The joshua tree highlands neighborhood climbs up the mountains on the south side of town, bordered on the south and west by the highlands nature preserve, and the east by road out to the national park. The terrain is thick with desert vegetation, the houses are far apart, and and the views are incredible, sweeping across the valley to the north, and into the park on the east. The neighborhood has a night sky ordinance that asks folks to keep outdoor lights to a minimum, so the stars can work their magic.
As a guest at the casita you are supporting our family, and our art and healing practices. We look forward to meeting you and being a sweet part of your desert experience. Come rest, rejuvenate and get inspired!
Jenny has been living in Joshua Tree for 13 years, and built the Casa and Casita de la Luna in 2005. She is an RN, Herbalist and local business owner. Her apothecary 'Grateful Desert Herb Shoppe and EcoMarket' is a well loved centerpiece of downtown Joshua Tree. Myshkin is a composer and touring musician who recently moved from Oregon and is so happy to find herself surrounded by artists, musicians, and other gentle eccentric souls in this amazing desert hideaway town.
myshkin purchased this cottage in 2005
The sweet community, the wild desert, the soft air, and the giant skies and sweeping views.
We just spent 1 night in this lovely little studio & we loved it. The location was beautiful, quiet & had great views. The hot tub is amazing, with stars to see in all directions. It was super clean, well stocked with everything you could need & all the organic bath products were divine. Jenny even gave us a $5 voucher for her natural organic shop in town which we thought was so sweet. Thank you Jenny & Myshkin! Oh & we loved your music Myshkin!!! :-))
We just spent a spectacular week at this little studio in Yucca Valley. The pictures do not do the studio or the views justice. I suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder and so need to go somewhere sunny during the winter to keep my mood stable. The place must also be relatively quiet because I am an online professor and must read and grade essays while soaking in the sun. I couldn't have found a better place in my dreams! Myshkin (we didn't get the opportunity to meet Jenny -- though we loved using her organic herbal soaps, shampoos, and sprays :-)) was friendly and welcoming but also completely respectful of our privacy. The hot tub is fully enclosed yet open--in all the right places-- to a spectacular view of the mountains during the day and of the starry black sky at night. The water seemed to be treated with something that made it smell really fresh and was set to the perfect temperature for both day and evening soaks. The little studio is bright and airy with the curtains open or dark and cool with them closed so I could always create my perfect environment. With Palm Springs and Joshua Tree National Park so close by car (we rented one from Budget), there was always somewhere to go when we wanted to see the sights or simply wind our way through the hills and valleys. The people in the town are welcoming and friendly and their Saturday Farmer's Market is full of fresh veggies and local crafts. I would recommend stopping for a latte or a fruit smoothie at Ma Rouge Coffee House and checking out the local antique shops along Palm Springs Highway. So far this is my favourite spot for getting all the sunshine I need to get through the rest of winter in Southern Ontario, Canada!
