When I first arrived, I found the key under the mat just like Julia had mentioned. We had 5 people who tried to open the front door and it would not even open. I called Julia with 2 different phone numbers about 3x and left a vmail and never received a response from her. So we decided to see if there was a back door. The back door opened without the key which led us to the garage. Inside the garage there was another door that was locked. The key actually worked for that door. Who would have known that it was for the inside door. We would have been locked out if we didn't try alternatives and would have had to drive back to NY. So we got in the house and it seemed really nice. Since we arrived late at night, we wanted to order something to eat. Julia had mentioned that she had a lot of menus in the house. I only found one. There was no hot water in the shower in the master bedroom and so 9 of us had to use 1 shower. The shower in the hallway had hot water but water coming out was very weak. There was inadequate amount of blankets, pillows as well as pots and pans in the kitchen. One of the red pots looked all scratched up. That should be replaced. The stove flame was weak and it took a long time to cook something. There was barely any paper towels and toilet paper. We had to drive out to Wal-mart and buy it ourselves. Also it was cold on several occasions and we couldn't do anything since the thermostat is locked. It snowed on Saturday and I wished the owner provided some salt knowing that it was going to be snow. I checked a few places and it was sold out so one of our cars was stuck and we had to shovel many times. One of the banisters was missing and it was dangerous since we had a dog with us. He could have fell through. It is basically an undermanaged house with a lot of potential. What I do like about the house is that it is spacious and only half hr away from Mount Airy Casino and Camelback.
Owner's Response: The renters called me at 11 o'clock at night. Usually I stay up as late as possible just in case there are any issues but to a reasonable time frame. We leave the key under a front door's mat and since it is a smart key, it will open any door to the house. The statement about the key opening an inside door is false as this key will in fact open any door in the house. The renters did know that since they used the same key when opening or locking the front door. Next day I've reached out to the renters and have not received any response. I've been calling, texting and leaving voice mails every day, however, never got any response back. The rest of complains could have been easily addressed if renters only brought it to our attention. Being in a new house certainly poses a few challenges: the master bathroom shower works absolutely fine: the knob needs to be lowered all the way for hot water to come on, temperature in the house is easily adjustable to the needed levels, menus are located in the kitchen drawer next to the stove, plenty pots and pans in the kitchen. As an owner, I wish I knew about renter's challenges so I can address them to renters' satisfaction.
