I absolutely love Portland and all that it has to offer. I recently relocated to be closer to family and wanted to keep my condo in Portland so I can visit, as well as allow friends, family, and guests to experience Portland.
Owner/Manager purchased this condo in 2003
My family of four (2 adults and 2 large teens) rented this condo for five nights in July
2011 while we were in town visiting family. It is very clean and in a great central
Portland location. The beds are nicely firm and comfortable. Also, both beds were made
up with duvet covers, which I much prefer over the I-wonder-if-this-has-this-ever-beenwashed blankets. The condo was surprisingly quiet, even though it is the first floor of a
multi-family unit. It is not as if the 2nd floor was vacant; I could hear people walking
around, but their footsteps were very quiet. The benefits of an older building, I suppose.
We were able to park directly in front of the condo, on the street, no problem. The
owner, Tom, was very accessible, even though he lives out of town. There was a small
problem with a leaky faucet, but Tom was right on it and had it fixed the very next day!
One year later we returned to Portland. We loved Tom's place the first time around so I reached out to him and the place was just as good as we remembered. The location can't be beat. Great coffee, great food, and great places to explore nearby. It's such a convenient location to access all that Portland has to offer. If we're back next year, you can be sure we'll be staying here again!
Everything was as Tom said it would be, great spot in a super location right off Hawthorne. It's a "classic" Portland place, things creak and the bath is a clawfoot tub - so don't go expecting a "modern" apartment; but if you like classic places (I do) it's very nice and great if you're looking for a quiet spot, plenty of space, all the amenities, etc.
Nice place, well kept, a bit spartan in decoration but a good floor layout.
The location was good - quick drive to great places all around. If you get the chance, eat at Lardo as they have amazing sandwiches. Downtown & the Pearl district were very close as well.
If you're a light sleeper or you have kids, this place might not be great however. It's an older property and footsteps on the floor above are quite noisy. Nobody's fault, just an older property and something to be aware of. The oddness of people traipsing noisily about at around 10pm every night wasn't so hot though.
All in though, definitely a nice place to stay!
This Hawthorne house was great for us after two days of driving. The location is fantastic with plenty of shops and restaurants within walking distance. Parking was easy to find within a block of the house, usually right out front. Plenty of great coffee shops within a short drive or walk.
The house itself was clean and well enough equipped for everything we needed except for a fifth chair around the dining table. We had to use the Ikea step stool which is in the photos as a bedside table. The house is creaky but that is part of it's charm.
Our one complaint was one which we had read on previous reviews. On the first night of the four we stayed there (and really only on the first night), the upstairs renters came home at 3:30am and proceeded to walk heavily around their suite for about 45mins. With their shoes on the creaky floors, it was very loud and woke our whole family. That said, it only happened on the Saturday night and the rest of the nights were peaceful.
All in all, it was a great place to stay and I would recommend it.
We had a great five-day stay at the Historic Hawthorne apartment. It is an older building with lots of charm and spacious rooms. While I read the reviews citing noise from upstairs tenants and older bathroom fixtures, I wasn't concerned about issues that are clearly normal for a building of its age. We heard the people upstairs but weren't disturbed by it. We live in a historic home and enjoyed the large rooms, wood floors, high ceilings, and pocket doors. My family of five felt very comfortable and enjoyed the neighborhood. We cooked in the kitchen, which was reasonably stocked and took public transportation, which was easily accessible to the Pearl District and Nob Hill for other dinners. We also took the bus to Belmont Station and had delicious craft beers. There are numerous places to eat within walking distance and the owner was responsive before our stay and during our stay when we had simple questions. The photos were accurate and the property was very clear. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to friends.
We spent the weekend in Portland for the Blazers home opener. Setting things up with Thomas was very easy and the trip and stay in his beautiful place went without a hitch. There was more than enough room for 4 people to sleep and not be in each others way. There are lots of local bars, restaurants and food trucks just a block away on Hawthorne. It's a pleasant walk up to Burnside; we even walked to the Rose Garden the night of the game. Also, Holocene is very close so you can go dancing at the end of the night! Highly recommended.
