TASTEFULLY APPOINTED TOWNHOUSE NEAR NATIONALS STADIUM

Southwest Waterfront Townhome Rental Photos and Description

Townhouse Duplex 2 BD 2.5 BA Sleeps 6-8

In Southwest Washington, DC, tucked away near the water, is one of our new favorite properties. (Can be bundled with vrbo.com/486908 to sleep up to 10 persons. 486908 is literally in the building next door.)

Located on a quiet, one-way residential street, this Federal Style contemporary is one block west of the Nationals Stadium, and four blocks east of the lovely Washington DC Waterfront, which includes the award-winning architect-designed Arena Stage.

Perched just far enough from the Capitol to feel like you've left the Lobbyists at work, you are in fact only 10 minutes by car, and even less by metro from THE Capitol Hill. The townhouse is centrally located three blocks from the Navy Yard Metro and a short walk to the many parks and attractions. There is a new Safeway, Starbucks, and CVS about 7 minutes from the home, and a slew of new restaurants have opened on Barracks Row only minutes away. If you like the outdoors, the number of small urban parks within this density is really good. Some of my favorites are Canal Park (http://www.capitolriverfront.org/go/canal-park); Tingey Plaza (www.capitolriverfront.org/go/tingey-plaza); Garfield Park)www.capitolriverfront.org/go/garfield-park); The Yards Park (www.capitolriverfront.org/go/the-yards-park); and Diamond Teague Park (www.capitolriverfront.org/go/diamond-teague-park).

This townhouse has a front entrance with on street parking and a rear entrance with parking spaces for two. The rear entrance brings you through an open and large patio, and through the French doors and into the living area. The front entrance is a more formal main level entrance thru a common vestibule.

The ground floor living area has a generous west facing living room, with double french doors, high ceilings, and generous sized windows. Comfortable and elegant, this tastefully decorated living area has a Pier 1 sofa, 2 oversized chairs, and 2 occasional chairs. Floor lamps as well as recessed lighting create multiple opportunities to curl up with a good book on a lazy saturday or rainy sunday.

Across from the living area with views onto the terrace is the office area with writing desk, retrieved from a Mandarin Hotel renovation a few years ago. This Mahogany Art Deco Contemporary piece has a chinese red insert drawer that sits below a removable glass top. With stainless steel anklets, the legs of the desk look very elegant and sanguine. Just the perfect setting to open up that MacBook and do some work.

Adjacent to the living room is the dining area, with seating for 6. This oversized glass top table uses as a base 2 pieces of Black African Granite, mined in the caves of South Africa near Johannesburg. It was cheaper to purchase than to ship!

On the opposite side of the dining room wall are the kitchen and powder room. The large eat-in kitchen, with its African slate tile floor, was renovated in 2008 and has all stainless steel appliances. The refrigerator has a water dispenser, the oven is electric, as is dishwasher and microwave oven. There is generous counter space with under-the-cabinet lighting. The kitchen has a circular wood block table with chairs that looks out onto the quiet street though 2 ivy-surround windows. There is a flat screen television in the kitchen.

The powder room is painted in Ralph Lauren's Hunting Coat Red. There are both a Kohler Pedestal Sink and Kohler Faucets.

The 2 bedrooms are located on the upper floor and are accessed via the staircase off the entry room hallway. The front bedroom has a 2 poster Queen Bed. There is a Duncan Phyfe upholstered settee and antique small coffee table, perfect for a nice evening read or morning coffee before heading downstairs with the group. This front bedroom, called the Master, has 3 custom built closets along the south wall. This bedroom shares a hall bath.

The rear bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with marble tiles, a rainshower showerhead, Kohler pedestal sink and oversized medicine cabinet. This rear bedroom has 2 Antique Mahogany Double Beds, with large flatscreen on adjacent wall. This bedroom has good closet space and storage using open storage cubes.

This is a perfect package of a good location, tastefully appointed, quiet and relaxed home with access to Baseball, Metro, Shops, Restaurants and the Waterfront. This home is perfect for the family visiting on vacation, the business executive bringing his or her family, Baseball enthusiasts, or anyone seeking an International Flair on a yet decidedly American experience!

Keywords: 2 bedrooms, 1 queen bed, 2 double beds, 2 full baths, Powder Room, 2 1/2 bath, Rear deck patio and garden, New Renovated kitchen, Large living space, Sleeps 6, duplex, non smoking, Off Street and Private Parking

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and wish it had been longer.Bernard takes good care of his guests and gave us the name of his driver who took us on a short tour of the city, gliding through traffic with a smoothness we've never experienced in a taxi in the big city...

This was our first foray into VRBO territory and it could not have been a more pleasant and rewarding experience. We're seasoned home exchangers, so the idea of sharing another person's living quarters

was not foreign to us. What a pleasant surprise, though, to discover this stylish and comfortable living space just a short distance from all the major sights of the Nation's capital. We were not only treated to all the comforts of our own home, we were also helped through the

process by a helpful and accessible owner, who was quick to respond to our orientation questions about the arrangement, the apartment and the environs without hesitation. Forget the pricey hotels. We would

strongly recommend this apartment if you're looking for a comfortable, safe, first-rate stay in DC...

About Bernard Bell

I'm a TV Network executive who travels alot. Originally from NC, I have been living in DC since 2003. I also split my time between my homes in NYC, NC, and Atlanta. But DC is the best city ever!

Bernard Bell purchased this townhome in 2004

Why Bernard Bell chose Southwest Waterfront

I purchased this property right before the Baseball Stadium was built, and have seen this neighborhood literally transform before my very eyes. The Stadium has transformed the energy of the area. I love to sit on the terrace with a glass of wine and hear the Baseball Stadium cheers!

What makes this townhome unique

The thrill of being in this neighborhood comes from when I walk out my front door, look to the left, and see the shining dome of the Nation's Capitol building. It is a significant and tangible energy booster, and a reminder of the freedoms that we take for granted in this country.

Perfect Place

  • 5 of 5
Truly, the perfect place for a DC vacation. This townhome is impeccably clean and it is located in a great spot. Close to National Ballpark, Navy Yard, and a short jaunt to the Metro. Once we parked our car, we took the Metro everywhere we wanted to go. Our party included four adults and two children. There was plenty of space for all. We would highly recommend this lovely home. The owner of this home is readily available by text for any questions or concerns.

Beautiful apartment in peaceful street

  • 5 of 5
Our whole family loved this apartment. It was beautifully decorated and appointed with comfortable beds, spacious rooms and a fantastically well equipped kitchen. All the appliances worked beautifully and the apartment was pleasure to stay in.
It is a lovely older style apartment with wooden flooring and a great atmosphere. It was great to have 2 bathrooms with a family of 5.
The neighbourhood was excellent. Friendly locals and really nice feel to the place. I was perplexed by a couple of comments suggesting the neighbourhood was bit gritty!? It was a wonderfully friendly welcoming part of town. I walked home several times after dark and felt perfectly safe. Stopped and chatted to lots of locals who couldn't have been nicer. Some people must live a very sheltered life it they think this neighbourhood is 'a bit salty'.
Bernard was an excellent host who provided lots of clear information, called to make sure we arrived ok and was very helpful in every way.
An excellent apartment for families staying in Washington DC.

The house has everything

  • 5 of 5
Many VRBOs and their owners advertise that their house has everything, but this house truly has everything for a very pleasant stay. Bernard has spared nothing to make his guest feel welcome and comfortable. It is spacious and very tastefully decorated. TVs and books in every room. Kitchen has lot of utensils. But Bernard you must supervise your cleaners. As you know we came back to the house after the cleaners left. We found that all the groceries we left behind were removed from the kitchen. VRBOs are something like a pay it forward. We leave something for the next guest and they do the same!
Bernard is very nice man. We will highly recommend his house. But if you are nervous about neighborhoods you may want to research this one. Some of my D.C friends didn’t think much about this neighborhood.

Great place, great location

  • 4 of 5
The townhouse was as described. On site parking a HUGE plus. Metro is with in walking distance. We took in a baseball game while visiting and how nice it was to be able to walk out the gate and walk the 1 block to the townhouse and not have to get tangled in traffic. We reported a few things that needed to be repaired. Bernard addressed our concerns promptly. He was even going to go out of his way to secure a parking space for friends coming into the city for the ball game until they decided to use the metro. The neighbors were very friendly and said if we needed anything to let them know. A big plus when in an unfamiliar area. We would recommend this unit to anyone visiting DC. We would rent this townhouse again in a heartbeat. We gave a rating of "good" because of the items that needed attention, otherwise we would have rated "excellent."

Great place

  • 5 of 5
This is a lovely place. Lots of space, thoughtful touches and everything in order. This was our first trip to DC and it was a great base to explore from and come "home" to. We did not do heavy duty cooking but it is set up very nicely if you wish to with oils etc. The patio was lovely, with plants, ( not too many rentals have real, living plants) lights and nice seating. Forgot to bring spray for mosquitoes so that was an issue. Bed in master very comfy and hall bathroom great. We were just 2 so did not really use the other upstairs part but seemed very well appointed. Internet worked well. Very comfy to just relax in. Did not use TV or DVD player . Living room and dining area very comfy and nice.

Info not really related to the space but relevant is that the metro is so convenient. You should pay attention to the directions from Bernard about the Half street entrance versus using the mobile app which takes you about 2 blocks further for the same metro stop. When you get off follow signs for the ballpark and it will take you out the closest exit. When you are coming back from your day you can get off the Waterfront exit on the green line, shop at the Safeway right at the top of the metro stop, then go one stop to NavyYard/Ballpark and walk a couple blocks. We came home late only 1 night and a little apprehensive due to there not being much developed in the area right now but nothing really concerning. Neighbors very friendly as were most people we met. If you arrive by car on a game day there will be no space in front and you will need to park behind and walk around corner to get key to come in. The park is so close and we had great fun going to a Nationals and Orioles game even with a rain delay. Games bring alot more people to the area, clearly.

Excellent place, great communication with owner and we will definitely come back!
