We chose Silver Beach because it is where my grandparents used to vacation in the early part of the 1900s. As a child my parents also brought me to Silver Beach Amusement Park and I cherish the fond memories I have of this area.
The very unique benefit is that we relax. In the warm months, we sit on the deck and watch the waves, the weather and the people! In the cold months, we sit and relax and just watch the beautiful cinema of sky and water that is ever changing.
Have been coming to this area for 30 years. Wanted a different experience. This cottage was just what we needed for a girl's weekend. Right on the beach - the view was fantastic!! Cottage was clean, well equipped, very comfortable. Got up in the morning, had coffee overlooking the beach. Spent time on the spacious deck, overlooking the beach, watched the sunset (which is always beautiful) overlooking the beach. And spent time just sitting on the beach - which is right across the street. St. Joseph is a quaint little town. Will be back to do this again!!
Contrary to the expectations of the one harsh reviewer, my family of five (consisting of a 12 yr old, a 14 yr old, my elderly mother, my husband, and myself) had a wonderful and fulfilling vacation at this location. It was exactly as it was presented in the pictures and description, and was reasonable for the price that was asked. It is a beach cottage, not a luxury spa. All of the facilities were in working order, clean, and comfortable. The expansive windows facing directly towards the shore was the highlight of our stay. My mother was able to enjoy the views from inside or on the deck. The only thing separating the cottage from the beach was a single neighborhood street. We spent most days on the beach directly in front of the house, then went back for lunch, restrooms, a nap, then hit the beach again. It was great! There were sidewalks making it easy to stroll the neighborhood. The nearby town was charming and consisted of several shops, a few restaurants, and drug store. Within half a block was a beach store, conveniently located to buy beach apparel or chairs or sundries. Also within walking distance, was a water sprinkler park for kids to romp in. The owners were charming and kind. We look forward to returning in the near future!
We stayed here June 2010, the 2 stars are for the view. The bedrooms are very small. Only 1 of the bedrooms has a closet. The 3rd bedroom is a joke, if you really dislike your mother-in-law then give her the 3rd bedroom, which is actually an old porch/ laundry room with no air condtioning. If it rains mom in law will be sleeping in a damp bed. We went the last 3 days without hot water, had to go to my moms and the tennis club to take our showers. We also had the toilets and drains back up in to the house after it rained. The owners are very nice and did send roto rooter out to fix the drains. We called about the lack of hot water and they said we needed to go into the basement to repair the problem. Tried to do that but the spider webs were enormous and the dirt floor was creepy no one wanted to walk through them, decided we would rather live without hot water. The furniture is old and worn. The beds are uncomfortable. The owners had cleaned the day we moved in, I cleaned for 3 more days after arriving and it still was not very clean. We told the kids to pretend you are camping and over look the dirt. Both back and front door wood steps are not super sturdy and there is not a decent path for elderly parents to safely enter the home. Deck furniture was all falling apart we were afraid to have anyone sit on it. The view is spectacular and easy access to the beach across the street.
What a view!!!! Amazing sunsets right off the deck. Centrally located to everything. If you want the Ritz this is not for you but if you want privacy and a good time check availability. We will definitely go back and bring family next time. If you like to visit wineries, there are at least 10 near St Joseph. The town is in walking distance and a car really wasn't necessary. Thanks for a GREAT week.
