Overview

Bordeaux Mountain Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

Perched high above the Carolina Valley in the heart of the Bordeaux forest is a charming and romantic cottage overlooking the turquoise Caribbean waters of the Sir Francis Drake channel.

Created for your enjoyment, your vacation for two,

Sea Cottage is a private paradise.

Just a 10 minute drive to the world famous North Shore beaches and less than 15 minutes from the shops and restaurants of beautiful Coral Bay or the ferry dock at Cruz Bay, the cottage can be reached by way of the paved and level Bordeaux Mt. Road which winds through the lush and fragrant bay rum forest.

For those who wish to enjoy St. John on foot, the Bordeaux Mt. trailhead in the Virgin Island National Park is only a short hike away leading to beautiful Lameshur Bay on the south side of the island as well as other trails in the park.

Sea Cottage is a three year old, stand alone, studio – an open floor plan with airy vaulted ceilings, a spacious wrap around covered deck, a queen bed, a garden shower, a fully equipped kitchen, DVD player and state of the art sound dock. Decorated with beautiful pieces made by local artists, this private getaway is accessed by means of a comfortable descent through a tropical garden. It is amply cooled by ceiling fans and tradewind breezes so there is never any need for air conditioning.

Whether lounging in the hammock or admiring a moonrise or sunrise over the British Virgin Islands, you will be surrounded by the sounds of the forest and mesmerized by an unforgettable view.

See you at the ferry dock!

About Monika Aranha

From Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to St. John, we have always loved being near the ocean and outdoors. Over a period of 13 years we were lured here by the turquoise waters of the Caribbean, the trade wind breezes and the Virgin Islands National Park , mountains and valleys. Finally we decided we wanted to live on this little island and share it with family, friends and like minded souls. Bordeaux Mt., the highest point of the island with its incomparable views of the British Virgin Islands and the Sir Francis Drake Channel, located right in the center of the island, seemed like the perfect place. After three years on the island we began to build our dream cottage. Every step was a reason for celebration and every detail a delicious exercise in creativity. We wanted to make a little private paradise for two. Many of the pieces decorating the house are crafted by local artists and make the cottage a special place.

Monika Aranha purchased this cottage in 2011

Why Monika Aranha chose Bordeaux Mountain

Easily accessed by a mostly paved and relatively flat road that winds through the rain forest, Bordeaux offers privacy, peace and spectacular moon rises or sunrises. At night the singing forest and gentle breezes make it a one of a kind retreat. From it you can hike the extensive trail network of the Park all the way down to some of it's most beautiful beaches. Both Cruz Bay and Coral Bay with its locally owned and operated shops and restaurants are only 10 to 15 minutes away by car. There are many perfect days that start and end at Sea Cottage. First a quiet yoga practice at sunrise on the covered porch. For a good workout nothing better than an early morning hike down Bordeaux Mt. Trail to the white sandy Little Lameshur Beach, followed by a swim and snorkel around Europa Point. For the more water activity minded, Cinnamon Beach with it's many water sport rental options is just a short 10 minute drive away. And those who just wish to relax and soak in the sun can follow the North Shore road to any one of its spectacular beaches.

What makes this cottage unique

Vacation for us is about sharing in each other's company and enjoying nature. It is time to distance ourselves from the bustle of the world - to have time to listen to music, watch a movie together or have a moonlit dinner on the porch without the distractions of modern communication. During the day there is so much to do just a short distance away whether on foot or by car. Sea Cottage is the ideal place to wake up in and to end the day - the fragrance of the bay rum trees after a summer sprinkle; the singing of the birds during daytime and the sounds of the forest at night; swinging in the hammock while watching the moon rise over Virgin Gorda. It's a place to fall in love all over again.

Sea Cottage with the Best Views

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent nine nights in the Sea Cottage for our honeymoon. The place is perfect for this. The house is situated in a beautiful location with wonderful views of Coral Bay and Hurricane Hole below you on St. John and the British Virgin Islands of Tortola and even Virgin Gorda on a clear day. The house is kept up very well with many small luxuries like Bluetooth player, travel books, hummingbird feeder, and it is filled local art work. We would sit on the porch each morning in the sun enjoying the Pearly-Eyed Thrashers, Bananaquits and Hummingbirds as our entertainment. Monika and Jorge are very gracious hosts and offered to meet us at the ferry. We had our own Jeep and met Jorge at the turn off to Bordeaux Mountain the first day. He personally showed us the house and amenities. The house is very private and we felt like we were alone the whole time. The plants and animals were wonderful. A shower with the birds singing in the tree next to you is one of my favorite memories. St. John is a lovely place with many beautiful beaches and spots to snorkel. Monika and Jorge shared their experience and recommended great places to go and things to do. I highly recommend this property.

Sea Cottage for 2

  • 5 of 5

We could not have had a nicer first visit to St. John, and so much of that is thanks to Monika and Jorge for creating the perfect little spot for a couple to relax and soak in the peace and beauty of Bordeaux Mountain. So many personalized and welcoming touches from their music and the artwork of local artists (including Monika), to meeting us at the ferry and ensuring we got groceries before guiding us to Sea Cottage. The house is beautifully kept - we felt like we were in a luxury tree house with a gorgeous view, a lovely breeze, a delightful refreshing outdoor shower, and entertaining hummingbirds and "sugarbirds". We feel very fortunate to have found Sea Cottage and met Monika and Jorge, who show you every respect, especially for your privacy. When we return to St. John we'll definitely go back to Sea Cottage!

A gem

  • 5 of 5

Far from the hustle of Cruz Bay and up some winding mountain roads you will find Sea Cottage, tucked among the flora and fauna of Bordeaux Mountain. Mornings come with brilliant sunshine and clear, distant ocean views appreciated from the wrap-around porch. Enjoy the sugar birds, hermit crabs, etc. (very few insects) along with a crowing rooster from somewhere among the trees! This one room cottage is creatively designed and beautifully maintained making our vacation stay there relaxing and easy. We loved being closer to Coral Bay and took advantage of exploring this side of the island during our visit. Monika and Jorge provide just the right amount of support and were available when needed, but respectful of our privacy. Perfect hosts. I highly recommend this property.

Amazing Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I recently stayed at Sea Cottage for our honeymoon. We had never been to St. John before but after spending a week exploring the island, we both agree that we could not have chosen a better spot than Sea Cottage. Jorge was a perfect host - he met us at the dock and gave us all the information we needed for a great stay, led us back to the cottage, and then gave us our privacy for the rest of the week. He was no more than a text message away though, if needed, and was extremely quick to respond to any questions or requests. The cottage itself is simply perfect, so comfortable, peaceful and beautiful - we almost had to force ourselves to leave to go and explore the island! The cottage is the ideal place to relax - we spent a good amount of time lounging there, reading books, enjoying the breeze, napping, watching the birds, sunrises and sunsets. We watched movies at night, cooked dinners and breakfasts, listened to the wonderful iPod playlists provided by Jorge and Monika. The location is also quite ideal for getting to any part of the island - you are 10-15 minutes away from several beaches by car, and the driving is half the fun. Twisty roads, goats, donkeys and lots of other interesting sights. We drove around all week and still spent less than $40 on gas. Great restaurants and shops are easily accessible on both sides of the island. And coming back to Sea Cottage at the end of the day feels like coming home. A warm secluded outdoor shower to wash away the salt and sand from the day, then relaxing out on the deck with a glass of wine. Sheer perfection. Thank you to Jorge and Monika for sharing your amazing Sea Cottage with us. If you are considering staying here - just do it! You will not regret it!

Tranquility

  • 5 of 5

This was our home for the 1st 6 nights of our recent anniversary trip. A newer 1 room cottage up on Bordeaux Mountain. I was going for high-up, “one particular harbor” views and quiet for this trip, but still close to the north shore and Coral Bay. Sea Cottage did not disappoint. 1 room house with bed, living room and kitchen in the same main area with a nice size bathroom with outside shower. Nice covered decks with hammock, small table and a few chairs. No AC here which was a concern for me but the temp was great day and night with nice breezes, in fact we had to close 1 of the sliders at night and use a blanket. I was also concerned about bugs way up there but only 1 night did we have mosquitos and it wasn’t anything a little deet and burn coils didn’t fix. We did have some critters such as your normal lizards, hermit crabs scurring about, small tree frogs (1 of which joined me in the shower one evening), and a goat on the stairs 1 morning. The sounds of the jungle at night lulled us to sleep. Surprisingly no creatures or bugs were in the house. Monika and Jorge own this cottage which is above their villa, couldn’t see or hear them, the jungle is that thick. It’s evident they put their heart and soul into the place. A nice touch was the iPod she provided full of good music, we especially enjoyed their Brazilian play lists. She makes peace flags and sells them out of the Brazilian store in Cocoloba plaza, a string of small, colorful flags that my wife loved. She was all out but promised to make some and mail to us. It arrived 3 days after we got home, nice touch. The road was paved all but the last 75 yards, it was bumpy but didn’t bother us, we’ve had worse. 10 minutes to Maho or Coral Bay, 15 minutes to Salt Pond or Tourist Trap, maybe 20 minutes to Cruz Bay. We loved the location and plan to stay in this area or Mamey/Ajax peak next trip. Perfect for 2 people who want a “wow” view, don’t need a lot of space, and want peaceful quiet. Thank you very much Monika for you wonderful hospitality!

Spectacular Cottage & View

  • 5 of 5

Celebrating our Anniversary at the Sea Cottage was one of our best vacations ever!

As soon as you step into the Sea Cottage you can feel the tranquil and peaceful surroundings take you in and put your mind and body automatically into island time. The craftsmanship, attention to detail and decorating with local artist pieces shows the care and thought in building the Cottage. It is centrally located which makes it very convenient to get to any part of the Island.

Monica and Jorge were the perfect hosts; from meeting you on the island, making you feel welcome in their home and answering any questions you may have to what St. John has to offer.

Eating outside on the patio and taking in the relaxing views was such a great way to enjoy your meals. The views are something that you see in tourist guides of the Island. It was fun feeding the Sugar Birds and watching them while we sat outside. Staying at this Cottage was such a great way to reconnect and relax with your significant other.

Monica & Jorge, Thank you again for your generous hospitality and sharing your piece of paradise with us. We very much look forward to returning to the Sea Cottage and seeing you again soon! Roxanne & John
