|Minimum Stay||2 nights|
Located on a quiet road with open fields and mountain views, this newly renovated cottage is clean, beautifully built, warm and comfortable. All new kitchen with new appliances and zinc countertop, new bath with hand-tiled tub and shower. All wood walls and floors, fine craftsmanship with rustic touches.
Downstairs bedroom with queen bed and upstairs bunkroom with queen and single will sleep two couples, or small family comfortably. Also perfect for one or two people who want privacy and peace. We do not cater to large groups.
Gas furnace heats the house well, plus electric heat in the bathroom makes showers warm and comfy. A new wood stove in the living room with large glass viewing door is perfect for evening relaxation with a glass of wine.
House is situated on 100 private acres you can roam at will on foot, cross country skis or snowshoes. Trails lead to your own beautiful waterfall behind the house, to a high bank above Minerva stream with private access for canoe or kayak, or through the woods on a nearby NYS DEC trail to ponds with a state leanto if you want to experience Adirondack camping.
Once you arrive, you will be 2 miles from the small hamlet of Olmstedville with its gas station and general store and a delightful local restaurant (Li'l Nonny's) with wonderful home style breakfast and lunch: 8 miles from North Creek with stores, restaurants and bars (we recommend Bar Vino), and a train to
Saratoga Springs. Rafting trips down the Hudson can be arranged in summer months, there's the exciting White Water Derby the first weekend in May each year, and nearby Gore Mountain has great skiing during the winter season with biking and gondola trips in warm weather. You are an hour and a half from the Governor's mansion in Albany; two hours from a lovely French restaurant in Montreal; or four hours from NYC for nearly everything else in the world.
At home in your cozy cottage you may see a deer across the street or an eagle cruising the sky, or hear coyotes howling after dark in late Summer and through Autumn. The night sky shows you the brilliance and beauty of the Milky Way and if you are lucky, the Northern Lights will shine. You are in the middle of a beautiful natural area, yet right on a paved road. We do the snow-shoveling in winter and mow the lawn in the summer.
Natural Stone Bridge and Caves is 10 miles away in Pottersville - great for both kids and adults - you can swim there and see some natural Adirondack caves without special clothing or equipment.
The High Peaks and lots of comfortable climbs are within striking distance in all directions - Crane Mountain in nearby Johnsburg, with great views for a relatively short climb, is my favorite. You can also climb Snider, located behind our caretaker's home, which is walking distance from the house. Just call Duane for instructions at 518 251 2627 - 45 minutes to the top and a nice view.
Contact friends or take care of business with free internet and telephone. Or just kick back and read a good book. Care-taker is down the road a piece if you have a question or need assistance. We opened for business in late 2013 and every guest so far has been pleased - check our five-star reviews. We look forward to your happy stay with us.
We are a family of builders and designers, who have enjoyed paying attention to details while upgrading properties in NYS and Florida over the past 40 years. We have a mountain home nearby that we use mostly in Summer but from time to time in all seasons. This year our youngest daughter was married on the riverbank above Minerva Stream, and the reception was at our house.
George Halloran purchased this cottage in 2001
It is beautiful and comfortable inside, no matter what the weather may be. Outside, you know you are in the Adirondacks where explorers and travelers have enjoyed the beauty and solitude for hundreds of years. Yet you are on a paved road within striking distance of anything that catches your fancy. We bought this 100-acre parcel because it adjoined our land, and because the former owners were family friends for generations. We have visited the waterfall and paddled the stream for 65 years (some of us) and our children and grandchildren are on the same track.
Your own waterfall in the back yard. Private access to Minerva Stream for canoeing and kayaking. Delightful all wood interior finishes with an accent on the Adirondacks. If you are here during harvest time and we have a garden going, you are welcome to pick fresh organic corn or beans, or dig a few potatoes for your dinner.
We spent a week at this cabin during a very cold period in February. The cabin was warm and cozy and very clean. I would recommend this cabin to all. 15 mins to Gore ski area on good roads. The local store is 3 miles from cabin where you can grab a newspaper and more. My family is eager to come back to this wonderful cabin.
Stayed this past weekend for a snowboarding trip to Gore Mountain and the house was incredible. The decode was very rustic and mountanieerish, which was pretty cool. Wood stove was amazing to look at and kept us warm and cozy. For future trips to the area will definitely stay here.
My family has been going to the Adirondacks for years but this was the best place we have found. There were 3 of us (all adults) and my young adult daughter said she had finally found what she'd been looking for. The cottage was rustic and fit with its surroundings yet I would happily transport it to my town and live in it if I could. It was immaculate and warm and cozy yet spacious and very relaxing. I loved the furnishings. You can tell a lot of thought, care and love was put into this cottage. My daughter loved having the upstairs to herself. She could look out the window from her bed and see a beautiful view.
The kitchen is well equipped and we were so happy to see a bottle of wine waiting in the fridge for us. There is a wood burning stove that has a glass front so you can actually see the fire burning. Reminds me of sitting around a campfire but much more comfortable!
I love the area too. You are on a dead end road so it is very quiet and peaceful. As others have said, there is a trail right behind the property so you can take long hikes. The scenery around the cottage is gorgeous. North Creek is only about a 15 minute car ride away and has good restaurants and is a lively place to be in the evening in case you get to feeling isolated out in the woods!
I highly recommend George's cottage and we are planning to go back next summer or fall for a longer stay.
This is a lovely place. It is pretty new and very tastefully decorated with wide plank wood floors, furniture and accessories that perfectly fit in to the cabin without overwhelming it. Both upstairs and downstairs bedrooms (and beds) are comfortable so the cabin is great for 2-4 people. The many screened windows, screened porch and ceiling fans allow for good cross-ventilation. (I think there is also AC but we didn't need it). The kitchen is very well equipped with good appliances. (A dishwasher would be much appreciated but this is the woods after all. However, there is a washer/dryer). The bottle of (good) wine left for us in the fridge was a nice touch even though we were staying for only 2 days. George, the owner has a place 1/2 mile down the road. He was very friendly and accommodating. He will lend kayaks and a canoe which were great on Minerva Lake 2 miles away. There is a neat hiking trail behind the house which goes past a beautiful waterfall, a really pleasant surprise. While we stayed for only 2 nights, I will definitely consider a longer stay. There's a wood burning stove so maybe skiing at Gore Mt?
Beautifully designed, decorated, and well maintained cabin in the Adirondacks. This newly renovated cottage has all the amenities you'll need, a fully equipped kitchen, comfortable bedding, and plenty of room for our family of four.
Our two teenagers loved the spacious upstairs bedroom overlooking the pond, and of course, the wifi was appreciated! Waking to the sound of the nearby stream and chirping birds make this camp a wonderful place to relax and enjoy!
Plenty of activities; mountain biking, hiking, whitewater rafting, canoeing. Swim at nearby Minerva Lake, playground, beach volleyball, basketball and food stand.
Day trip to tour the Great Sagamore Camp, and the Adirondack museum was thoroughly enjoyable!
This secluded location is perfect for nature enthusiasts and for a classic Adirondack experience!
My girlfriend and I were really thankful to spend and extended holiday Memorial Day weekend at this rustic cabin. We thought the place was so cozy and charming, it could easily be featured in a magazine.
First off, the place is immaculate and practically everything is brand new. The rustic decor really enhances the get-away experience. We enjoyed eating breakfast in the screened-in porch and cooking meals in the well stocked kitchen.
The waterfalls on the property was a short 5 minute stroll through the woods; I also enjoyed falling asleep while listening to the waterfalls from the downstairs bedroom.
Each day we did a different acitivty, (Ausibale Chasm, hiked Cascade Mountain in the High Peaks, White-Water rafting on the Hudson River) and it was nice to come home to the cabin and eat dinner, and get a fire going in the wood-burning stove and watch a DVD on my laptop.
We were perfectly fine that the place didn't have a TV as we are not TV people, but it was a nice convenience to have free internet which we did use.
The owner George was very friendly, fair and accomodating. He wanted to make sure we were comfortable and was available if any issues occurred. Duane the caretaker was also very helpful and friendly. Both were very knowledgeable about the area.
I forgot a few articles of clothing and the owner called me up to say he would mail it back. I told him to take the postage funds out of my security deposit, but he was so gracious he refunded the full amount. I would definately recommend this place and look forward to renting again in the ski-season.
