Wildlife, Scenery, Comfort--Ranks First!!!

My husband and I spent 24 days in Alaska on a self-planned trip. We stayed in 8 different lodgings. The Lucky Loon was tops on our list! It was a place we could breathe and enjoy Alaskan wildlife, feel at home in beauty and comfort, and enjoy the landscape right off the wrap-around porch. We spent 7 nights there and were not ready to leave!
We came to Alaska to see the Alaskan wildlife and scenery because it is so unlike Texas. Right off the porch we saw whales twice within 100 yards, bald eagles, deer, otters and various birds. While driving and hiking we saw black bear, porcupines, more bald eagles, and birds. The fishing derby was held when we arrived and we enjoyed seeing the daily weigh-ins and the beautiful King Salmon, weighing as much as 45 pounds.
Louise, the owner, was SO helpful during our visit even though she was very busy with her teaching schedule. She is familiar with any excursion or general needs, whether it be to the LeConte Glacier, fishing charters, Wrangell, or where to buy your groceries or other needs. The Lucky Loon lacks nothing in comfort and we loved its setting about 3 miles out of town. We felt its location allowed us to see more wildlife and just drink in the beautiful landscape--Canadian mountains, fishing boats, and the beautiful colors of dusk and dawn on Frederick Sound. Its setting in the woods and on the water provided a peacefulness and closeness to nature we will not forget. As a lodging host, Louise ranks number one on our Alaska trip!
When we visit new towns in our travels and we like to immerse ourselves in the pulse of the town and its history. The people of Petersburg are so friendly and helpful. Visit the Clausen Memorial Museum for its history and culture and some of its local shops for Alaskan souvenirs. Enjoy the Norwegian influence evident in the local architecture and the people. You can do sightseeing if you choose to rent a car locally, as we did, or go hiking. The 40,000 Mile drive is gorgeous. Bring your cameras for the wildlife and scenery!
We are already trying to plan another trip to visit The Lucky Loon, Louise, Peter,
and Lizzie, the family dog! We miss everything about it!
