hour from the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes National Lake Shore.
