Seahorse Cottage 2 - "Here Comes the Sun"

Seahorse Cottage 2 is the largest of our free standing cottages. This is a rustic, quaint two bedroom beach cottage right on the powdery white sand of the Gulf and named after the Beetles popular oldie "Here Comes the Sun". The Framed lyrics and sunny touches of this theme decorate this nostalgic getaway. There is a separate family room equipped with a full size sleeper sofa and a new flat screen TV, a master bedroom with a queen bed, a small 2nd bedroom with a queen bed, a full kitchen with a separate dining area which seats 4. All new linens and bedding dress both beds, providing a fresh feel and look to the yesteryear backdrop.

The Seahorse Cottages are some of the true "treasures" of Treasure Island. Built in 1938, these quaint cottages were amongst the first structures on the beaches of Treasure Island. A tribute to "Olde Florida" ~ reminiscent of bygone days ~ treasures nestled right in the sugary white sand of the Gulf of Mexico, awaiting your discovery. History and nostalgia unite in these quintessential beach cottages which literally sit right on the powder fine sand. We invite you to stay at Seahorse Cottages and enjoy a truly relaxing, laidback vacation right on the beach. Ranked #2 for Specialty Lodging in Treasure Island by tripadvisor.com, the Seahorse Cottages property is made up of 4 free-standing cottages as well as 5 apartments. Our accommodations include an efficiency (Cottage #5), one bedrooms (Cottage #4, Apartments #1, #6, #7 & #8) and two bedrooms (Cottages #2 & #3 and Apartment #9). The rustic wood interiors display knotty pine walls & ceilings and provide an inviting, cozy beach retreat. All units feature casual cottage furnishings, air conditioning, cable, free Wi-Fi, 32" flat screen TV, full kitchen with basic cooking supplies, coffee maker, refrigerator, microwave oven, towels and linens.

Two beachfront pavilions provide a little shade for a break from the rays or an ideal picnic spot. For your comfort and convenience, there are picnic tables, chairs, lounges, fire pit and grills for "those lazy crazy hazy days of summer", not to mention all the other seasons of the year. This nostalgic getaway is sure to lull you back in time. In fact, some patrons have been vacationing here since they were kids and now bring their own families.

Proclaiming "Come on let's twist again like we did last summer!", swing into Cottage 1 ~ "Let's Twist Again". If "it seems like years since it's been clear", reserve your spot at Cottage 2 ~ "Here Comes the Sun".Waste no time tweedle-lee-deeing in bookin' your vacation, "go rockin' robin 'cause we're really gonna rock tonight" at Cottage 3 ~ "Rockin' Robin". For those hunks of burning love looking for an intimate romantic getaway, cozy up in Cottage 4 ~ "Burning Love". "Summertime and the livin' is easy. Fish are jumpin'..." so what could be better for the carefree fisherman than Cottage 5 ~ "Summertime". Envision yourself lounging in a chaise watching the sun melt into the Gulf... "Summer breeze makes me feel fine...blowin' though the jasmine in my mind" at Cottage 6 ~ "Summer Breeze". Cottage 7 ~ "Under the Boardwalk" will definitely provide a retreat "out of the sun" and a place for "having some fun". Imagine relaxing days basking in that famous Florida sunshine... "It's like a heat wave burning in your heart" at Cottage 8 ~ "Heat Wave". Book now. "Were on safari to stay. Tell the teacher we're surfin'." at Cottage 9 ~ "Surfin' U.S.A.".

Although traveling decades back in time, you are only steps away from the Gulf where you can enjoy sunbathing, beachcombing, horseshoes, bocce ball, corn hole bean bag toss, swimming in the gentle surf and drinking in fabulous sunsets! For a small Recreational Fee, Seahorse Cottages also offer a kayak, paddle board and bikes to participating guests (optional program). The welcoming Seahorse Cottages are Pet Friendly, Family Friendly, Kid Friendly and "Pocketbook" Friendly.

The cottages are conveniently situated with a Publix Supermarket directly across the street. You are within walking distance from multiple restaurants and tiki bars and just a mile away from the world-renown John's Pass Village and Boardwalk with its outstanding restaurants and fabulous shopping. The revamped Treasure Island Beach Trail was completed in the spring of 2013. This almost mile long paved walkway along the east side of the beach is perfect for walking, running, skateboarding, roller-blading and bicycling. The southern-most point of the trail ends right at the Seahorse Cottages! The trail runs from 104th Avenue to 119th Avenue, parallel to the shoreline, providing easy access to the motels, restaurants and bars that make up the heart of Treasure Island's hotel district.

The Seahorse Cottages are located in historic Treasure Island. Note, Treasure Island acquired its name in 1915 thanks to some enterprising property owners who cleverly buried and then "discovered" a couple of wooden chest on the beach. News of the "treasure" quickly spread and people began referring to the area as "Treasure Island". The name stuck, as did the attraction to this remarkable coastal area ~ the real "find".

True treasures, these charming, rustic cottages are some of the few remaining yesteryear bungalows dotting the Gulf coastline. Their central location, accessibility to restaurants & shops, private setting and reasonable rates make them ideal gathering spots for family reunions, couple getaways, intimate beach weddings and office retreats. These priceless accommodations are just 30 minutes from Tampa International Airport, 45 minutes to Busch Gardens Theme Park and 90 minutes from the Orlando Theme Parks (Disney, Universal Studios, Sea World, etc.).

Step into the past. Step onto the beach. Book now and start making your own memories at the memorable Seahorse Cottages.

About Jeff & Gina

Raised in central Florida with fathers working at the Kennedy Space Center, we both have a lifetime of fond memories of beach days, beach escapes, beach getaways, and funfilled family beach vacations. Our love of the ocean spans decades as does our romance. High school sweethearts (married for 28 years and counting) and fellow UF graduates, Jeff and Gina have four children. Jordan attends Orangewood Christian High School; while Josh, Jake and Jared go to FSU. Jeff has owned an Allstate Insurance Agency since 1990, achieving the highest company award of Top in Country. He also did consulting for 4 years with both Allstate Corporate and individual agencies countrywide; streamlining processes, increasing production, incorporating inventive marketing, maximizing potential revenue, and stressing customer service. Soon after having their fourth child (4 in 4 years), Gina “retired” from her actuarial position to assist Jeff and raise their lively bunch. With a recent house full of teenagers, Gina likewise knows a thing or two about particular “customers”. We have built our home on faith, family, and fun; and strive to build this company on the same.

Jeff & Gina purchased this condo in 2004

Rustic and Quaint Seaside Cottage

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I went here to celebrate our 30th weeding anniversary. We wanted something on the beach and this fit the bill.

The "Cottage" looks to have been constructed around 1950. It originally was a house that ended up being divided into separate cottages with their own kitchenette and bathrooms. Everything is very clean, towels were fresh and the bed was comfortable. We really did not cared about the décor as we spent the days out on the beach. The cabin was just a place to sleep.

As previous reviewers stated, Publix was just across the street so we didn't have to lug any food with us we just bought everything we needed there.

Everything in the kitchen was super clean and we mainly used it to make breakfast.

Granted there was construction going on right next door but it was during the day which did not bother us as we were at the beach. At night, even though we were right next to the road, it was quit and peaceful and did not disturbed our sleep..

The only negative aspect would have to be the bathroom door looked liked someone previously had try to kick it in and the coffee pot didn't work right. You had to hold the glass pot up against the filter bowl or you would end up with coffee all over the counter.

We like it so much we are planning on making this a yearly event.

Everyone needs to understand this is a "rustic" cottage with emphasis on rustic. Plus you are not coming here to spend your days in the cottage but out on the beach. The beach a short walk and we spent our days basking in the sun and enjoyed watching all the dolphins swimming close to land. There are plenty of places to eat and you have a wide variety to chose from. We mainly ate at Johns Pass Village and Boardwalk. We dinned at Bubba Gumps and the Friendly Fisherman. But Like I said, there are plenty of other places to dine if you so choose.

Rustic

  • 4 of 5

We were very happy with our 2 week stay in Seahorse Cottage #1. It was cozy and rustic as had been described on the website. But it as all we needed with 2 adults and 2 dogs. The only bedroom was big enough for a queen sized bed and a dresser for our clothes. There was also a closet in the bedroom for hanging. The living area had a very comfortable couch and a small dining table with 3 chairs along with a small but full kitchen area. Our only complaints were that the water pressure and temp in the shower were really bad and also the TV should have been mounted on a wall since it was had to see if someone sat at the end of the couch. The outdoor area was right on the beach and had everything we needed to enjoy our outdoor life. The dogs had a wonderful time digging in the sand and just laying in the sun. We will definitely look into staying again until we can retire and buy our own piece of heaven down there.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your valuable feedback regarding our Seahorse Cottage 1. We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay and were able to vacation with your 2 dogs. We will most definitely investigate the water pressure and temperature in the shower and also consider your thoughts on the TV. We truly hope you will consider us in your future travel plans. A little outdated but a great stay!

  • 4 of 5

The cottages have a rustic and old feel to them. The location cannot be beaten! They had plenty of toys and everything you would need for the beach. I rented all the units for the weekend to celebrate our ten year anniversary. The only downside to the weekend was the main custodian taking pictures of a smoker we had going. He was concerned about grease in the sand, which we were going to clean and did. That was extremely annoying. Everything else was GREAT and we would def. stay again as long as we don't have that guy over our shoulder again. :)

Right on the beach

  • 3 of 5

Sea horse cottage 9. The property was clean and spacious. It is a little dated inside. It is on the beach and you can watch the sunset from the patio area. We took advantage of the bikes and the kayak, they worked out great. We also had a fire in the pit and used the barbaque. A spare tank of propane would be nice. Also only one parking space may be a problem for some. Walk to the store is also a big plus. Midweek towel service would be a nice addition.

Great hidden gem

  • 5 of 5

We stayed one of the cottages with our two chocolate labs and there was plenty of room. It is in a great location within walking distance to some great restaurants, bars, and a grocery store. The best part has to be the private seating area on the beach for guests with a fire pit. The beach is HUGE and the sunsets are spectacular. We had so much fun that we didn't want to leave. Property managers were very responsive to any questions we had.
