Welcome! We invite you to our custom made post and beam home. Designed and constructed by master builder Gregory Corse, this architecturally stunning home will provide a comfortable and inspiring retreat from your fishing and wilderness adventures. The Chalet was built using centuries old techniques from the German master builders. The 40' vaulted ceiling of the great room boasts incredible hand-hewn beam and joinery work, with a cascading wall of windows overlooking rich green forests and stunning glacial capped mountains.
The house is divided into TWO rentals, the Chalet (upper) and Hide-A-Way (lower), each one with full kitchen and living area. The Chalet has 3 bedrooms with 2 full baths. The Hide-A-Way has 2 bedrooms with 2/3 bath (shower/no tub). Large groups will want to rent the entire house for absolute comfort at a reduced rate. Smaller groups can rent either space and are assured of privacy, as each unit has a separate entrance and is well insulated between floors. The Hide-A-Way boasts an impressive custom made rock wall fireplace built over 40 years ago by the original property homesteader and well known artist and wood turner, Donald 'Rip' Skuse.
Situated on 9 acres of beautifully forested land, this house is just a THREE-MINUTE drive or 15-minute walk from the world famous Kenai River at Morgan's Landing State Park headquarters where you can fish from the bank. Located in Sterling on the Kenai Peninsula, Soldotna (shops, dining, laundry, movies, etc) is just a 15-minute drive away. Day trips to Homer or Seward for saltwater fishing, glacier fjord tours, art/crafts/artifacts shopping and amazing seafood dining are just 1.5 hours away. Whitewater rafting, hiking, mountain biking and canoeing are all within 20 to 45 minutes away.
From the Chalet enjoy midnight sun BBQs on the large deck after a hard day's fishing. You can relax here with friends while watching eagles, hawks, and loons soar in the valley below. Early morning coffee on the deck may also offer views of moose as they wander across the property. The Hide-A-Way also has a covered patio at ground level with partial views. Guests from both units can enjoy the outdoor firepit and sitting area for meeting new friends and sharing stories of your Alaskan adventures.
Each unit is well appointed with a fully equipped kitchen, comfortable furnishings, and quality bedding/towels, and outdoor BBQ. Guests have access to the storage shed with 2 adult mountain bikes and a variety of children's bikes. There are also a variety of fishing poles, nets and other items which can be utilized. Both the Chalet and Hide-A-Way have access to freezer space for your fish catch, but there is a strict NO FISH CLEANING policy on the property so as not to attract bears.
This property has been in my family since 1979. Having grown up in Alaska, I understand and appreciate what a unique experience The Great Land can offer and I hope to share that with you. My parents ran a successful tourism business here for over 15 years, and my husband I took over the property in 2011. The Chalet is our personal vacation home, and we look forward to coming home each summer from our work overseas. It is the only remaining tourism rental on the property; the other log cabins are now long-term rentals only. My young children especially love exploring the property, playing in the 'magic garden', feeding the chickens, and evening trips to the Kenai River to watch the fishermen reel in their catch.
Alaska is a wonderland of natural beauty and amazing resources, which our family has spent generations protecting through conservation efforts. We welcome you to our home where you too can become a 'Sourdough' and share in this unique experience. The home is available year round. Winter travelers will be rewarded with an incredible show of colorful northern lights and millions of stars in the dark Arctic night. Nearby winter activities include cross-country skiing, ice fishing, snowmobiling, and hot beverage drinking! Summer guests will be rewarded with midnight sun, vast and expansive views, solitude, wildlife, and world-class salmon and halibut fishing. WELCOME!!
