Charming Modern Log Cabin on 4 Wooded Mountain Acres with complete Privacy

While we did find the cabin cute and clean there are definite issues I had.
We arrived in the early evening and drove up & down the mountian many times trying to find the cabin.I tried calling Jeff with no luck more than once. We even spoke with a police office we found on the mountian road and he couldn't help us with finding the cabin even after contacting another officer. We finally gave up and found a hotel room down in Pigeon Forge where I left messages on the phone numbers Jeff had provided. He did respond qiuckly and we agreed upon a time to phone him in the morning when we were back on the mountian road leading to the cabin, which we did and he guided us up to the cabin. So one nights stay was wasted... As for the Hot tub...if you call 79 to 81 degrees hot ..then I guess it's a hot tub but I was in it once and after that kept an eye on the temp hoping it would warm up. As for the fireplace although his sign states it's available from October thru March or April would not light....so much for that too. I did try calling and finally text messaged him 2 times concerning both the hot tub and fireplace but received no response...Fed up we left a day early...This little get away ended up costing 5 nights for a 3 night stay in a cabin with a hot tub and fireplace that did not work properly....So much for stress reduction.

We were at the cabin for less than 30 min. When raining the dirt road to the cabin is very steep almost impassable for a 2 wheel drive SUV. There was a horrible odor in the cabin. Propane tank was empty, so no gas fireplace. Shower leaked all over floor. Bathroom floor wood trim was black with mold. the smell was from the mold. I am very allergic to mold. One very old sofa (no other seating) in the living room was so bad you basically sit on the floor. Blowup hot tub has tear on the side. No inside doorknobs on two of the doors to the outside deck. We were VERY upset and called the owner and spoke to his wife who said he was on a hunting trip and could not be reached for days. I told her we could not stay, please have him call me. He never called. I emailed him/ left voicemail explaining all the issues with the cabin and asked for a "partial" refund to my advanced full payment.

Here is his reply: “I heard your message today. I have also read the email you sent. I am sorry that your vacation was less than you expected, but it was not my fault! I did send you my rental Agreement and you signed it. It clearly states the cancellation policy. Unfortunately the Electric Company, Cable Company, Ins Company, Mortgage Company and several others do not care and still require me to send them thier money. The shower has already been re caulked and the wood replaced and the gas tank has been filled. I cannot address certain things till I know. Had you stayed and informed me, the minor repairs and the gas would have been taken care of immediately the next day. You did not leave because of either of these issues, and had you stayed a quick repair still would not warrant any refunds. Leaks and gas running out are things that happen. A wide array of people rent the cabin and repairs are constantly needed. There is no way to gauge how much gas any one guest will use. Sorry for your other issues that had nothing to do with me. Jeff”.

We left the cabin due to the miserable and unhealthy conditions. A guest should not be expected to wait on repairs. The cabin should be maintained appropriately by the owner, and all advertised amenities should be in working order for all guests PRIOR to their visit. After reading several other reviews about this owner, there appears to be an issue with truthfulness. Sadly I cannot recommend this cabin or doing business with this individual.

The cabin is in a good location, secluded but still close enough to activities and attractions. If you are unfamiliar with mountain roads like we were, I would definitely suggest arriving when it is still light outside. We had our GPS and it was still a little tough to navigate arriving in the late afternoon. We were disappointed with the view, we were not able to see the mountains really at all. I guess we would need to visit in the fall when the trees have less leaves on them. The cabin was nicely decorated although the closet and storage space was a little limited even for only 2 adults and our 3 year old son (we stayed for 5 nights so we had 1 suitcase each and a couple small dufflebags with toiletries, etc). Our main issues...We had a problem with ants in the kitchen so some of our food was wasted, also we lost power in a storm on our third night there, which would have been fine if it wasn't for our little guy. He handled it ok but it would have been nice if there were some flashlights in the cabin or oil in the lanterns on the mantle so we could have used them. Luckily, we had a couple flashlights in our vehicle. We did call the owner and used our phone to find the number for the electric company and called to report the outage. I think it would be helpful to have a list of contact numbers maybe on the fridge just for those instances, especially when it's late at night. The tv loses signal pretty frequently so I would suggest bringing a few movies for hanging out in the cabin.. I think there was supposed to be a movie collection but we didn't find it. There were some nice games and a few books though. The washer and dryer were a nice touch and helped throughout the week. The hot tub was also nice, very relaxing at the end of the day. We dd not want to come home, it was such a beautiful area and we will definitely be back! Not sure that we would stay here again, though, would likely go for a place that has a bit more space and a few more amenities.
