Kiawah, our home for almost 12 years, is truly a magical place!
Our home is on a flag lot - technically ocean front - and has a dedicated view of the ocean from the upper floors. Most importantly, we have a private beach path that winds through the dunes to the beach; only 100 yards away, we can be on the beach and swimming in the ocean in a matter of a few minutes.
We have six bedrooms, six baths, a very modern kitchen with stainless appliances and a tremendous Wolf eight-burner oven. We have three living areas, a TV room, a fully-furnished screened-in porch, and much more for your enjoyment. Perfect for a large family, a reunion, or a few close friends spending the week together.
Keywords: Kiawah Island. Behind second gate in the Vanderhorst Plantation. Ocean Back Flag location, Beach Front, with ocean view and private beach access.
Huge home! Perfect for reunions. Totally renovated in 2005. Aside from the 6 bedrooms and six baths, there is a designer kitchen perfect for cooks, a TV room with a 50+" TV for watching family movies, a screened porch to hear the ocean waves and for napping, games and puzzles for the kids, wireless internet for those wanting to log in, and much, much more.
We provide linens, bath towels, beach towels, beach toys (shovels, etc), and beach chairs (so you don't have to carry them with you).
Just show up and enjoy the great beach and activities of Kiawah.
We are a family of 6 (four children) and enjoy the beach tremendously. This is our "home away from home" .... not just a rental for us.
Greg purchased this house in 2005
To us, Kiawah is the quintessential Beach resort for families.
What a great house and location. Spent a long weekend there for the Kiawah marathon with a group of friends. Aside from the race we spent the entire stay hanging out and the house resting and relaxing.
This was the 4th (or 5th?) time that we rented this vey spacious house. In general, the accomodations are great and the property was very clean. Some details to follow up:
- several light bulbs were burned out and no replacements were available
- some of the tall plants along the boardwalk need to be trimmed to allow free passage
- the 2 electrical engineers in the family never managed to turn on the big TV downstairs
We've been going to Kiawah for 12 years and this was, by far, the nicest place we've ever stayed! It was a great value compared to some of the other houses I'd looked at because it's not technically oceanfront. It's set back farther from the beach than some of the neighboring homes, but there is nothing blocking the view from the top floor and there is a private walkway to the beach. It's not a long walk by any means, but it's nice that there is a landing where we kept beach chairs so we wouldn't have to take them back & forth everyday.
The house itself was clean and had more than enough space for our 10 adults. We grilled out and cooked several meals in the great kitchen. There was even a cupboard filled with spices. The open living area was great for hanging out, although some of our group wished there had been a tv in there. I didn't miss the tv since there is a separate, large den that has a big tv on the main floor.
There were plenty of beach towels, chairs and boogie boards provided so if you don't have room to pack them, leave them at home. A small amount of laundry and dish detergent was provided, as well as toiletries and toilet paper. This may seem minor, but it kept me from having to run to the store immediately.
Kiawah is a beautiful vacation spot and our favorite activities are the beach and bike rides. We always rent bikes from Alligator and if you call and arrange to pay cash, they'll give you a discount. There is a bike rack by the driveway, but we loved having the garage to put them in so we didn't have to bother with the locks every time one of us wanted to go for a bike ride. Even with the 9 bikes and several golf bags, we still had room to park a car in there.
I really have nothing but good things to say about this house or Kiawah. This particular trip will hold a special place in my heart though because our daughter and her boyfriend got engaged while we were there. Both families were present and it was quite a celebration!
We would definitely recommend this house and we hope to rent it again ourselves sometime in the not too distant future!
This house is a gem and a real value for Kiawah. It is well appointed with large common spaces, great sized bedrooms (with plenty of bathrooms), and lots of extra nooks and crannies. We had six couples and 8 children under 5 years and we were comfortable and all had our own space. The extra den and loft upstairs is a nice plus and makes the house feel like at least 7 bedrooms. We also enjoyed the big open kitchen/living room along with the side den (with TV) where the kids often played. The owner has obviously enjoyed the house for years and so it has a great homey feel, and is equipped with much more (beach toys, bikes, gourmet cooking supplies, towels, etc) than the average rental home. Lastly but certainly not least, the private path to the beach is a massive plus for Kiawah. Getting to the beach from some places can be a chore, and not only is this a short walk but there is a sitting area 3/4 of the way to the beach where you can leave chairs, surfboards and beach toys so you don't have to lug them back and forth all the time. We've stayed in places off the beach in the past and this setup dominates! We are re-booking asap.
We had a fantastic week at this house. It was perfect for our large group of four married couples and five young adults - we actually could have accommodated a few more. The location on the beach was great - short walk on the private path and the ocean breezes kept it fairly cool. The beach was wide and uncrowded, even in early July. We would stay here again.
The house was excellent . Totally comfortable for 8 adults and 5 little children. Well Equipped. Easy private beach access and a wonderful gentle waterfront for little children. No crowds.
Kiawah Island is one of the premier resorts on the world, boasting miles-and-miles of ocean front beaches, four World Class golf resorts and two large tennis facilities (approximately 30 total courts).
The beach is truly fantatic - especially for families. Excellent for sunning, is it very flat and hard-packed - biking on the beach if fun! In addition, the beach has a very gradual slope (and no drop off), adding to the enjoyment of the entire family.
Golfing is fantastic and challenging. Professional tournaments have been held on Kiawah (such as Fed Cup (tennis) matches and the Ryder Cup), and most notably, the 2012 PGA Championship will be held here.
A mere 21 miles away is Charleston, SC one of the most unique and beautiful historic towns of America. Charleston boats fantastic shops, bars and restaurants. There are many interesting activities, such as 'Ghost Tours', Fort Sumter, USS Independence, and a fantastic world-class aquarium.
