With three bedrooms, one and a half bathrooms (shower only), the flat sleeps 6-8 (using a sofa bed). This newly and completely restored, air conditioned apartment is located just inside the historic walls of Lucca, near the Porta St. Anna entrance to the city. It is on the quiet Via del Toro near the Palazzo Mansi national museum. It is also conveniently located for Via San Paolino, one of two main streets in Lucca where one can find wonderful restaurants, cinemas, food stores and shopping. This vacation apartment inside the medieval walls of Lucca provides a perfect base and is the ideal apartment rental for small groups or families traveling with children. Carlino Michele is on the mezzanine level, so it is only 14 steps up from street level. TV, cable, WiFi, VOIP phone, microwave, dishwasher, washer and dryer -- all the comforts of your 'home away from home'!
See what are guests have said:: 'We had a wonderful time on our trip to Lucca, and LOVED staying at Carlino Michele. It was definitely a home away from home. The apartment was the perfect size for our group of 4 adults and 2 children. We loved riding the bikes provided for us around Lucca. Our vacation was truly magical. We'd go back in a second. We just returned from 3 weeks in Italy with our 3 children (ages 7, 9 and 10). A definite highlight of the trip was our stay in Lucca, especially the comfort and convenience of Carlino Michele. In addition to being spacious and immaculate, Charles has outfitted the apartment with comfort and luxuries not always found in Europe, like a gigantic
king-sized bed and a dryer! Charles was a pleasure to deal with, and we felt relaxed and
recharged by the time we left Lucca. I highly recommend Lucca and Carlino Michele. Thank you, Charles! Lisa , Pleasanton, Ca 07/12/10
More Happy Guests: Our most current visit to Lucca is not our first; nor is our stay at one of Charles Duggan's apartments on via del Toro. Returning to Lucca is like going back to the old house in the 'old neighborhood.' The Carlino Michele apartment feels like home. It has absolutely everything we are used to and need to feel at ease following our daily excursions within the walls as well as our day trips to the surrounding countryside. As Charles' on-site representative, Andrea was able to assist us with any special requests, both prior to our arrival and after. He always has a smile on his face. The whole experience, from initiating the rental process to completing the transaction was, as usual, very easy and without any problems. Charles was also very accommodating with helping us when we learned we would be arriving a day earlier than originally planned. I know we will be returning to Lucca. My first priority will be to contact Charles and book one of the apartments on via del Toro. Dan and Lynne

Lucca is slightly lost in time. It is a perfectly preserved jewel of times gone by, yet it has all the modern conveniences. It boasts an opera company (Lucca is the birthplace of Puccini), a theatre, a soccer team, and many museums. Beyond all that Lucca has to offer, it is the perfect base to explore Tuscany and the Italian Riviera.
The owner Charles was fabulous to deal with. Quick to respond and all went very smoothly for our stay. The apartment was very comfortable and warm and it was lovely to have the kitchen stocked with the basics. Charles provides some some great information for your stay and all of our meals out were via his recommendations and all were fabulous. Thank you Charles.
We were extremely pleased with our apartment, Carlino Michele as we have been renting apartments in Lucca for many years from Charles, the owner. We have previously stayed in the Carlino Michele unit, and were more then happy to return. Both Charles and his on-site rep, Andrea, have been helpful, gracious, and accommodating at a consistently high level over the years. As for Lucca, the town, the food, and most of all the people, we love it and will return.
First time renting an apartment for an extended stay, we must commend HomeAway. Securing the apartment was easy as was the payment plan. Everything in user friendly online format. Our apartment was lovely. Just as described. Location inside the walls, yet close to bus and train. Ideal for daily walks and biking in and around Lucca as well as access to public transport for visits to nearby towns.
The owner and manager of our flat were very helpful. All our needs were attended to.
This was our home for 4 weeks- delightful and stress free. There is much to keep you busy within the walls. The churches, museums, music and special festivities and events can fill your calendar. The restaurants are lovely but shopping for fresh food daily and cooking it up 'at home' was what we enjoyed most.
I was looking for a comfortable home base for a family trip to Italy, and Carlino Michele in Lucca exceeded all expectations! The apartment itself is perfectly located inside the city walls. Extremely comfortable rooms, modern amenities, the place has been completely updated - but you still feel the history and charm of staying inside a centuries old building. We stayed in the apartment for a week, and from the apartment, enjoyed day trips to Pisa (20 minutes), Florence (45 minutes), and just road-tripping through Tuscany (breathtaking!). The best part is, the city itself - Lucca - is full of life, activity, and local treats. But after every amazing day out, we truly felt like 'home' coming back to Carlino Michele.
Few pluses: the owner provides numerous bikes for touring the city - def recommend riding the city walls; in-unit washer/dryer, even had car seats in the laundry room (great for our day trips, and saved money!); and the apartment is w/in 2-5 minute walk to amazing pastry shops, cafes, trattorias, open squares.
Owner is extremely professional, responsive and assists with any pre-planning questions, recommendations, etc. We would definitely stay in Carlino Michele in Lucca again, and highly recommend to others.
We truly enjoyed staying in Lucca. This apartment was very quaint. I was pleasantly surprised by the size. We were very comfortable. Great pillows. Plenty to do in lucca and very easy to travel to other cities. Great for a base city.
We spent 10 fantastic days in Italy provided by Lucca and the residence of Carlino Michele. The apartment was very accommodating for our group, even when we had 7 people, and had everything we needed for our vacation. Staying at Carlino Michele made easy to get anywhere in Lucca quickly and staying in Lucca made it easy to get to other places in Italy such as Florence, Rome, Pisa, and Cinque Terra. Access to the train, bus, rental cars, taxi and shuttle services are all within walking distance. Lucca is a fantastic town and Carlino Michele is a great apartment to stay in.
