ALASKA MOUNTAINVIEW CABINS (CHALET) NEAR MORGAN'S LANDING, KENAI RIVER

Sterling House Rental Photos and Description

House, 5 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 2-14)

LARGE, CUSTOM HOME WITH HUGE DECK AND FANTASTIC MOUNTAIN AND FOREST VIEWS!! Welcome! We invite you to our custom made post and beam home. Designed and constructed by master builder Gregory Corse, this architecturally stunning home will provide a comfortable and inspiring retreat for your fishing and wilderness adventures. PERFECT FOR LARGE FAMILY GATHERINGS, the house was built using centuries old techniques from the German master builders. The 40' vaulted ceiling of the great room boasts incredible hand-hewn beam and joinery work, with a cascading wall of windows overlooking rich green forests and stunning glacial capped mountains.

The house is divided into TWO rentals, the Chalet (upper) and Hide-A-Way (lower), each one with full kitchen and living area. The Chalet has 3 bedrooms with 2 full baths. The Hide-A-Way has 2 bedrooms with 2/3 bath (shower/no tub). Large groups will want to rent the entire house for absolute comfort at a reduced rate. Smaller groups can rent either space and are assured of privacy, as each unit has a separate entrance and is well insulated between floors. The Hide-A-Way boasts an impressive custom made rock wall fireplace built over 40 years ago by the original property homesteader and well known artist and wood turner, Donald 'Rip' Skuse.

Situated on 9 acres of beautifully forested land, this house is just a THREE-MINUTE drive or 15-minute walk from the world famous Kenai River at Morgan's Landing State Park headquarters where you can fish from the bank. Located in Sterling on the Kenai Peninsula, Soldotna (shops, dining, laundry, movies, etc) is just a 15-minute drive away. Day trips to Homer or Seward for saltwater fishing, glacier fjord tours, art/crafts/artifacts shopping and amazing seafood dining are just 1.5 hours away. Whitewater rafting, hiking, mountain biking and canoeing are all within 20 to 45 minutes away.

From the Chalet enjoy midnight sun BBQs on the large deck after a hard day's fishing. You can relax here with friends while watching eagles, hawks, and loons soar in the valley below. Early morning coffee on the deck may also offer views of moose as they wander across the property. The Hide-A-Way also has a covered patio at ground level with partial views. Guests from both units can enjoy the outdoor firepit and sitting area for meeting new friends and sharing stories of your Alaskan adventures.

Each unit is well appointed with a fully equipped kitchen, comfortable furnishings, and quality bedding/towels, and outdoor BBQ. Guests have access to the storage shed with 2 adult mountain bikes and a variety of children's bikes. There are also a variety of fishing poles, nets and other items which can be utilized. Both the Chalet and Hide-A-Way have access to freezer space for your fish catch, but there is a strict NO FISH CLEANING policy on the property so as not to attract bears.

This property has been in my family since 1979. Having grown up in Alaska, I understand and appreciate what a unique experience The Great Land can offer and I hope to share that with you. My parents ran a successful tourism business here for over 15 years, and my husband I took over the property in 2011. The Chalet is our personal vacation home, and we look forward to coming home each summer from our work overseas. It is the only remaining tourism rental on the property; the other log cabins are now long-term rentals only. My young children especially love exploring the property, playing in the 'magic garden', feeding the chickens, and evening trips to the Kenai River to watch the fishermen reel in their catch.

Alaska is a wonderland of natural beauty and amazing resources, which our family has spent generations protecting through conservation efforts. We welcome you to our home where you too can become a 'Sourdough' and share in this unique experience. The home is available year round. Winter travelers will be rewarded with an incredible show of colorful northern lights and millions of stars in the dark Arctic night. Nearby winter activities include cross-country skiing, ice fishing, snowmobiling, and hot beverage drinking! Summer guests will be rewarded with midnight sun, vast and expansive views, solitude, wildlife, and world-class salmon and halibut fishing. WELCOME!!

Raised in Alaska...this property was our family homestead. We lived a subsistance lifestyle here...which I didn't fully appreciate until I was grown up! Now I live and work overseas, but Alaska, and this property, will always be our home. I work in international conservation, and growing up in Alaska gave me a real appreciation for protecting our planet's most amazing natural places...this area being one of them!

Juniper Neill purchased this house in 1979

We chose to take over the family property in 2011 as we just couldn't imagine it not being part of our lives. I hope my children will experience some of what I did growing up. We look forward to coming home every year from our adventures in Africa and Asia.

We love to BBQ on the large back deck, overlooking the forest and distant mountain range. Nothing but trees for hundreds of miles! What a view! It's a great way to relax and just reconnect with your family in a quiet and peaceful place.

ABSOLUTE PERFECTION!!!

  • 5 of 5
My family of 10 (ranging in age 5 thru 80) rented both the chalet & hideaway for a few days. I have not one negative thing to say! This house is absolutely beautiful. There's beautiful artwork everywhere but not like a museum where you're afraid to touch anything or move too quickly---it's so warm and cozy!!! We honestly could have just stayed at the home all day, everyday! We enjoyed the beautiful views from the house, rooms and deck. All the beds were very comfy and warm! The only negative I can think of is that we didn't have time to enjoy the fire pit. We were so busy fishing at the nearby Morgan's landing and running around between homer and kenai and soldotna. This is the perfect area to make home base if you plan to play between homer and seward and kenai areas. Juniper (the homeowner) is great with communication and is sooo personable. Wish I could give you a hug juniper---to say thank you for sharing your beautiful home!!! Shae (the home's caretaker) was so NICE and helpful. We knew that if we needed any assistance or had questions, she'd be easily contacted and was easy to find. We had no worries whatsoever! LOVE LOVE LOVE this home and it will be my first choice when we come back!!! You have to book early though, it books up quick!!!!

FANTASTIC VACATION HOME!

  • 5 of 5
I really can hardly think of enough nice things to say about this property. Everything was perfect -- no negatives. Great communication from the owner. Very spacious and comfortable. We've never stayed in such a clean, nicely maintained and gorgeous cabin. It actually felt like we were staying in the home of good friends rather than a vacation rental. The kitchen was stocked with every utensil and appliance you would ever need. Our young children were delighted to find lots of toys and books. The satellite TV and internet worked flawlessly, which is not often the case in a vacation cabin. The location is central to explore all of the Kenai Peninsula. Our family of five (twin 7-year-olds and 11-year-old) were so comfortable and happy with our stay that we hated to leave. This would be a great pace for family reunion or larger group. Hopefully we will be back some day. I highly recommend this property!

PERFECT KENAI GETAWAY

  • 5 of 5
Serene, clean, comfortable, excellent views and plenty of things to do in the area......I have found this to be the perfect Alaskan getaway. In the past, I have only stayed in Homer or Seward, but I was pleasantly surprised at how much there is to do in the surrounding area. We spent time in Homer and went with the Danny J to explore around the Halibut Cove area, we went canoeing at Skilak lake, hiked around the area, and enjoyed having so many options of things to do during our stay. Then, d at the end of each day, we could come back to the comfort of Mountainview Chalet.

I also appreciated not having to pack all of the extras, I found your kitchen and accommodations well stocked with many of the essentials that we normally need to pack while staying at other vacation spots. Thank you for sharing with us your lovely home.

MULTI GENERATION

  • 5 of 5
We loved Alaska Mountain view cabins and the location was perfect. We had 11 people, three generations ranging from 7-77 and rented the entire house and loved everything about it, especially the fire pit, kitchen and deck. The home is beautifully constructed and enjoyable to be in. It was centrally located on the Kenai peninsula and we were able to do day trips to Seward, Homer and went several times to Cooper's landing. Grocery store and restaurants were close. Everyone we encountered in Alaska was very friendly and helpful.

ALASKA WEDDING VACATION!

  • 5 of 5
Our family stayed here for 10 days, during the best summer Alaska has seen in years! Our house was amazingly cozy and very Alaskan! It's beautifully handcrafted and has the most breathtaking views of the mountains and the valley. It was so nice to wake up and drink coffee to that view every morning. The lawn and landscaping was very beautiful and kept up nicely. The grounds keeper and the owners were very easy to get a hold of. The house had everything we needed, and lots of space! The kids room even has black out shades, which helped them get to sleep due to the long hours of summer sun. The house is about 10 minutes from the main town, it was away from the crowd but not annoyingly far away. The house was reasonably priced and the owners made an extra effort to accommodate a few last minute guest. They allowed us to park a small R.V. on the property. The owners are very polite and VERY accommodating, we will definitely be back!

The description was accurate and more to our surprise. The photos did not do it justice, it was beautiful!!! The property was well maintained, clean, like we were at our home, probably better. The care taker was at the home when we arrived. She made us feel welcomed and explained were bikes, fishing equipment was stored, and were the trash bin was located, very helpful. All my relatives and friends will hear about the house. Homer.
