Beautiful 3 bedroom, 2 bath waterfront saltbox on a small, quiet lake in upstate NY (not on Lake George), 3 mi. from the VT border, 35 miles from Lake George village, with a screened in porch. Open floor plan, private home, available year round. Enjoy a good book on our deck while the setting sun reflects onto the water. In the fall, the foliage mirrors onto the lake; in the winter, the woodstove keeps you cozy and warms you up when you come in from skating or x/c skiing. Our leather sectional is a great place to watch a movie at the end of your day, or read a book as your kids work on a puzzle on our large coffee table. Enjoy the private lake on our canoe, kayak, paddle boat, or our newest addition, a stand-up paddleboard. It's a great family vacation, that can include your well mannered family dog, if you just can't bear to leave him behind. Our master bedroom with a plush, king-size bed and main bath area are downstairs, with two additional bedrooms and another bath upstairs, making it easy to share with another couple or family, while still having privacy. You can chill out and enjoy the peaceful setting, or when you're re-energized and ready to explore, Lake George Village is just over a half hour away, with large Riverboats to tour the lake, restaurants and shopping. Manchester, VT is a Designer Outlet mecca, or take a day trip to charming VT towns like Middlebury, Ludlow, Brattleboro, or everyone's favorite, Burlington. There's great Horseback riding and a seasonal rodeo at Pond Hill Ranch just 20 minutes away, and the home of Green Mountain College (Poultney, VT) has a rail trail for hiking, dog-walking, biking, x/c skiing or snowshoeing, just 10 minutes away. Sorry, we cannot accommodate last minute requests; two week minimum advance notice.

We love our times here at the lake, but can only enjoy it occasionally. We'd love to find people that will be able to come up and enjoy this little slice of paradise, instead of having it sit empty, waiting for our next visit. We are empty nesters, until the kids and grandkids all come back to visit, so we're always on the go. When we're not working at our IT desk jobs, we love biking, boating, x/c skiing, kayaking, and just about anything outdoors. We go every other year to Europe on a bike and boat adventure; that's our favorite way to combine our love of boating and the water, along with biking.
Helen Krieger purchased this house in 2004
We wanted to find a lake that was peaceful and not crowded with everyone on top of each other. Compared to other properties we looked at, this one couldn't be beat.
We love that we can enjoy it year round. My husband is a swimmer, so once the water warms up, he swims from one end to the other every day we're at the lake. In the winter, our grandkids come up and tube down our hillside onto the frozen lake, and we skate, snowshoe and x/c ski. In the fall, the views of the foliage are great, as well as the hiking at Haystack Mountain just 25 minutes away.
My family and I had a wonderful time at the house it was quite cozy and private. My husband and son loved fishing in the evening after a full day of swimming . We stayed in 2013 and decided to go Back this summer again.. We cannot wait!!
My wife and I enjoyed our stay thoroughly! The lake house was cozy and very comfortable! The views were amazing! We look forward to visiting again. The attention to details by the Kriegers was very much appreciated.
The Lake House and lake were absolutely amazing. They were exactly what the owners said and showed in their pictures. The house was spotless and the lawn/flowers were beautifully groomed. We went there to relax and spent a lot of time just sitting on the back deck reading and looking at the lake. It was very quiet at night and we actually slept in most mornings. The restaurants they recommended had great food. We spent a day at Lake George but couldn't wait to get back to the house to relax. Can't wait to spend more time there.
I'm a single guy who enjoys peace and quite.
This getaway place "fit the bill" to the "T"
However, it's located close to many enjoyable places to see and visit. The owners put a lot of effort into providing a detailed list of all the things one can do in the area. Their "package" includes a review of local attractions along with drive times and distances to help the vacationer make plans according to their interests, budgets, and time. Big Kudos!
The landscape is pleasing to the eye and the lay of the land is diverse with colors, hills, water, woods, and an awesome deck to visually take it all in.
The grounds as well as the interior are meticulous! The house itself is nicely designed... quaint, cute, cozy, and very comfortable.
I LOVE the wood stove. It's SO efficient and throws off that toasty heat that makes all of the cares and problems of the world melt away into a couch that will send you off into "La La Land" against your will...! ;-)
I highly recommend staying here on many levels. You will NOT be disappointed!!!
My son and I spent a week in this charming lake house. Everything was as promised on the website. The home was clean and very well-stocked with all the little incidentals we didn't want to have to pack for our flight to New York. We were back and forth between Saratoga Springs and Whitehall most days visiting my other son, so we didn't spend much time enjoying the lovely backyard and lake. We had breakfast on the screened-in porch, and loved watching the hummingbirds, chipmunks and squirrels. We "accidentally" found an arts festival in Glens Falls and loved going to that. We spent a day in Cooperstown at the Baseball Hall of Fame, and went to Boston for a Red Sox game. It was always good to come back to the lake for a good night's sleep.
The owner was always very helpful and promptly answered all my questions. I would definitely recommend this property to family or friends.
We stayed for a week in Mid-September after considering renting on Lake George. We're glad we chose this comfortable, quiet place on little Melvin Pond. The property is lovely and the house is just as homey as can be, with nice indoor-time amenities like a full kitchen, big TV and high-speed internet. You'll never grow tired of the view of the lake, with a wooded mountainside as the background. The owners graciously allow pets (for a very reasonable fee), and our geriatric Labrador liked that there is just a single step getting in and out of the back door of the screened porch. The hub-bub of big Lake George is just 45 minutes away if you want a night out or two, but we relished the solitude of Melvin Pond most evenings, with a million stars overhead not a peep to be heard anywhere. The weather was perfect--no need for heat or AC. My girlfriend is a semi-obsessed fisherwoman, and we caught more than 75 bass between us during the week, mostly just casting from shore. (They like worms, but it's more fun to catch them on Rapalas and the like.) One evening, we peddled the paddleboat to the far shore and caught 20 bass in a couple of hours. There were lots of keeper-sized fish among them, but we released them all. Sightseers will enjoy historic Whitehall, at the bottom tip of Lake Ticonderago, which struck me as a regal but sad little Barge Canal ghost town. The Skene mansion above the canal lock is amazing. Vermont is a just a few miles away; you can be in Rutland in not much more than 30 minutes. Granville is not exactly a foodie destination, but there's a very good grocery store there, and we found a few nice restaurants in Lake George and in Vermont, including the Blue Cat Bistro in Castleton (where we watched a young man get down on bended knee and propose to his sweetie; she said yes). I've rented on VRBO many times in more than a few places. This was a 5-star rental in every sense.
