This 35-acre property includes a grand log chalet situated at 8900 feet above sea level.
The top floor, one large room with a vaulted ceiling, boasts picture windows facing the Gore Range. The wood burning stove generously heats this level. A propane furnace provides additional heat for the whole house. The living room area has several couches (one of which is a sofa-sleeper) and a sky chair. The dining table seats 10 people. The kitchen is large and well equipped with counter space for preparing sizable meals. There is also a half-bathroom on this floor.
On the middle level there are four bedrooms, which sleep 8 (2 queens, 1 double and 2 singles that may be combined to make a king). There is a full bathroom with shower/bathtub on this floor.
This is a kid friendly property equipped with toys, books, movies, entertainment system with satellite radio and a ping-pong table.
A large solar system provides most of the heat and hot water for a reduced carbon footprint. There is propane and electricity for the utilities. Laundry facilities are available on the bottom level if needed.
The deck wraps around 2/3 of the upper level for sunbathing, bird watching, sunrise and sunset viewing. There is a propane grill on the deck for convenient outdoor cooking. In addition, you can enjoy meals on the deck at a wooden picnic table. Just below the house is a fire ring and additional picnic table for cookouts.
From the hammock on the deck you can view the Gore Range, Green Mountain Reservoir, and the Williams Fork Range. Deer, elk, and fox are common visitors. Nightfall brings stargazing and the occasional coyote chorus. Songbirds, hummingbirds, eagles, and hawks are often seen.
In winter, the chalet's location is ideal for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and excellent sledding. Alpine skiing and snowboarding are available at Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Keystone and A-Basin, all within an hour. Vail, Steamboat Springs, and Winter Park are each about 2 hours away. There is Gold Medal fishing on the Colorado and Blue Rivers, and belly-boating on Cataract Lake. The chalet is surrounded by aspens, so the fall is an exceptional time to visit. There is access to various wilderness areas for sportsmen looking for a comfortable base.
Lower Cataract Lake is a short drive away during the summer months. When there is snow, it can be reached with snowshoes or cross-country skis via the road. A number of trail-heads begin in that area for day hikes or camping. The wild flowers are spectacular in spring and summer and the aspen foliage is golden in the fall. The cataract itself is also worth exploring.
The location is solitary, serene and private on 35 acres of woodland and sage brush meadows with wildlife as your nearest neighbors.
Well behaved pets are welcome.
Please don't smoke inside.
This is a perfect property for a small family get-together or a place to return to after a day of hiking, fishing or hunting.

We designed and built this chalet, using standing dead lodge pole logs. Our 4 children grew up using this place many times a year, summer and winter. We are now retired, and the children are married and living scattered around the country. We come here about twice a month, bringing our dog and 2 cats with us.
Jason Gilman purchased this cabin in 1980
We built the chalet as our vacation retreat, and now would like to share it with others.
Solitude, serenity, love of the mountains, and enjoyment of the wildlife.
The cabin met and exceeded all of our expectations. It was perfect for a small group of 20-somethings looking to get away from it all while on break from graduate school. Half of us commuted to A-Basin to ski for three days (about 50 min), and the other half hung around the cabin and enjoyed the great weather we were having in mid-March.
There are some great trails near the cabin that would also be great in the summer. There was also plenty of things to do and plenty of space in the cabin to entertain yourselves if you were to get stuck in the cabin for some reason.
We were also glad to have four-wheeled-drive during this time of year as it was getting pretty sloppy on the road getting up to the cabin.
Overall, it was a great stay. We can't wait to go back.
The home was absolutely beautiful, clean, and at a very responsible price! it exceeded expectations. Communication was easy and fast. There are no negatives. Would recommend to everyone and definitly will be repeat customers!
I recently rented the chalet/cabin with family (6 ~30yo adults + dog), and had a wonderful time. It has a great layout and is located on a beautiful, secluded piece of land with truly amazing views. Booking was easy, communication was thorough, and the house (incl. kitchen) was very well appointed. The other reviewers have listed the many, many more positives of this place so I won't bother doing so again. I can't think of any negatives. We all had a wonderful stay and hope to make it back again soon.
We just got back from staying at this home for 4 days! What a great experience! It was very easy to book, payments were easily handled and communication was great! You will not find better views anywhere. We had a deer and her fawn pass by every morning and were visited by lots of entertaining hummingbirds! Just a mile up the road are trail heads and lake. We hiked up to Surprise Lake then on to Upper Cataract Lake. Beautiful! We also enjoyed fishing nearby in the Blue River. A couple nights we headed into town for dinner. We recommend The Dam Brewery (patio) in Dillon and we went for Pizza in Frisco that are our favorites. We had our golden retrievers with us and it worked out great for them also. You can't go wrong! Oh, did I mention the fire ring by the house that was fun too! We give it five STARS
We spent four days here and love every minute. The cabin was spotless, beautiful and had everything we needed and more. The owners left detail information every where which help us. The view was breath taking. We had late night games at the table. We will for sure use the cabin again.
We had a wonderful family reunion here with nine adults and a dog. The house was just as described: clean, well organized, stocked full of staples, and in a gorgeous location. And you can't beat the price! We had a lovely dinner on the deck one night, enjoyed the hammock, played horseshoes, had a campfire at the outdoor fire ring, and enjoyed two days of boating -- one at the reservoir, and one on nearby beautiful Cataract Lake. The owners were very easy to work with and responsive throughout the process. Our only complaint is that the walls on the middle floor, where the bedrooms are, were a bit thin. But, that's nothing that can't be fixed by setting up a fan or bringing earplugs. We definitely hope to stay here again!
