After many years work in mechanical engineering, I retired so I could go sailing. I also enjoy a good game of squash, which I play throughout the year. When I'm home I like to share great meals and funny stories with my friends. This home is ideal for entertaining throughout the year and a great spot to gather your family and friends from around the globe.

Bill purchased this house in 2004

I transferred to Nova Scotia in 1999, and was determined to make the most of 'Canada's Ocean Playground'. I started with kayaking and was later invited to go sailing. The instant I felt the sails fill with wind to carry us across St. Margarets Bay I was hooked, I had to stay. The hospitality and friendship of Nova Scotians is so compelling I decided to build a home on the ocean so that I could enjoy the bold views and peaceful surroundings as well as the people. I built my home in 2004 and have never looked back. Now I sail whenever possible, which is why I am able to share my home with you, especially in the Summer and Fall! Come and enjoy the comfort of my home and all that Nova Scotia has to offer.

Spending time in my home you will feel any stress of the day melting away. It is so peaceful and relaxing here. If you've never sat at the edge of the ocean and watched the waves roll in, you owe it to yourself to try it.

And at night, watch in wonder at the stars. They are so clear and bright out in the country.

GREAT VACATION HOME NEAR BLIND BAY

  • 5 of 5
Our stay on Blind Bay was memorable and this house was a big part of that. With 7 in the house there was plenty of room and amenitites for all. The kitchen is well stocked with equipment and the lobster pot and burner was utilized several times. A very spacious home on the water! The owner met us upon arrival and gave us the details and suggestions for local entertainment and dining.
Located in a gated area, the cottage was a good kick off point to access many of the highlights that NS has to offer. Peggy's Cove, Lunenburg and Prospect were all visited easily from this location. A notable highlight was the sea kayaking at East Coast Outfitters in Lower Prospect..book a day in advance and it is only 25 minutes from the cottage.
A final note...lots of wildlife seen right at the cottage including porcupines, deer, a fisher, harbour seals and many avian breeds.

Owner's Response: Many thanks for penning your vacation review Scott, I enjoyed meeting you and the rest if your family. You had wonderful questions and clearly put the tips to great use. I can't think of a more picturesque area to go kayaking out here than at ECO. They run a great outfit and cater to all skill and interest levels. We're just about to start the Peggy's Cove art gallery tour, but it sounds like you made it to a few galleries in advance. The talent pool here is quite impressive. Well done on the wildlife spotting while at my home. I hope the Eagles and Ospreys put in a few breathtaking displays for you. Happy travels. Cheers, Bill

BEAUTIFUL HOUSE AND PROPERTY.

  • 5 of 5
We had a great time staying at your beautiful house. One of the highlights was the lobster boil we had and your recommendation for Ryer's for lobsters was appreciated. The welcome gift was a very nice touch as well. The sunsets were beautiful and the whole family loved their time at your place. Hopefully we will be back sometime.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your feedback Jenn and Cam,
It was great to meet you and the "Royal Couple". Hope Hayden and Cole, enjoyed their East Coast lobster and that you got some great photo's of the evening! You had a great idea to combine a work conference with a family vacation. I'm glad it worked well for you and I'd be only too happy to welcome you back to enjoy more spectacular sunsets and the peaceful surroundings sometime.

FANTASTIC FIRST TRIP TO NOVA SCOTIA - THANKS BILL!

  • 5 of 5
We were hoping for a week of idyllic beautiful, stunning views, peace, and privacy. Turns out that's exactly what we got thanks to this wonderful home. The four of us had never been to Nova Scotia before, and while excited about the trip, were also hopeful that we had booked the right house as it can be difficult to find the 'right' place from many miles away. Luckily we really hit the jackpot here. The house was really large, particularly compared to many other homes on VRBO, but also very comfortable and well equipped. There was plenty of space for all of us to stretch our legs and not feel on top of one another. And the grounds of the home are specious and private, with really nice water views. The home was so comfortable that we often chose eating at 'home' rather than make the trek out. And it was a bit of a trek out, as the house is a little off the beaten path and nestled a few miles into a private development, so you really need to plan your excursions. It was about 30 minutes to sizable civilization, which happens to be a giant shopping area with an IMAX theater, indoor go-karting, grocery stores, Starbucks, Target, etc. So for us the distance was PERFECT. Far enough away to have a really private vacation, but close enough to all of the 'normal' conveniences we're embarrassingly used to from back home! It's also nicely located geographically for day excursions into Lunenburg, Chester, and Halifax - which are all great towns. The best part? As great as the house was, the owner, Bill, was even better. He put up with all of our crazy questions and requests (and we had more than a few!) and did so with a great sense of humor. He was incredibly thoughtful, responsive, and accommodating and really helped make our vacation memorable. p.s - we second the recommendation for RHUBARB. Really great restaurant / our best meal all week.

Owner's Response: Dear Norm, Mike, Susie and Cynthia,
Well, this time it's me that has writers block. I had a blast with you folks and am happy to receive such a thoughtful review of your stay. Thanks for setting me off on text messages filled with emoticons when answering vacation queries. You "took the biscuit" for the most humorous (and voluminous) email and text exchanges I've had with my guests. And you all turned out to be just as much fun in person. I have great memories of the afternoon we spent together. I'm looking over those water views as I write this. The trees and ocean are a wonderful range of colour in the sunshine and......I can barely hear a sound other than birds singing and the waves gently lapping the shore. Yep, no IMAX rumbles or go kart engine noises out here. Just the sound of peace and quiet. The Rhubarb restaurant has become the favourite choice of my guests, serving good quality local fare in a nice, welcoming environment. I'll continue to guide people there or of course to answer the kind of questions you sent my way for your vacation. It's great to hear that you found my home a great place to spend your first trip to Nova Scotia. I'd be glad to welcome you back. All the best for that big celebration at the end of October 2013. I wish you health and happiness. And for Cynthia, "The Blanket Hound", more items for your collection.
Cheers, Bill

OUR CHOICE FOR BEST VRBO "HOST"

Our choice for best VRBO "host"
  • 5 of 5
Just left this extraordinary property. Have to add the following: Our group of 4 voted Bill as the best host of Nova Scotia. His home was exquisite, but Bill himself went "above and beyond" by welcoming us with flowers and chocolate. He directed us to an excellent restaurant, "Rhubarbs" when we arrived tired and hungry after a long travel day. He was charming, laid back and sooo helpful? Also, his cutlery is very cool ( seriously...it is). There is a remarkable light in the house as the sunlight hits the Bay and reflects into the spacious living room through magnificent windows. He actually has some "vinyls to spin" and a great sound system. The house was fully equipped. We left a small night light for other visitors for that first night when new comers may feel a bit disoriented in such a grand space. Our thanks go to Bill, though, for his comfortable "house of light" and for being the " best host of Nova Scotia"

Owner's Response: Dear Kerry, Theresa, Christine and Maureen,
Thanks so much for your kind and descriptive review. I'm glad you enjoyed my home and the views/colour bounced in from the Bay through all these windows. I chose to live in Nova Scotia because of the great people and the peaceful lifestyle. I'm so glad to have built my home on the shores of the Atlantic. It's gorgeous here. I've met many great people since I started opening my home for travelers near and far and I love it. It's a big decision to stay in a home you don't know and I respect that when people arrive, they've made a long journey too and are deserving of everything I can do to make their stay memorable yet relaxing. I'm flattered to have been bestowed with such great personal feedback from you.....and that you enjoyed my vinyl collection and the stereos!
FYI, you're the first to comment on the cutlery! It's stainless steel from Sheffield, England and was a wedding gift from my family.
Good tip on the night lights. I'll add a few more!
If you're up for that long drive again in the future, I'd love to welcome you back.
All the Best, Bill

LOVED THE VACATION HOME!!

  • 5 of 5
We just returned from a 5 day stay at this vacation home and was not disappointed with anything that the site had posted. We celebrated my 60th birthday there with immeadiate family and found It was in an excellent location for us, clean and well maintained. Mr Bill (as our granddaughter called him) was very helpful with our directions, met us at the gate etc., He takes pride in what his home has to offer it's guests and it shows in all the little things that make you feel relaxed and welcome!! We will recommend this for sure and hope to get back sometime!! We enjoyed the day trips into Halifax harbour & Peggy's Cove but our favorite spot was just sitting on a rock near the water watching the sea lions frolic and then who could ever forget the beautiful sunsets. Thanks so much Bill. We will always hold fond memories of our vacation in NS 2013.

Owner's Response: Hi Emily and Greg,
I'm happy to hear you had a nice relaxing and adventuresome time at my home celebrating Emily's Birthday with family. I think I know the rock you chose for the sunsets and watching the seals! And yes, it's a great spot to relax at the edge of the ocean with loved ones. I hope Jeanne treasures her seashell for many years to come and continues to be excited by all creatures large and small. I know I will treasure the gift from Greg. He's right, every sailor should have a sharp knife readily at hand and I now have a beaut. Many thanks for your kindness and consideration.
Warmest regards, Bill

SIXTY FIFTH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION WITH THE WHOLE FAMILY

  • 5 of 5
We celebrated my sixty-fifth birthday at Bill's great home in Blind Bay: me, wife, daughter, daughter and son-in-law and son and future daughter-in-law. Plenty of room (three bedrooms and a den that can double as a bedroom and two full baths with a half bath) --- especially the great working kitchen and back deck for grilling out. Located near to Halifax for those who wanted an urban experience and near to parks and water for those who wanted a more outdoors experience. We had two cars with us, so everyone got to do what they wanted during the day and to convene for dinner... which everyone took a shift.

The house and property are fantastic. Two of my children saw a pair of eagles and we all saw plenty of deer, One day/evening a magnificent rain storm came in from the bay.

There is no TV ( a plus) but there is a great stereo system and a got to kill for vinyl record collection and a DVD collection. Internet allowed us to maintain contact with the outside world (unfortunately work could not be put totally aside).

Bill is a great host. The house was in perfect shape when we got there, he gave us a great bottle of welcoming wine and fruit and cheese basket, and then the hair dryer died (with four women, a near disaster), he showed up the next morning with a new hair dryer. He's also a lot of fun to chat with about his life.

I would strongly recommend Bill's house for a stay in Nova Scotia. His home become our home for that week.

Owner's Response: Many thanks for your review Ann and Ron,
I too enjoyed chatting with you, particularly when I brought the hairdryer and saw the hub of activity in my home. It was great to see everyone doing their thing and to witness a little of the planning for the deep sea fishing trip. Glad to hear the kitchen worked well and that various chefs took charge. It really is the focal gathering area with plenty of room to spread out around that big dining table.
Sounds like your daughter, who was studying, found her quiet spot in my home and I trust she was successful in her exam back in Chicago.
I'm happy you felt at home at my place and I imagine you came away with many great Birthday celebration memories with your family gathered around you. I'm happy to have been a part of that.
All the Best, Bill
