'THE LITTLE HOUSE' CLASSIC BUNGALOW-SOUTHERN SHORES CANALFRONT

We stayed at the Little House for a week and had a perfect stay. The house was just what we needed and had a very cozy atmosphere. The 2 queen beds were very comfortable and our kids were excited to have a TV in their room. I loved the flip flop rug - thought it was so cute!!

It was nice to have beach towels and beach chairs provided so we did not have to cart them with us. The bath towels were so soft too and the house was very clean upon arrival.

Malissa went above and beyond to welcome us and make sure that our stay was great. She informed us that our house would be ready early and we could start our vacation. She added extra touches such as a basket of toiletries in the bathroom just in case we forgot anything and even left a gift for our children. Those added touches really made the Little House a perfect spot for us.

This was our first visit to the Outer Banks and the Little House in Southern Shores provided what we were looking for in terms of number of bedrooms and location. The house, nestled amongst tall pines and dogwoods backs on to the canal in Southern Shores, and is approximately 2 miles from the closest public town beach access point (for which the owner provides a town pass for parking). It has a 1960s California ranch style design with windows built up into the A frame. There are two bedrooms on opposite sides of one central room that serves as family room, dining area, and kitchen. Each bedroom is equipped with its own TV and separate A/C, dehumidification units. There are large doors that open to a deck complete with table and seating as well as gas grill. A new shed is available with lock for bikes or other items.

As we were there during an above normal temperature mid-July, when we were at the house, we were able to stay comfortable in the house. Southern Shores sits north of Kitty Hawk and south of Duck and has its own charm. Roughly speaking, you're equidistant between Corolla to the north (Currituck lighthouse) and Bodie Isand to the south. The great majority of homes are not 'beach' homes in appearance and could be located anywhere, so you do have a nice feeling of being away at the beach without feeling like you're living on the sand and under the sun every single moment.

The owner, Malissa, made every effort to be accommodating, was responsive to a couple of questions we had, and, in general, provided the feeling of being available without being intrusive.

Anyone renting should understand that the kitchen is basically like one you'd find in a studio apartment with limited counter space and room in the refrigerator. There is no dishwasher and no washer and dryer on premises (clothes line and pins are available for drying suits and towels). There is one full bath inside and a shower outside with full privacy. Everything was clean and in order for our stay.

We would definitely recommend the property for a family of up to 4 or a couple.

My partner and I were looking for a beach getaway from DC and The Little House was nothing short of perfect. Southern Shores/Duck is near the top part of OBX so we avoided hours of traffic if we had gone farther done. The rental itself is ideally placed - it feels completely hidden away in a sleepy neighborhood with lush greenery all around and canal access in the backyard! I loved that there were no streetlights - the stars and quiet night was beautiful. The beach access is barely a five minute drive and we had no trouble finding parking with the pass left for us! The house is nicely appointed with everything you could even think to need and stayed cool on the hottest days. Perfect retreat with a fantastic renting experience. HIGHLY recommended.
