Perfect Weekend Getaway

My friends and I stayed at this house for a mini getaway last weekend. The house and the land is beautiful, the pictures don't quite do it justice. Very clean and updated, and the house came with everything we needed, including an abundance of blankets/towels and even wood for the fireplace. There was more than enough room for all of us to spend time together, but also privacy when needed because of the nice setup of the house. One master bedroom/bath and another bedroom with pullout couch on main floor. Plus another master and a bunk room on lower level, each with their own baths. Fully equipped big kitchen, cute breakfast nook, main dining room, two living rooms, and a gorgeous patio with a hot tub overlooking the land.There was also a rec room with ping pong and air hockey that we had a lot of fun in. Even though it was winter, we enjoyed going for a long walk across the farm and down to the river, and took in the peacefulness of the area. Our dogs loved running around, and we were very happy to be able to bring them as they are a part of our family. The owner is very nice and accommodating, and was a pleasure to rent from. We even received a welcome basket which was very thoughtful! All in all a great house with absolutely no problems! We will definitely be back again!

We had an absolutely perfect 4 days at the Shenandoah house! The river was a nice walk down the woody hill, where we fished and canoed, thanks to our hosts, who were so kind in offering not only use of their canoes but portage to excellent fishing spots! The photos don't do the house justice - great expanses of fields and woods all around, very private, and the outdoor stone patio was huge and so comfortable, we ate every meal there, built fires in the chimenea, lounged in the hot tub looking up at the stars...Heaven! The house itself was gorgeous, so many inviting rooms for relaxing, lovely bedrooms and nice big bathrooms, and a very well outfitted kitchen. We enjoyed the cute towns nearby but we loved the house so much we hardly left. We can't wait to go back!

three-generation family vacation

Our expectations were high based on the photos and description on the Homeaway site, but the reality exceeded those expectations. The house and grounds were beautiful and well maintained. The views were soul-stirring. There was plenty of room for us to spread out - 5 adults and two little ones. We loved going down to the river to dunk and wade - perfect for the children. Some of the adults tubed and canoed. We all enjoyed the country walks. One of the highlights was visiting the owner's farm and "meeting" the farm animals. Doug French was a welcoming host, generous with his time when we appeared at the farm. He even insisted that we help ourselves to his crop of delicious tomatoes, which we enjoyed throughout the week. We cooked in every night. (The kitchen is well equipped and very comfortable.) We made good use of the ping pong table and the large patio. After a week no one wanted to leave, so we arranged to stay one more day. I hope this glowing review doesn't make it hard for us to book the next time we want to visit!
