PEACEFUL, QUIET, COUNTRY SETTING

This was the perfect cottage for 4 of us to stay at for a Texas Hill Country weekend getaway! The cottage was clean and well-maintained, had everything we needed, and is in a great location. Gruene and New Braunfels are within a 5 minute drive, and many wineries are within an hour's drive. We loved watching the neighborhood deer and the owner's Shetland ponies - very entertaining! I would highly recommend this property to anyone who's looking to enjoy Texas hill country, and would definitely stay here again.

We needed to make last minute arrangements to visit with family and thank goodness the Rahe house was available. I've scratched my head about any possible noises written about in past reviews because the house is set back from the road, which is extremely quiet to begin with.

The photos on here are absolutely accurate. The house was spotless, with lots of brand new amenities, furniture, and seems like a family or group of friends could have a fantastic vacation or brief stay there with no worries about comfort. The owner, Marjorie, was incredibly friendly and available to answer a couple of questions we had.

We were also able to take a stroll to Gruene, probably about a 20 minute easy walk to Gruene Hall.

We traveled from far north Dallas to New Braunfels to celebrate our wedding anniversary in what we were promised was a quiet little house. The house itself was clean and cozy but we were unable to sleep in either the front or back bedroom. We tried both.

From the back bedroom the constant crowing of roosters grew irritating before we had even unloaded our car. Since there were two bedrooms we decided that the front one would allow us to get far enough away from the birds to enjoy seeing them when outside without the annoyance of hearing them when we tried to sleep.

Unfortunately there was a loud noise that could be heard from the front bedroom. It sounded like cars and/or trucks driving over a metal grate. The noise went on intermittently ALL NIGHT. The house is on such a nice quiet road we were at a loss to understand where the explosive booming noise was coming from. Niether one of us could sleep for more than maybe 20 minutes at a time.

By dawn we were exhausted and wanted nothing more than to sleep. So we decided that we had to check out and since there was nothing else in a quiet area available that night we drove all the way back home. We spent our anniversary in the car, and instead of dining at our special restaurant in New Braunfels, we ending up eating on the road.

We were very disappointed with Rahe because we had been told by the owner that the house was in a very quiet location. That was not true. We advised the owner prior to booking the reservation at Rahe that our first requirement regarding a vacation rental was quiet. Ultimately I just want to advise prospective renters that unless they can sleep through noisy birds and mysterious metal banging disturbances in the night they should book elsewhere.
