About Nancy Richards

I have lived in Asheville for 20 years and love the mountains and trails that surround the city. Downtown has gone through an amazing transition, with wonderful restaurants, galleries, shops and more. Most of my adult life I have been a trail runner and love the near by Mountain to Sea trail and Bent Creek area. I am a massage therapist, caregiver, and own a couple of cabins. My passions are traveling, hiking, swimming, biking and yoga. When we moved here I also found my creative side in weaving on a loom.

Nancy Richards purchased this cabin in 2001

Why Nancy Richards chose Asheville

We built this cabin in 2001 and love the convenient location to trails, Blue Ridge Parkway, and downtown.

What makes this cabin unique

Tranquility and beauty surrounds Sophie's Cabin

  • 5 of 5

As busy Jersey folk, we needed a getaway, a place to relax & where we could bring the dogs along, avoiding a long week at the kennel. We have such guilt leaving them for more than 2-3 days. Sophie's Cabin was spacious, enough for more than two people, but perfect as we had two moderately size, rambunctious retrievers with us. Waking up every morning to the lovely sounds of local birds and cool breeze was calming and serene. The wrap around porch as a major plus..allowing us to interact with the dogs, enjoying breakfast and long talks over coffee. The cabin was meticulous, beds so comfy, stocked with essentials (wonderful selection of CDs on the shelf leading to the master bedroom), yard completely fenced in & included friendly neighbors. Never intrusive, but always a friendly hello and smile. The cabin was literally 10 mins. from the center of downtown Asheville, an exit away form the Blue Ridge Parkway and many local attractions. We had many longs walks in town, discovering tasty restaurants, museums, breweries, interesting shops, taking in the local music scene. Sunny Pointe Cafe and French Broad chocolates were my favorites. The sausage and wings at Luella's we are missing in Jersey! So yummy. We made sure to drive the parkway, take in the sights, sounds and beauty of the hikes and trails, accompanied by our dogs...very dog friendly town, btw. We felt at home & will love the opportunity to visit again. Add nearby Lake Lure, Craggy Gardens, Chimney Rock Pointe and DuPont National Forest to your itinerary. Don't miss the gorgeous waterfalls at DuPont Forest. You won't be disappointed. Thanks for the wonderful accommodations. Sincerely, Gwen, Scott + Bella and Eli

Loved Sophie's Hideaway!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a month at the cabin and could not have been happier. We are veteran HomeAway travelers and appreciated Nancy's attention to detail. The cozy flannel sheets, the hot tub, the fully equipped kitchen the fun folk art throughout the cabin, free netflix, and the nice soaps were all thoughtful additions that made our stay comfortable. The location is great- minutes to downtown and close to hiking trails and the Blue Ridge. I loved the birds and the feeders! Our dog loved the freedom of the large , fenced yard and even learned to use the Doggie Dog. A great spot we would be happy to return to. Thank you, Nancy!

Wonderful little gem

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful little cabin. Very welcoming and cozy. From the moment you step on to the porch you and your family, including the dog feel welcome. Nora, our four legged wonder, enjoyed her stay - she even learned how to use the dog door. I have yet to stay as such a dog friendly home with blankets, towels, dog bowls and dog treats for her. The added treats for the rest of us were amazing...homemade banana bread along with a welcome note. There are just so many little things that made this stay special. Fresh cut flower, handcrafted soaps etc. We felt right at home. Thank you!!! We will book her again.

Wonderful and cozy!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this sweet little cabin! It is beautiful, clean, and the owner provides a few special provisions (i.e. snacks, dog biscuits, and personalized soaps) that really add to the accommodations! We even discovered a sweet "welcome" card when we arrived. This cabin truly is 100% dog-friendly. It has spacious and fenced back and front yards, and the owner even provides blankets in case the pups want to get on the furniture. The location is perfect as well. We were able to drive downtown in about 10 minutes, and to a nearby trail in less than 10. The only slight negative we discovered was low and fluctuating water pressure while using showers, toilets, etc. Otherwise, this place was perfect. Highly recommend!

Couldn't have asked for a better stay!

  • 5 of 5

Loved it. This is a peaceful and happy getaway. Great for a couple or small family. The house was very clean and comfortable with great light coming in the windows all day. At night after a soak in the hot tub, we fell asleep to a soft rain on the roof. The location was convenient to the BR PKWay, hiking, dog park, mall, grocery, take out and minutes to downtown. Dogs were ecstatic about the wrap around porch and fenced in yard. Recommend chop shop for steak and pig ears! We will definitely return.

Charming + Cozy = Perfect

  • 5 of 5

Sophie's Hideaway is a charming, cozy cabin and we loved spending Thanksgiving there. It has everything you need including a well stocked kitchen, outdoor grill for smoking the turkey, nice tv for watching football and convenient access to Asheville. What makes this cabin special are the welcoming touches upon arrival of delicious biscotti and fresh flowers. A delightful home we hope to return to in the future.
